Many have Belgium as the dark horse of the World Cup. They have had a solid group stage winning all three matches. Now they come up against a highly motivated USA team out to prove a point.

The USA did enough in their group stage to finish second winning only one match out of the three with the others being two draws. They are looking solid enough though.

Belgium go in as warm favourites here and it's just a matter of whether or not the USA can conjure up a surprise victory.

Final prediction: Belgium 2-1 USA

Belgium weren't overly convincing against Algeria and Russia but found a way to victory but were better this morning when they were down a man for a half, without a few key personnel and against a team desperate for a win. With Hazard, Kompany and co. back, I think they will have the class to win although it won't be easy. 2-1 for me.

Quite surprised that the US got through that group based on my viewing of them, thought that they were thoroughly outplayed by Ghana despite winning the game, Portugal game was a fair result and the game against the germans was really a non-event as the germans weren't really playing for a result.

Belgium have been nothing short of awful. Just what sort of system do they even play? It's unrecognisable. They want to keep the ball but couldn't break down a side through short passing if they tried, terrible in the final third. The only time they've ever looked dangerous is on a counter or inspired bits of play from an individual, they escaped the group on the back of just that. They were lucky to leave the Algeria game with 3 points, Algeria were the best performing side from their group. Belgium, Russia, South Korea all dire. Frustrating side to watch given the talent in their squad, it has to be poor management. USA will knock them out if they carry on with the rubbish football they've been playing.

Should be a good game, just a pity it's on at such a shit time (4am in WA). I'll try to get up to watch it but it won't be easy.

The earlier games starting at midnight are much easier to watch for us WA folk.

The only way Soccer would ever get more popular among old fashioned baseball/football followers is if 'team USA' wins the world cup, otherwise they wont care.
