I believe Josh applied then withdrew later. Can someone confirm?
Josh applied and had 1 informal meeting with someone high up at Richmond not sure who probably the ceo, like most candidates probably do then had 1 interview with the selection committee I heard, then pulled out.
I know at the time Caro went on radio and said that Richmond were dissapointed josh had dropped out but understood his reasoning.

Thanks. Was sure he applied.

I hate to say it but part of me is hoping that this season turns into a disaster on field as it will be our only chance of getting rid of Hinkley.

I just know that this current regime will reappoint Hinkley once again if we are in the final 8.
Death riding us after every loss, and any time we look like losing, hoping it turns into a thumping. Not a very nice position for life long members to be in hey but here we are FFS.

What is actually wrong with letting someone's contract run out if you are not convinced going into the next year?

This unfair pressure thing without job security is nonsense it's professional sport, for a coach that's had his building periods in bulk there should be nothing wrong with messaging along the lines of make a GF and/or win a flag and we'll talk.

As I said to a friend who's a Steelers fan last night, even Ken fücking Hinkley has won a playoff game in the last 8 years!
I thought Tomlin had a ring. Doesn’t he have one?

Yes that's true the club is dumb enough to let it drag.
which is why the sooner they come out and say something the better. I don't buy this there is no succession plan stuff. There are people at Richmond who believe that carr pulled out of the tigers proces cause he was promised the port job. Mind you if ken would come out as soon as his future is questioned by the media by saying he is not entertaining any talks on his future until seasons end that would help ease any talk but it's probably too much to ask of king ken

Carr was most definitely promised the Port job - it's why he pulled out of the Richmond coaching search. And, depending on who you speak to, Carr may have even gotten that promise in writing from the Club.

Yeah he does - but that was 16 years ago.

Ken can't possibly be coaching past this year if that's the case, if the club at a minimum promised Josh head coach, surely it wasn't on the back of "whenever Ken decides he's had enough" & a timeframe of anything longer than two years seems hugely unrealistic.

Does make sense though, why would Josh apply, go through a couple of interviews then decide he didn't want to uproot his family? Surely that would be the decision not to apply at all.

Has any club ever announced a succession plan prior to the season starting?

Closest I can think of is Malthouse/Buckley but I don't think that was an official announcement, just the rumour mill like we have with Hinkley/Carr. Same with Clarkson/Mitchell I think.

As far as the club is concerned, they're sitting pretty. If they choose to invoke the Carr succession, it's all good, "just as we planned". If they don't they can say "we never said there was a succession plan".
I think the Demons basically announced the succession along with announcing that Paul Roos was going to coach.

Although I think that was more that Roos was reluctantly pulled out of retirement by giant bags of money.

Why apply if he had no intention of leaving Adelaide? Were Richmond going to let him coach via Skype? My understanding is that Richmond approached him to join the process and he declined.

Caro just makes sh!t up so she seems to be in the know.

Forgot about that. That was slightly different though. More of an apprenticeship type arrangement.

Just an FYI - any succession plan is going to be led and worked through by the footy committee. It has next to nothing to do with the Board, other than ratification which is a formality.

CD didn't return from holidays until this week, and I've heard nothing to suggest anything is imminent.

Bottom line is the Club has the better part of 2 months to get it sorted. If not, all bets are off and 2025 becomes a shitshow from round 1.

Koch opened his mouth and said "ask me in August" about Ken shortly before round 1 of 2023. So I am not sure how they can have zero public certainty around the situation or at the very least, a public plan of how things are going to be evaluated (moving forward) before the start of round 1.

Would be so on brand for this regime to do nothing though going into round 1, get blasted by Collingwood with Houston BOG and then face a barrage of questioning from the media about last year's trade period along with Ken's contract and the uncertainty it provides even though it is only round 1.
Out of interest who’s on the footy committee?

Last year it was Cardone (committee chair), Richo, CD, Snowdon, Tredrea and Cassisi, with Cripps as an honorary non-voting member who would provide significant input during these meetings.

My understanding is that Snowdon remains on the committee this year despite not being a board member. I'm unsure if Fiacchi has been added in light of his addition to the Board of Directors.

It’s a better committee now that tredders is on it and hopefully fiacchi.

No wonder kenny was reappointed with cardone, Richo, cd and Cassisi on it. Had 4/6 in his pocket or voting based on self interest.

We need to get grant Thomas on the committee.

Cassisi would be happy to see Hinkley gone, if for nothing else than the fact he's close with Carr.

CD and Richo are the ones to blame for this mess. If they wanted Hinkley gone then he'd be gone.

Respectfully, Cardone and Richo are the only two who are really firm in Ken's corner, and even then, I think you'd find if you gave them some truth serum, they'd agree it's time for Ken to move on.

I vehemently disagree with Richo being on the committee though. He has zero football expertise, and is not a Director on the Board. His job is about maximising the Club in its off-field capacity, and he needs to stay in that lane as opposed to having a voice in footy discussions.

Agree re Richo.. he should only be getting coffees for the committee.

I’d rather Cripps get a vote then him.

If CD isn't firmly in Hinkley's corner after the over the top, gleaming endorsements he's given him over the years, then I'm Margot Robbie.

CD knows how to play the PR game as well as anyone in footy.

And anyone with an ounce of it knows no footy dept head is going to be anything less than 10000% in their head coach's corner publicly.

The Hinkley/CD bromance and extracurricular commercial arrangements make it difficult for me to believe that CD is not pro-Hinkley.

Cassisi's public attacks on Tredrea for daring to criticise Hinkley show he is pro-Hinkley.

Is a hug in the coaches box after Robbie gray kicked a goal from the boundary after the siren to beat Carlton really bromance? Seems like a fairly normal reaction to me. Most after the siren wins would be the same at other clubs.
