Your mate is correct.

Footy is nowhere near as ingrained over here in WA. ( I moved here 20 years ago).

In my office building there are about 40 people. I can talk footy with about 5 of them, max. And a lot only know about WCE/Freo.

I know plenty of blokes who like to watch the footy, but don't have a team. That would be unheard of in Vic.

I laugh when I hear WA described as a "footy mad state". It's not.
Where are most of your workmates from? Plenty of people from the UK, NZ, SA etc. In fact Perth has more UK born than Sydney or Melbourne despite being much smaller.

Also on the flipside, I moved here to Melbourne years ago and none of the Melburnian friends I know even watch footy or have a team. Or most of the people I meet. Partly the type of people I meet or hang with. Remember meeting someone from Perth here...asked him if he was Eagles or Dockers and he replied: 'I'm a nerd, so neither', with the assumption being nerds aren't into footy. Which is mostly true. Same with the hipster arty arty types.

My sister-in-law is mad Pies supporter and her favourite player was Darcy Moore. He was at NBL game sitting in front of her and my brother near courtside. At the end of a quarter, she said "hello" to him. He said to her "go on, take your selfie and then f*ck off!" She didn't want a selfie and was disgusted. Just said to him "I'm good, thank you!" Her favourite player is now Charlie Curnow.

People in WA do care about football. people love it, particularly out in the country and particularly for the Eagles.

It's just way more of a social engagement in Melbourne. plenty of people who are barely arsed about the sport will still go to a game once a year or so and own a scarf to go along with it; people might be more open to watching a game on Friday night with their boyfriend or something.

It's just a more casual engagement and that's probably due to the ease of attending matches.

For nearly two decades, you could barely get a ticket to an Eagles game. I went to school in a footy-mad town and kids were astonished I'd go to a real, live game at Subiaco. it was really only because I was a Freo supporter and you could always get a ticket sitting with the morons in the death trap three tier stand.

This is an issue then, so many people have been priced out of attending, which typically takes you from an ok casual fan, to a full on footy nuffie. It's why Perth 3 could be seen as important though, because it opens access to a whole lot of locked out people.

From personal dealings with these guys.
Flog - Wayne Carey
Top Bloke - Fev, Caleb Daniel, Jez Cameron, Croad

I saw Sam Draper and Charlie Comben at Touch of Thailand on Burnley Street, Richmond, earlier this year.
It was 10:30pm on a Tuesday night.

I have a feeling they enjoyed their 'massage' ..
they might have had a tough training session that finished in the evening then after dinner went for a rub down??? hahahhaahha

When I met Caleb Daniel I couldn't understand him until I recorded his voice on my iPhone, adjusted the pitch to as deep as it could be and then played it back

I also couldn't see anything but the top of his head, because I'm 6'4 - so hard to say whether or not he was a good bloke

Think he might have been?

Did he have his helmet on?

I bet you do… Do you still work there?

I had one of those massages last time I was in Thailand, and all that I could think of while she sat on top of me massaging was I hope that’s my erection that I can feel.

One of the nicest guys I met was Tony Modra.
You would have thought he was up himself and arrogant, but he was just a really down to earth country guy.
Man, to have been Modra in the 90s. He had the city to himself.
People outside of Adelaide, or who wernt around at that time just do not know how big he was. No other footballer in Australia has been that big in the state he played in.
He thought the same when he went to Freo and decided to call the Raunchy girls in a Wharfies pub "Wh**es" and "S**ts". He was with his teammates who when the music stopped and the lights went on, scuttled away from Modra as the head Raunchy girl told him to pull his head in, or the show would be cancelled, and he'd cop a flogging. As she said it, she pointed to the wharfies and seafarers watching the show, he shut his mouth, the show re-started, and the Freo boys all left fairly quickly.

He had them lining up for him in Adelaide. I could have sworn we would have had a few dozen Modra FSs at Adelaide with a few DNA tests.

Nicest I've met. Luke Power, Michael Voss, Leppa, Shane Crawford, Lenny Hayes, Ron Barassi, Taught Kenelly Shaun Burgoyne.

Dakota Davidson and Bre Koenen are also lovely

Rudest James Hird, Michael Roberts

Most stuck up Mark McViegh although he was young and may have changed.

From other sports.

Most Storm boys are lovely especially Jahrome Hughes, Billy Slater, Antonio Kaufusi and Cam Smith

Most netballers I've dealt with in recent times have been lovely although was at the same bar as sone about 20 years ago that were acting like they owned the joint.

Cricket Brad Hodge was always pleasant. Back in the day sledging Joe Scuderi and Mark Ridgeway at shield games was a laugh as they'd get seriously stirred up.
