He should see out his contract, unless the 2 parties can reach an amicable agreement otherwise. He has put in the years of effort and commitment and this should be respected.
He very well may have put in the effort and been committed but you've missed the most critical part which is performance, which he has had ample opportunity but has not delivered (unless you rate prelim losses as successes).
As for AFL coaches amicably parting ways with their clubs and fulfilling their contracts - that's cute, but rarely a reality, in any elite sporting competition.

The Covid era has really taken away the balls form the staff at all levels of the club. They saw how many got people got the arse and everybody is in self preservation mode. Hinkley runs the football department with an iron fist and nobody dares challenge him. He is in complete self preservation mode himself and because all parts of the club are spread too thin he doesn't come under proper scrutiney internally and is a master of making issues somebody else's fault. The Conduit between the Football department and the Board, has a lack of football emphasis is a key problem as he is concentrating in other areas. When the Club states that football is its absolute core business, how this clown remains is an indictment on what the club has become.

I feel like (rightly or wrongly) that I am part of the toxic commentary about Ken alluded to by Ford. Because I said he didn't care about Port Adelaide.

Well I want to know. can we complain about his coaching? is that still fair enough?

Also should I have said "I don't believe that Ken cares about Port Adelaide" and made it my opinion (which is shared with thousands of others btw) and that covers the 'allegations'.

I don't ever like pile ons onto people who are just doing their job. But there are some jobs where you are observed closely and judged by the public unfortunately (I actually do one of these jobs) and while it is not right to just go feral in attacking someone for doing their job, there also has to be a forum or a place (if the club actually listened then we wouldn't need to publicly do this) for actually voicing your displeasure if that person is constantly not doing their job to the standard. What is the protocol for complaining about someone who is actually not capable of carrying out their duties but still is getting paid a lot of money to do it?

Where does it end? Can we not complain if politicians are useless? What about if i think that someone is a crap actor am I not allowed to state this because Matt Damon is doing the best he can?

I actually thought containing the frustrations to one thread was actually the best strategy as people who did not agree could avoid it and it did not permeate into every other thread.

I truly want to know how to be heard by Port Adelaide because they don't seem to listen to their supporters and if i don't feel like I am able to comment or contribute to my club then what is the point of supporting them. I can just as well watch Port on tv and leave it at that.

I haven’t noticed the comments on here being any different to usual lately? Did I miss something?

I think it has something to do with people saying they hate Ken, and such like. For the record, I don't hate Ken - away from football, I have no doubt that he's a really nice guy. But I do hate certain aspects of the Hinkley era:

  • I despise his game plan, which almost makes Married at First Sight seem entertaining by comparison (actually can I retract that - that was over the top :))
  • I hate his record against good teams - when the opposition locks down on our play makers, Ken has no answers
  • I hate the fact that several ordinary teams have gone past us. Even St. Kilda and Adelaide have played in grand finals since we last reached the last Saturday in September. Sorry happy clappers, but my patience has run out, and I want to see my team competing for the ultimate prize. We won't get that opportunity while Ken remains at Alberton.

I hate Ken. He is not a nice guy. Even if he was I would still hate him.

You are not toxic, nor are your opinions that you have posted.

There is a common denominator that is toxic

SACK KERNEL FINKLEY:poo::poo::poo:

In my view this board has been pretty reasonable in its level of offensiveness towards King Ken Hinkley the Messiah. Any comments that are personal are very quickly shut down by the overwhelming majority.

Sure there are a lot of jokes made which are very clearly jokes (eg above). But are we not allowed to make passing jokes when voicing an opinion or venting on an online forum?

Does the PAFC have a list of names we cannot call Ken Hinkley, just like the CCP has a list of names Chinese citizens cannot call Xi Jinping?

If the club has really taken issue with the comments made on this forum then they are even more far gone from the Port Adelaide of old then we think.

Heck if they are really reading this then take note - SACK HINKLEY

Wouldn't it be about 500k if it was done NOW, due to the rule the AFL brought in about sacked coaches only being eligible for half a year's salary?
Imho and I stand ready to be corrected but I believe it only applies to the final year extension if we don't make the finals this year. A type of golden parachute. No doubt there are those on the board who are better versed in his contract and contract law...

Club taken issues with things said on here? Thought it was just ford giving us a little clip around the ear and keeping us in line...

Some of the comments in this thread are getting quite toxic and personal.

Please try to restrict discussion to football and stay away from baseless allegations.
Thanks for this. I logged on to read about others thoughts on the game on Sunday and had to wade through 22 redundant comments about Ken in China and what he ate, drank and who he sat next to. I went to those games and we won both of them.

This doesn’t mean I don’t think he should finish up, it just means I don’t care how much Coke Zero he drinks and what happened in China is ancient history. I just want my team to be at the pointy end of the ladder and my club to be financially stable and the kids at the club like Rozee, Butters, Marshall, Bergman etc to feel supported and connected.

I noticed in the past two weeks CD has mentioned Ken has a personal issue and he’s required time off, if there’s an illness those who are calling for his head may get their wish and in the meantime I think we should all try and play the ball and not the man.

Totally agree we should be playing the ball, not the man. Especially, even if just occasionally that should be on the last weekend of September. You know, like port used to do when it was hellbent on trying to win stuff. I don't know the ins and outs of Ken's greyhounds (though there's a stink around all of it I'm sus of) but I do know how Tim G speaks of how good a supporter base who don't tolerate bs is for the club.
And because no matter how good our squad we rarely beat anyone in the top 4...ever...sack Hinkley. We effectively sacked Russ after much less and ken (and me) aren't fit to tie the great man's shoelaces.
