If anyone wants to have a listen about what the data is saying in regards to whether we have actually gotten worse this year have a listen to this from the 9:15 mark.

I know a few people have already touched on it, but the data is also showing that our results this year have been slightly better despite actually putting out a younger team and dealing with some injuries.

And here.

One thing which can be observed from the 3 matches so far is our ability to grind opponents into the ground, Collingwood and Richmond it was easy to pass that up as practice game and clubs just pulling the boots up but the North game might just highlight just how much better we're at running over the grass for a full 4 quarters.

We have some serous endurance runners in the team already with more coming through as well.

We're rotating a lot of very physical midfielders through the guts, who are really working over the opposition midfields. If we can avoid giving away too much in the first quarter of games (like we did in the practice games) then we should be able to (as you say) grind teams down.

You could at one stage just press the red button the Foxtel remote to change to that view on Fox Footy

Could also switch to crowd noise. I’d pay good money for that on games where BT/Brayshaw are the lead commentators.

Also watch 6 year old repeats of uk gogglebox without more time on ads than goggle

But I think we have a slag Foxtel off thread already

Pretty hard to have too big of an ego in afl as the impact of one individual is far less than it is in a sport like basketball. Even guys like buddy, hodge and Martin needed teams around them to get the win. I’m sure young players do feel under pressure to focus on their own performance and the numbers they post though. Just don’t hear many young players talk in the way we see in some of the American sports.

I don't know watching Brad Hill doing dance moves in the warm -up on the weekend made me think is the club letting him off the leash a bit too much and the flaky form is now just the norm for him. On big dollars and the up and down in form is all over the place.
Been at the saints now this long and still hasn't settled down now to play consistent football.
I guess recruiting big name players on big contracts can go either way.

I'd say the issue for Hill is team choice. He's a hard running wingman on a team that plays the majority of its football on one of the worst grounds in the country for wings. He was great at the Hawks and Freo because the MCG, Launceston and Perth Stadium are all big grounds where he's able to demonstrate his impact on the outside.

Why doesn't he try and engage with them and figure out why they are disinterested or their body language is bad?

This sounds like the classic, 'kids are soft' dribble.
How do you know he doesn't engage with the kids? I doubt he's condensed his entire player management strategy into those 2 minutes.

I think also to some degree he's been spoiled in his career. Arrives in the AFL and within his first 4 seasons he's a triple premiership player. Then through Hawthorn's good graces he's easily able to move back home to play with his brother, and then finally cashes in with a mega deal at St Kilda on the back of a B&F at Freo.

He seems very comfortable knowing that whatever happens next he's ending his career with multiple premiership medals, a club B&F, and a bunch of cash. Yeah, he'll probably work harder when the heat is on him, but he doesn't appear to have any internal motivation or desperation to help St Kilda win a flag. Just happy to get paid a stack to play footy.

Sounds nothing like 'kids are soft' dribble.

He's talking about 'team first' or 'me first'

What was mitchell's quote on hodgey as a player. He was greatest ever player without the ball he had ever seen let that sink in. It is what made Hodge really great not just as a player but as captain. If he is directing you to go somewhere u do it because he sees something u dont. Loving seeing ward demonstrate this as a young kid wow
Hodge was incredible to watch live. 1 game i remember him giving signals to Burton "forward, forward forward... Stop, come in a bit.... (stoppage forward flank) Okay push up further...(stoppage pocket) . Now come back"(stoppage flank)" quick kick out of the stoppage uncontested mark Burton on the wing.

Hodge is 60 meters behind Burton at chb, doesn't touch the ball but won it back for us.

If he doesn't say anything it either goes over Burton's head or drops short and they run off with it.

Oh and he was giving directions to 2 other players at the same time that play.

Problem is stkilda not Hill. Was very good at Hawthorn and Fremantle.

🐐 With and without the pill!

The way he was speaking about the Shiels omission suggests it's unrelated to any potential child birth that might be happening.
Maybe Shiels doesn't want to be away from his wife interstate while she is pregnant. So they are managing it but then why isn't he playing for box hill?

True. If he's not playing at all it could be some kind of injury or niggle. But then why go with "omitted" and not "managed". Very curious.

Now the bloody captain is individualising players - this is the real pandemic!
