I'd forgotten about Hardwick starting each quarter in the center to smash in hard, then go to the bench after 7 or 8 minutes for the rest of the quarter

Hardwick's first quarter was vitally important to setting the tone of that Grand Final. It is often overlooked.

Still remember when Koch fronted our supporters after the EF loss to the Eagles and the way he was speaking was like he was on the verge of firing everyone. Not sure why the complete backflip a day or so after.
He was taken in for re-education lessons. We've taken a leaf out of the Camry play book. Actually no, we've taken the entire ****ing book and indoctrinated everyone at Alberton.

I never thought I'd get to the point of contemplating if Primus with all the resources Hinkley has had would've been any worse, he was right about the Cornes brothers IMO.

Primus was nowhere near ready for an AFL head coaching role, but he was at least fairly aware of that fact and probably would have been more accepting of advice like "hey go to the US and do a coaching course". Ken Hinkley doesn't do self improvement, because it's for winners.

That’s why I hope Melbourne start next year well so that the media have no other coaches to target. Maximum pressure on Hinkley.
I feel the opposite is more helpful. eg Melbourne can’t sack Goodwin because hes extended until end 2022, so media will want to deflect attention away from him

Hinkley and Donna made a big deal to Koch about the lack of public support from David to Ken in particular. One of the conditions of Ken extending his deal was for David to shut up a lot more regarding the criticism of Ken. Ken has never been able to handle the pressure which is why Koch and him never really got along.

It's also why whenever Koch has a sound bite on radio clipped, it's always about how good Ken is going and how Ken has Koch's full support.

Take the veil off and you'll find David is loathe to say anything nice about Ken behind closed doors, but at the same time, is hamstrung by too many political factors (many of his own doing) to.choose to do anything about it.

And so began “Operation Scapegoat Wingard”...

It seems like such a turning point doesn't it.

If only Koch had the balls to follow through

He might have improved after 7 years rather than getting worse though.

Exactly this. I doubt Primus would have been as inept, as arrogant and as stupid as a coach after 7 years of well resourced footy program and with the players at his disposal.

I remember Primus had players such as Renouf, OShea, Hitchcock, Logan, Phillips, Moore etc. Not exactly the talented list that Hinkley has wantonly squandered in the past 7 years.

Hinkley will go into 2020 as the coach under the most pressure given the 2019 turnover. No flying under the radar in 2020. He won't handle that stress well at all. The external scrutiny will be refreshing...
Let's hope so. I can't believe how softly Ken has been treated over the journey, it's like "oh he's such a good ol' country bloke, let's make every lame excuse under the sun for him, mustn't pressure him with anything resembling accountability". He should have been getting hammered for years over his lack of results.
