It was a complete **** up, no doubt. And I think was a lot to do with ego on Kochies part, not wanting to be made to look stupid by gold coast of all clubs. Am excellent example why he shouldn't be allowed anywhere near football decisions.Ken had no pathway to being GC head coach except by Port’s explicit consent. If we told Ken he’s seeing out his contract, GC stil hire Dew and Ken is jobless or in a weak negotiating position a year later.
It was an abysmal failure on Koch and KT’s part to fu** that up in the first place, so why wouldnt they repeat it. No accountability.
2 years later though and right now Ken being at the club makes everyone's job more difficult, from retaining members, to on field performance to signing sponsors (outside of family of course).
Sacking Ken at the end of the current contract or ideally earlier is the easy sugar hit that will give everything else a bump. Choosing the right next coach will be the hard part. Hopefully targeting the draft and bringing in people like Morris makes the place more appealing to high level applicants at the end of 2020/21.
My point is that without a significant improvement in on field performance I can't see the club wanting to hold on to Ken. It's at a point now where apart from the financial cost, sacking Ken is the easier decision than holding on to him.
Given that recently the club has seemingly gone out of their way to double down on stupid though, who knows
Hope is a dangerous thing
