I trust Eddie enough that I'd be very surprised if he were party to a scam.

I wasn't suggesting MMM set up a scam, more that we don't know for sure if some random with an axe to grind rang in.

Look, the call is most likely on the level. However, I don't think one anonymous caller's opinion should be getting a lot more airtime than the multiple parents that have revealed their identities and have supported the club. This is the media we're talking about though.

its time for players to start tweeting #standbyhird again
I hope the players stay out of commenting on and getting involved in this as much as humanly possible, for their own mental wellbeing and so they can focus on being players.

The best support they can provide anyone at the club is to put in a big effort on the weekend.

Can I be a Spec Mod, just for this thread?
I am on it 24/7. I'd only delete people who jump on from other teams, unless they're saying something super informative and are being nice about it.

+1

willing to lend a hand if needed

I wonder how many marriages this Essendon saga has ended for non-opposition supporters.

“Honey, did you forget to pick up Dylan from school again”

That's an MX518, serious gamers mouse.
Sensitivity isn't low enough to be a good FPS player, as you can see how far his mouse moves.
Kid has to be a MOBA player, like Dota etc.

Unlikely Corcoran will avoid suspension however EFC hopefully he can be lumped into some kind of deal

Pretty bloody harsh considering his wife passed away and he was away for a lot of the time in question.

I don't think it holds much weight even if authentic, she's essentially admitted to not knowing the full story.

If she's genuine, I hope the club get around her and alay her fears somewhat

As far as I can see, the 17 other clubs have urged the AFL and Essendon to solve our differences outside of court. A.k.a, AFL begging the other teams to try and save their asses by pressuring Essendon into taking a deal

Or just maybe, the presidents will urge the AFL to back down and make a reasonable deal.

I think we're going to lose this one, simply because the power of the interests arrayed against us is too great, and we'll be punished punitively for fighting. If that happens, nobody should feel ashamed. As a club we stuffed up in a previous season, we admitted to it, and we sorted ourselves out. We deserved to be penalised, in proportion to our club's offence. But we did not deserve to be accused of cheating the rules in such a wide and unspecified way, and told to prove our innocence or be declared guilty. We did not deserve our club to be slandered in a barrage of innuendo, half-truths, and outright lies. We did not deserve our own captain to be booed by a bunch of moronic West Coast supporters for an entire game, for taking a substance that we had been told by ASADA was not prohibited, and the AFL knew this to be the case, but had bound our lips. And after complying with the AFL for so many months, we did not deserve them to perform a Judas act on us.
We'll eventually have to take what's coming but never think of abandoning your club, and don't ever be ashamed for supporting them despite the continuing attacks we're going to see from the usual suspects. I like to believe there's such a thing as karma, and there will be opportunities for us to get back at the scum who have been attempting to bring our club down, every one of the deceitful, cowardly, and spiteful dogs. When we have the opportunities, savour them.

Unconfirmed rumour (70%) that 'Sarah' may not be 100% legit.

Very worrying if true.. very worrying.

I'm actually HOPING she was legit.. if not, this just went up 600 notches of crazy stupid.

Kind of what I was saying. Without some sort of proof we don't know for sure, and it suits the media's agenda to have a distressed parent to write stories about.

Having said that, if she's on the level I hope the club does everything possible to contact her and provide her support and any assistance/information that would help make her feel better and allay her fears about the situation.

For those who may not know... this statement:
"We resolved to unanimously express our support for the integrity of the AFL Rules and the need for those rules and the integrity of our competition to be preserved.

Actually relates to the fact that the 'AFL Rules' are like a deck of cards.. if they are challenged in court, they all fall over. Essentially all parties agreeing that IF this goes to court.. then everyone hurts and everyone's dirty laundry gets public. Very dangerous and doesn't help the 'AFL Management' one bit in court.. the court is interesting in one thing only: EVIDENCE.. not how quickly the other club presidents want it sorted out.. especially when at least four members of that group are highly beholden to the governing body...!

Well.. in a HUGE shock announcement.. the other 17 clubs have all 'sided' with the AFL.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-08-22/keep-it-out-of-the-courts

Well actually they have stated that this needs to be 'sorted out' and 'quickly' and 'in house' and 'out of the media'..

but apparently that is the same thing to the media..
Yep. Quote not entirely consistent with desired narrative, sub-editor throw speculative headline on it.

They've sided with the AFL that they don't want it in court, that's all you can take from that quote.

Essendon tried that remember, they wouldn't comment on the on going investigation. But the AFL leaked and leaked and leaked and here we are now.

She's getting disproportionate airtime because her story fits the narrative and because she was passionate - some people link level of emotion with strength of argument (the more emotionally you put your case, the more weight it should be given).

Playing Devil's Advocate for a minute, it's not surprising that someone with negative things to say about the club and Hird would want to be anonymous, to avoid any consequences falling on her son.
