Exactly "without key forwards". We are functioing well, and we probably are exectuign our gameplan, but we might be functioning even better if Fagan made a few changes and tried a few of the other guys to see if it gets better. Who knows, maybe the replacement will do great and as a result he will alter the gameplan. The gameplan is obviously to kick goals through our smalls because he knows are forwards aren't that contested style marker.
Surely you’re now just taking the piss? Half the comp would love McStay and Hipwood in their forward line.

I can't agree, Hippy others would want as he is young and has huge potential. But I don't know which ones would like someone who is in their prime, missing regular easy shot on goal and gets minimal goals as is. He works in our forward line as we have adapted our gameplan but most other forward lines put a premium on goals for their key forwards.

Not long before we find out the ins and outs...
I will say Payne will miss, as Bombers have a small forward line, but I think he is as agile and faster then likely ins of Witho and Answerth. Although I am happy to see them in. Answerth played well last year.
Think Skinner and Ballenden would be in for McStay and Archie. So looking forward to a couple of young guys getting a crack. Just my guess, Go Lions

If Skinner is selected, surely that’s over 1000 in between games of senior football? Can someone do the maths? Could be a great story.
I would love to see Witho get a crack this. Would also like to know everyone’s thoughts on Mathieson? He’s flown under the radar but I really rate him. Would love to see him get picked this week to

It's 3 years plus one day. 1097 days.

Corey Lyons might be just ahead of Matho in the order according to Robbo. Poor guy is just far too good for the reserves but can't get a game.

Lots of teams over the years have had gun key forwards and not managed to win enough games to even make finals.

St.Kilda had Lockett and Lowe , Geelong had G Ablett Snr. just off the top of my head.

Of course any player anywhere near that calibre would make us a better team but in the meantime we make the most of the players that we have.

I believe that there will always been a place for a gun leading forward but the game has changed irrevocably to the extent that you can't afford passengers and your players have to perform multiple roles.

I'd love to isolate Cameron or even a Rayner one out from the goalsquare but the modern game won't allow you to keep doing that if they keep kicking goals. Lots of games have been played in one half or other of the ground this year . It's now a tug o'war game where you just keep pressing and pressuring until you wear them down.

If you want a gun leading FF who stays there and consistently kicks goals these days what you need are rule changes.

Don't know if there is any inside word this is based on, but you'd think the club wouldn't let Skinner and Zorks be interviewed if it wasn't pretty likely he was playing.

Beat me to it! Sure sounds like skinner will play! Massive praise from Zorks there! Pumped to see him run out again in lions colours!!

Scoring in general has gone down. Used to be 80points and over would most likely win, now l would say 65ish points and over would win. Most likely due to the loss in game time.

The stat was 60 points a few weeks ago (no team had reached 60 points first and lost this year). If that doesn't still hold, there'd only be one or two exceptions.

Everyone here knows i'm the biggest advocate for Skinner. I can't wait for his selection and for him to prove all the doubters here wrong :)

If you can reference more than one doubter here, I'd be impressed.

Plus, and not to be overly dismissive, but your join date is about 3 weeks ago. I'm not sure that everyone would know that much about you.

A quote from a user a couple of days ago
"Skinner seems to be massively overrated by many on this board all because of a 1 game performance many years ago. From all reports, he has been underwhelming in the scratch matches and isn't doing himself any favours."

The ironic thing is that his post had more likes than mine, where I was arguing in favor of skinner playing. Make that as you will, but he has his doubters here.

Anyway, i'm not trying to create disruption. I just think we should be more sympathic to those who are not getting a chance. We have a squad of really great players who would make the best 22 in a lot of teams and have been unfortunately pushed out. This week, these players will likely get a chance to prove themselves and it's not only good for them, but the club as well. Strong performances could push out the players who are out this week. Skinner is the feel good story of the week as well, and I just hope nothing bad happens to him considering he's been injury prone since his debut.

I haven't been this excited for a team line up in a long time.
What an opportunity for all those blokes on the outside to come in and make a spot theirs. Best way to keep this group developing is to keep them looking over their shoulders.

I hope Skinner has some long overdue luck.

It seems unlikely from recent emergencies, but I'd really like to see Wooler get McStay's position. He's super hard running and provides a great link into the forward like. Fagan set him the challenge of modelling his game on Tom Lynch (Adelaide version) and it would be interesting to see what that brings to the team. Dan's recent work around the ground and up the wings has been a strength we'll miss. And we've got plenty of dudes that love going for the ball in the forward line, especially with Big O and, if we're reading the tea leaves correctly, Skinner. I think that feels more balanced than bringing in Sam and Connor.

Given the likely downsizing of lists, this unfortunate position is going to allow us to see new faces play seniors before some of them are delisted. I think that's really positive.
