‘He was worried about his legacy’.

Not because of the relentless September failures you can set your watch to, but because he felt it would be clever to lip off at an opposition player after a home Semi Final against 7th-place that he was lucky to get the chocolates in, and immediately faced backlash of a level that had only previously come from the likes of us.

It’s always only ever about him, yet he still manages to command the enduring sympathy of a ridiculous number of our supporters and the wider media in general.

‘His legacy’.

It’s hilarious, because carrying on like a smug d¡ckhead when he’s kicking with a stiff breeze, and generally letting his emotions get the better of him in high-pressure situations, is 100% on-brand.

Be that:

• spraying an opposition player,

• the embarrassing “zero-5/1-zero” carry-on after Motlop saved his arse in that Showdown,

• storming out of a press conference when asked about his contract,

• spraying rookie-Peter Ladhams after he had the bright idea to pit him and not Scott Lycett against Todd Goldstein,

• ringing Kane Cornes to complain the first time Kane didn’t slurp his knackers,

• smirking/grinning/joking after pathetic losses,

• the shirty exchange with Tredrea at 5AA in the aftermath of the 2021 Prelim,

• the rumoured spat with Schofield,

• or blubbering in a comically brittle fashion to Sarah Jones after scraping past the lowly Saints at Marvel.

Imagine where’d we’d be if this team could’ve had the benefit of an emotionally-stable, selfless coach, with the tactical acumen and interpersonal skills to get the most out of them as individuals and a unit when it matters most?

It is a crime he is still employed by Port and we’re entering yet another freaking year with him sucking all hope out of the joint.
Great post

What a coincidence that the AGM just happened to fall on a date that was both day one of the Adelaide Test, meaning the eyes of the state were focused elsewhere diverting attention from it, and also a day where the much maligned and under pressure Senior Coach had a prior family commitment.

Remarkable. I’m sure no other dates were available.
Until the club actually faces itself & stops focussing on damage control it will never be a successful club & consequently never earn the respect of the Afl

Based on the post-AGM revelation that the players need to be coddled and told they've been successful after perpetually failing in finals, the club really should look to engage a younger coach who may be able to give some home truths in a way that won't dent the fragile psyches of a group of 19-25 year olds instead of giving zero home truths and solely relying on a Camperdown bumpkin being a father figure/best friend/syndicate owner to maybe get lucky one season.

But they won't because it's the Ken Hinkley Football Club and they don't actually need to be successful (I mean actually successful - premiership successful) while there is no ability for fans and members to hold them accountable for perpetuating this underperformance.

Adam Kingsley will be the best coach Port Adelaide never had, and he was out there and available forever.

But we couldn't grab him because we've permanently hitched our wagon to Hinkley.

Self-sabotage.

I just can’t believe they’ve chosen now to pivot to full ‘mask off, saying the quiet part out loud’.

The long-awaited financial position of strength should herald a new phase of raising the bar, taking risks and demanding more in the earnest pursuit of a premiership, not less.

Instead it’s, “eh, enough of this chasing greatness, we exist to win premierships bullsh¡t, we’re resting on our $$$laurels$$$ and claiming victory now”.

This is a ripper post, and I’ve wanted to do a video where I reel off a bunch of his toxic or unprofessional behaviours that we’ve seen over the years so this is very helpful. The ones I kept in the quote from your message are the ones I don’t quite remember happening, would anyone happen to have links that or just specific games where these happened that I could potentially cite as examples?

Look at the way Kingsley speaks about the semi final review and imagine how Donuts would speak about the prelim finals losses.

Ken's last notable action of the 2024 season was to embarrass himself and the club mocking Ginnivan.

The first and only opportunity for the membership to hold him accountable for that in a public setting was the AGM.

Of course he doesn't have the guts to turn up, and the club pathetically gives him a free pass to do so because they're spineless.

This is literally the Jesse Pinkman "he can't keep getting away with it" meme.

I'd say Hinkles' last act of the season was to go into the prelim certain that 'bomb long to Dixon's rotting corpse' would be a winning strategy this time.

He doesn't give up on a strategy just because it's failed 80% of the time, no sirree bob.

He's not a quitter.

• The press conference: https://www.ntnews.com.au/sport/ken...estion/video/cb03ad32e874d6a184679ddb5474651e

• The Ladhams spray was at quarter time against North Melbourne where Goldstein went thermonuclear and Ben Brown kicked 10 in 2019 (Lycett and Dougal both selected for the reserves). I can’t find an official media reference to it, but enjoy this one-two punch from Jez Clayton and me on Twitter at the time:

• Taking issue with Kane Cornes:

• “Reports of the heated off-air exchange with Tredrea” (here’s a screencap for minimal provenance, I can’t get that link to work):

"Now fellas why have I shown the prelim ending against the Swans?"

"To remember that Sydney were really unfair because they didn't play against us like they did against the Lions?"

"Yep, good one. What else?"

"To celebrate a successful season making a prelim?"

"Spot on. Who else has something?"

"To keep perspective and remember that the real prize was the Oppenheimer movies we watched along the way?"

"Absolutely. Now go grab a coke zero and let's go to the greyhounds before the first race starts"

That is also apt for the fact that all competitors are on the podium. It's the classic everyone gets a participation award. It was admitted at the AGM that the players need to be coddled and told they've been successful after perpetually failing in finals which is in effect the same as a participation award. It doesn't matter where we finish the players are told they've been successful. No wonder it's all about work life balance with lifestyle being more important than doing whatever it takes to be truly successful. This is the loser culture of Koch, Davies, Richardson and Hinkley.

Give him another crack. Put a cardboard cut-out of Dixon at chf.
