Welcome to the First Preliminary Final for SFA Season 25, between the East Side Hawks and the Sin City Swamprats. This contest is scheduled for one round, barring resims, with the winner to progress to the Grand Final to play either the Roys FFC or the Dragons FFC.
The Hawks had the second ranked attack in the H&A season, as well as the #2 ranked defence, to finish with the best percentage in the league, while the Swamprats ranked 7th and 4th in the respective rankings. The opposing full-forwards, BRAB and Dingster, were joint winners of the Fred Medal, with 69 goals each. Towards the end of the season, and going hroough finals, the Swamprats found increased contribution from other forwards such as Power Raid, edgie and sataris, while the Hawks have relied on a more widespread goal scoring list, with midfielders spookism and The Filth Wizard their next highest scorers. Both teams had members inducted into the Hall of Fame this week, with The Filth Wizard, Biggie and larrikin from the Hawks and ant555 ffrom the Swamprats joining the league’s elite. This shapes as a battle of the forward lines, and both teams will be hoping for fine or warm conditions.

HOW THIS CAME TO BE
The Hawks ended up 4th on the ladder at the end of the regular season, despite only winning 2 of their last 7 games and spending most of the first part of the season atop the ladder. They took on the Dragons in the Qualifying Final, and destroyed the confidence of the Millky Cup winners with an 8 goal third quarter the catalyst for a 46 point win. Rested andrelaxed, they watched as the Swamprats and Wonders battled for the right to travel to the wide expanses of Waverley Park.
The Swamprats looked like repeating their horror S24, when they turned at the halfway point at 1-7, but won 6 of the last eight games to sneak into 7th position. An Elimination Final victory over the Furies was set up by a vintage ShaunDuggan game with 39 touches, then they sent the Wonders out in straight sets, with GotTheGoodes starring. With 8 wins from the last 10 games, they come to Arctic Park in good form.
THIS SEASON
Round 6 - East Side Hawks 14.13 (97) defeated Sin City Swamprats 11.3 (69)
In the midst of their losing streak, the Swamprats were never in this game against the Hawks. The Hawks asserted their authority early to lead by 26 points at quarter time, and the Rats never got within 2 goals as BRAB botted a bag of 7, while por_please_ya and NinjaSwan gathered 30+ touches each.
MATCH-UPS
BRAB vs Dingster – The dual Fred Medallists have carried the forward line of their teams for the duration. Whoever raises two flags the most will have bragging rights
Loonerty vs Power Raid – The Swamprat veteran booted 6 goals last outing, for a career high season, and the Hawks’ skipper cannot afford to zone off him
YearOfTheRoos vs ShaunDuggan – Ruck battle that is pivotal in feeding the bevy of busy midfielders on either side. The Swamprat veteran is in great form, and the Hawks rookie needs to be on his toes
TIP:
Swamprats have demonstrated that they multiple goalscoring avenues, and will salute by eleventy
