Hille and Belly are similar ruckman. We can't go in with both of them. The only option we have if we drop Ryder is to get a pitch hit ruckman and go in with either Hille or Belly.
Since Hooker/NLM have gone down we really don't have another option so he must stay in the side.
He was playing worst two weeks ago so hopefully he can continue to improve.

5 out of 10 for me, no real impact though. Frustrating to watch at present. Needs a week or two in the seconds to rekindle his hunger. Starting to look a bit like one K Bradley when he was in the red n black.

Really improving. Looked better today, room for improvement but definitely not going to get dropped off that.

The hyperbole on here is nuts.

Some of his hit outs were superb. Get him back in the ruck, he cant take gorilla pack marks which is what were expecting him to do up fwd. He's always been a run and jump over the back of the pack mark.

Another game with no real impact or heart. Jimmy must be doing his head over this guy.

lo wut? I think Jimi would be more concerned with about 13 other players tbh.

Interesting that Crameri escapes criticism despite worse than Ryder for some time now.

With Buddy looking at a weeks holiday, I can't see you dropping a player like Ryder when coming up against a team of short people.

I for one am hoping for about 40ml of rain next Friday night.

Both our KPFs were good today. Ryder is really getting the hang of his forward role and you can see him working in with Hurley. Our whole forward line structured up well. We had 30 scoring shots, not including the 2 or 3 shots for goal that were smothered. With a 60% accuracy rate that becomes 18 goals.

Yes we capitulated in the end, but I'm sure that has something to do with running out of legs due to injuries, but really we should have smashed them today.

I liked our forward line today, Paddy included. The only change I'd make is bringing in Gumby and Davey for Monfries and Crameri. Some real height for a marking player and some real speed for a smaller player. I wouldn't do it next week though. Obviously Gumby needs a few runs in the 2s and Davey also needs a consistent run at it rather then playing sub in the seniors then being non playing emergency the week after.

Ryder was better than he has been recently but something still seems off. His effort at a few contests in the last qtr were well below the level I'd expect from a senior player,

Spot on.

Piss weak efforts at winning contested ball - at least on three occasions in the last quarter.

His intensity is below the required level.

Play him. Why drop him? He wasnt bad today. He's improving and at the youthful age of 23, he is the future along with T Bell. I doubt Hillie would provide us with anything significantly better.

Hard to make a judgment on Ryder's effectiveness as a forward when our forward 50 entries have been so bad. He seems to be on a slight up turn to me.

When Ryder is in the middle, he is one of very few players that always blocks for his teammates. He always does it, without fail.

I thought he has been ok the past few weeks, kicked four last week and provided a good marking option the past few weeks. But agree a few of his efforts yesterday in terms of winning ball and laying tackles when he needed to were not great, still needs to be given games as he has a lot of talent, yet people need to realise he is a ruckman by trade and only pinch hitting in the foward line. If he is the be all and end all of our foward line then we are in trouble and I think blaming him for all our foward line troubles is silly as he has given more than Crameri the past 3 or 4 weeks and kicked more goals - which is the idea of a key foward target surely?

Our foward line troubles run deeper than Paddy not kicking 6 every week. He is a ruckman and we should have other specialist fowards doing that. Perhaps it is time to give Williams a go? Perhaps we need to throw gumby back in the team sooner rather than later and take a risk? These two lead in space towards the ball carrier at both full foward and centre half foward, plus gumby can take great contested marks. With one of these two providing a target it will take the pressure of Ryder and Hurley.

This still does not fix the issues of our ball use going into 50 and also our ability to keep it in there

We definately lack a crumbing foward at the moment. I think that's exacerbating the problem.

The main problem with Ryder is that he looks like he's not trying sometimes especially when he's chasing an opponent. Having said that I don't think he's in the the top few you'd consider dropping.

The Ryder debate is starting to become like the Stanton debate.

Only focusing on small parts of the overall package.

And being a good AFL player is more than kicks and handballs.
