If anyone wants to have a listen about what the data is saying in regards to whether we have actually gotten worse this year have a listen to this from the 9:15 mark.

I know a few people have already touched on it, but the data is also showing that our results this year have been slightly better despite actually putting out a younger team and dealing with some injuries.

And here.

Think it's interesting that in the past 6 weeks we've only had two players get over 30 touches, both of them in the slugfest against the Saints.
Ties in with what I’ve been saying recently, that Sammy is building a very even, and evenly balanced side, with little in the way of out and out superstars, just more a side full of good to excellent players who play their roles beautifully.

It’s ultimately the type of side that will win a flag without a Brownlow winner or many in the AA side.

Yep. As long as everyone brings the intensity and effort then the ball will keep moving and the wins will come. Who really cares who gets 30-40 touches when the club kicks over 100 points and we get the W.

It makes perfect sense to me. There are plenty of teams who rely on and focus far too much on their one or two best players. Either a superstar mid like Nat Fyfe or Bontempelli or a key forward (who may or may not be performing well on any given day). Some teams clearly have restricted avenues to goal. Makes them more predictable and easier to play against and also probably not the best mind set for a team to have. Doesn't mean you can't have that top line player or players (they can lift a whole team) but the team needs to be in sync and each player contributing fully. I've always thought that.

I think Moorey typifies our side ATM. Not a superstar, and probably never will be (in fact, he continues to fly under the radar a bit), but plays with great energy and absolute commitment to the cause.

The old ‘champion team beats a team of champions’ chestnut.

Gee we were blessed to have both in 2013-15.
I thought this after I wrote the above. Champions on every line but all contributed, an even team. Not lopsidedly relying on one or two players.

I also think its a difference in strategy. Some teams are ultra high possession - Sam seems to be very keen on good ball users and decision makers. It's not how often you touch it, but what you do with it.

I think it's fair to say that within a season or two we will have some of the best kicks in the league. In fact, we might already!

Sicily, D'Ambrosio, Amon, Day and McKenzie I think we can rate as elite disposal. All aside from McKenzie have the ability to roost the ball 50 metres to a target and break open the field, whereas McKenzie is more of a surgeon with precisely weighted kicks. Day can hit targets from either foot which is such an elite skill.

Other players such as Worps, Croc and Frosty have really tidied up their ball use, and some of our forwards have great field kicking nous too. Read this morning that Ginni only has 48% DE so he'll need to work on that, but this is the first time he's been given license to roam and he's providing so much for the team - that will definitely improve.

McCabe and Watson are supposed to be great kicks too.

Put all of this together - we will have a team with some amazing runners and endurance athletes who relish the contest and pressure, and can slice an opposition apart with laserlike ball movement. It's a good time to be a hawks supporter :handfist:

Scrimmers wouldn't be far of being elite, he's a beautiful kick of the footy as well (although he doesn't try and make the ambitious 50m passess that Sic çan)

A link to facebook which links to the Herald-Sun.
I curse you...

That's actually a very in depth and quite well written article on our revival. One of the few articles I have read where I got the impression the journo actually watches us play!

Those comments by Sam on Scrimmers and his impact not always being on the stat sheet I found very interesting.

Dylan Moore is most definitely a champion, and will retire as one of our greatest of the 21st century.
He doesn't look like it, but he plays like it.

I understand why he does not elicit the usual adulation for his style of play.
But he literally does everything one could ask of a half forward, and he does all the good stuff,
Goals, tackles, chases, contests.
He's a winner.

I suppose I was just talking about how he is perceived outside the Hawthorn bubble. I love him, he’s at the very pointy end of my favourite modern-day Hawks.

👍

In the last five games, Hawthorn are 1st in the comp for shots on goal per inside 50s.

3rd in the comp for scores from centre bounce.

6th for marks inside 50.

5th for rebound 50’s per opposition entry.

I have been working on something for the past few weeks, in regards to some structures and other things.

It’ll be out tomorrow and I’ll send the link here 👀

I can understand why people do not yet perceive Dylan as being a Champion.

A person's perception of another person is shaped by their past experiences.

Hawthorn Champions win premierships.
