Bit of a Ryder2Gray last minute reprieve for England/Southgate last night - behind 0-1 against Slovakia most of the night until a 95th minute equaliser from Bellingham, then Kane put them 2-1 up in the first minute of extra time and that's how it finished. They now play Switzerland, who knocked out Italy the other night.

Georgia, like Afghanistan in the T20s, were out of their depth at the next stage, going down 4-1 to Spain. It's Spain v the hosts Germany in the quarters, so one of the heavyweights will be gone.

The others QF are still to be determined.

Panama through ahead of USA. Your team would have to have a monumental meltdown to miss out, even if you lose to Columbia, being 3 points and 6 goals to the good of Costa Rica.

With the Major League Baseball season in full swing, I wonder if the Yanks even noticed things like Rugbaleeg, cricket and soccer being played there.

The US is a soccer nation, although they barely notice it. The market is big enough, but it still a niche. It's interesting.

It's somewhat like futsal and volleyball in Brazil.

I believe there's no one who seriously predicted 6 Conmebol and 2 Concacaf teams in Quarters, with the two North Americans being CAN and PAN.

Most people would have picked CHI over CAN, MEX over VEN, and USA over PAN.

Im the next 5 to 10 years the MLS will surpass the NHL and MLB re total industry revenue per game played.

They are 75% of the way there now.

With about 500 MLS games, about 1400 NHL games and 2400 MLB games per season, they are may be 25 years for catching the NHL for total revenue per league.

No one in the world is close to the NHL and the NBA is a clear 2nd in North America and 67% bigger per game revenue than NHL and MLB.

A few days late.

What a player Van Basten was. Him, Maldini sr, Costacurta,Baresi, Gullit, Rijkaard, Ancelotti with legendary coach Arrigo Sacchi. That season they Milan won the European cup (Champions League), European cup (European Super Cup) and Intercontinental Cup.

Then a couple years later in 1993-94 under manager Fabio Capello. Milan won Serie A for a third consecutive time with a mere 36 goals scored in 34 games, but conceding only 15, and winning the newly UEFA Champions League after beating Barcelona 4-0 in Athens, Greece.

It was the right play.
If you are on the line you take your chances that they wont kick the penalty shot.

Its a red card - correct?

If s,o they should call it a goal. Not much different to an own goal in a practical sense.

There’s no “penalty goal” in soccer. Union has it, but there’s nothing like a “penalty kick” in rugby. So, a “penalty try” makes sense.

In soccer, it’s PK and red card. I think it’s fair.

There are worse infringements. For instance, if a fan invades the pitch and avoids a goal, it’s not a goal. It’s not even a FK.

Thanks for the “ç”. In Spanish, it’s written with “z”. It happens also in golaço/golazo (“great goal”).

In Portuguese, “z” sounds just like in English. “C” sounds like “s” before ‘e’ and ‘i’; and like “k” before ‘a’, ‘o’, and ‘u’.

Yet, it’s not ‘goal-AK-o’. It’s ‘goal-ASS-o’, despite the “c”.

In such cases, we use the cedilla under the “c” (“ç”). It shows that “c” sounds like “s”, even though it comes before ‘a’, ‘o’, or ‘u’.

“Barça” is with “ç”, because it’s Catalan. In Castilian, it would be “Barza”.
