If your desire is to support a team in the EDFL 3rds then go ahead, no one is stopping you. It is really easy to demand more fight when it is not you in there doing the fighting. The reality is we don't know what went on last year and those that do may have significant legal advice saying this is the best option. I doubt Little would just give in.

My desire is to support the Essendon Football Club, a founding member of this league and one of its cornerstones. Not an entity that has been denied even the basic right to defend itself and will be tainted with the greatest penalty in the game's history.

You're right, we don't know the full story of what happened last year. Nor does anyone in the public. And I doubt very few in the media do either. I'd like to though, and conceding this point makes that nigh impossible.

Seriously, how hard is it to read a thread title and understand it?
For people with an intellectual disability? Pretty damn hard.

If this 'deal' is being seriously considered by anyone at Essendon, it would have to be 'better' than what they thought they would otherwise get.

In other words, the AFL must have put a worse deal on the table previously, and said 'we believe that this is fair'. Really?
Pretty sure they did. Didn't they ask for 2 years worth of draft picks, 2013 points, a bigger fine, and Reid, Thompson, Hird and Corcoran to all resign? Plus the inference that it was because we were drug cheats.

Where has the word governance come from? FFS it's administration.

Background checks not done? Admin screw up.
Records weren't kept properly? Admin screw up
Recruiting process needs some tweaking? Admin screw up.
Reports aren't being read by those that should? Admin screw up.

The word "governance" makes it sound a thousand times worse. F*** off with your "governance" bullshit.

Pretty sure theres too many rumours/leaks around for this one to blow over. And it wouldnt surprise me if it was the AFL that was the one holding this back now just to get past tomorrow night's game where their gate would be extremely low if our points were stripped.

Maybe I'm wrong, maybe we should go to court, risk totally destroying the club and any prospects of success out of a very promising list.

Is that risk worth chasing a few answers that may not even be there, and getting a few scalps that may well fall anyway.

People are placing too much value on draft picks if you ask me, I think a loss of points is far worse, it would forever be on record that we were the first and more likely only club to be stripped of premiership points, that there is a life penalty. It would destroy the players who have gone through so much this year and been good enough to qualify for the finals only to have it ripped away from then at the last minute. To say that the club would accept a deal as long as its not worded that we were drug cheats really doesn't matter, what do you think people will say in 20 years when its spoken about? Essendon lost points in 2013 because of management issues and poor governance? or Essendon were drug cheats? The damage is already done. People are judging the draft pick values on what happened to Carlton, it must be remembered that they were already down the bottom part of ladder with a pretty average list, where as we are potentially in the middle of a premiership window with a very healthy and balanced list. Free agency and the ability to trade for draft picks is also a factor in this. I say **** the AFL, we have come this far already, why pull out now? Lets stick it up the football world and win a final.

It's a midfielders draft, we need midfielders. it'd be a massive loss.

we could score one possibly two blue chip mid prospects which is HUGE for the club

I m not saying losing draft picks isn't huge, I just think that losing points and not playing finals is bigger, Look after the players that are there now not who may be there in the future.

Yup.

If we accept this, I propose that we rename the B&F to the V.A.L.J. Quisling Medal.

So here is the question. Do we lose points or just not play finals? i.e. if we finish 7th, does 6th place just have a week off? If we aren't to play finals, I hope this is how it will work. The finals are for the top 8 teams. If you aren't in the top 8, you shouldn't play finals.

Surely if we are stripped of points we won't be playing the last two weeks.

1) Players have no need to risk injury/will lack desire.
2) In effect Carlton and Richmond have no reason to try - They get points but no percentage.

And the players may not want to play.

The club had better *not* have put any pressure on any of the 4 charged officials to take a deal to get someone else a lesser sentence.

If it's negotiating a deal at all, the club should only be negotiating a deal in relation to its own charge.

Don't think they would get the points if they lost would they?
