Linked to Sydney according to trade news on the AFL website.

Really hope he stays.
After the loyalty that he has already demonstrated and the reward returned for that on Sat the 3rd of Oct.....surely he would be wanting the opportunity to go around again.

I bet the supporters from other teams that loved giving it to him are now spitting chips over the fact that 1) he's a premiership player and 2) he contributed a lot more over the day than they would have thought he would. He was a vital cog in the Hawthorn machinery.

Hannebury or no deal!
Just no deal......end of story.

I would take no notice of what is being bandied about in the media, they are just trying to fabricate stories, scuttlebutt rules at this time of the year. Can't see any reason why Schoey would want to leave or why we would want to get rid of him. As for insinuations that he might be greedy, I would have thought that he has already demonstrated that it's not just about money for him.

He might be the reason why we retire hale and lake. Got to find money to pay him if we are also recruiting players like aish.

Yep and we need to get Howe and Litherland and Spangher in the team more often.

Chip on the tall, Stratton or Spangher on the 2nd tall. Or Stratton and Howe or Litherland on the mid.

Roughy can play Mid and CHB more given we now know Gunston and Schoey play so well together.

Breust and Rioli swapping Mid and small forward.

Bloody hell im already excited about next year !!!!

Given $300k is an average player does he get 2 year 350-380k deal to keep him & a payday after that? I suspect there will be more money out there for him from other clubs. I can't see him getting any longer or more until there are some retirements.

I wouldn't begrudge him if he left for better coin or opportunity. He would know better than anybody else that his spot is never guaranteed in this great side. He has already repayed the faith and loyalty the club has shown him.

That said please not to the ****ing shitstains. I'd rather see him go to the Cats then go to Sydney.

I'm quite confident he will stay.

When Schoenmakers joined the Hawks and played underage at Norwood, he was a swingman who could switch from CHF to CHB, but was always generally regarded as a forward who could pitch in with a defensive role on occasion. Unfortunately, circumstances demanded he had to forge out a career as a defender only, a role which IMHO didn't suit him.

Even last season, he came back from injury and booted 4 goals at CHF, looked terrific, and then Brian Lake was injured, forcing him back into defence. Every time his career appeared to finally get started, he would experience a set back.

The lad always wanted to be a Hawk and was delighted to be drafted by them. It's players like this I feel great for when you see them on the podium receiving their medallion.

As former Laker and Heat coach Pat Riley once said, "Hard work, perseverance and determination doesn't guarantee you anything .... but without it you don't stand a chance".

After the final series he's had (and part of the regular season) I see him lining up week 1 next year. If he stuck around at the end of last year I don't see him leaving unless someone else throws a huge contract his way.

Sh$t this threads changed its tune
Well done Shoey
Unbelievable guts to believe in yourself when no one else did.
Back to where you belong-and that grab!
Respect.
Oi!

Some did!

The issue is too many people only focus on the ball, and not what happens off it

Apparently had good offers in front of him last season (and I suspect we would have been happy for him to go provided we got some decent draft picks in return, was told he'd be fighting for his spot etc) but turned his back on them. If we want him to stay and put a vaguely fair deal to him he'll stay.

My concern is that we'll see him as something we can get real value for if we are pursuing someone else big. Unlike our fringe midfielders who will only get us late second rounders or worse.

Hopefully we don't. He played plenty of games this year even before he really started seeing form later in the year, because for a great side our KPP depth is pretty terrible. And despite being at the club for years he still has big upside. He's a fantastic kick, and has been great at crashing in to packs and bringing the ball to ground for our elite small forwards. And in the GF started clunking a few too.

Its his flexibility which clarko will love. Watch out for more exposure to the ruck in the near future
