IMO the alleged perp had SM's body in the back of the car, heard the phone ping (they were unaware she had it on her in her pocket perhaps) and got rid of it as soon as they could out of panic. Probably powered it down first. Seen the dam, jumped out of the car, went over the fence and piffed it.

Does anybody know how far from the fence he had to pitch it for it to land in the dam?

I checked the satellite image and referenced to the videos of (what I think) is the phone being photographed on the South edge of the dam. It looks to be about 20 meters from the fence line, or 30 meters if thrown from a car.

Probably further than I could throw from the window of a moving car. If I tried that it would have landed in the blackberries. Either that or it'd hit the A pillar on the way out and land on the road :worried:

POS plays footy, he'd have a strong arm, reflexes and hand eye coordination are probably pretty good so I don't think it's really that far. Looks like confidence in his ability to hit the dam.

Yep, someone clearly stopped, got out and heaved it.

Could he have been on the property and thrown it from a different direction? Are the properties all fenced there? Just a thought. He may not have been on the road.

Thank you for pointing out that I am weak, slow and uncoordinated 😂

Lol you do not hear a phone ping.

It sounds like this was an isolated ping, like no pings immediately before. (Phone pings are every 5 or 10 seconds when connected to a tower). Maybe the phone was off and got inadvertently turned on when it was thrown?

I think it was tossed into the dam from a distance, not dropped, or it would have probably ended up in the middle or deepest section of the dam.

Interesting from A Current Affair, the reporter has Clearly Mentioned the Police have been to that property SEVERAL times before yesterday …https://9now.nine.com.au/a-current-...sing-mum/6562a60e-6c9b-48cc-92bf-66817b16aa95
Is it possible there is confusion about which property/owner? The property with the motorcross tracks would have seemed to be the one likely to have interest the police (Possible association with these tracks), but the dam that has been shown in the media where the iPhone was found is the adjacent property north of it.

The police have never confirmed or denied any pings apart form a final ping. Even the final ping has only been reported by the media as occurring at 5:00pm, but, to my knowledge, the time has never been stated (or confirmed or denied) by the police

Maybe if it was just the phone itself, but as it was in one of those wallet style holders with cards also in it, and if only held closed by a light magnetic strip, wouldn't a forceful throw likely cause it to open up and hence become more air resistant? I have a similar one, and I would estimate I could only throw it half the distance if the wallet opened up compared to if it remained closed.

On the other hand, there might have been a button clip instead of magnetic strip to keep it closed.

Just because they have reported it doesn't mean it wasn't pinging, police do hold information back.

By ping I meant the alleged perp heard a notification sound. Thought shit the phone is on her, I can be tracked! I see a dam, let's stop here . I'll get out and heave it into the dam .

Probably not a good choice of words.

Agreed, they have not even confirmed (or denied) the 5pm ping, so police are keeping their cards close to their chest.
It is not in their interests to disclose everything. A 5pm ping may not be consistent with their current narrative, so confirming it publicly might compromise their prosecution efforts.

I read Samantha’s husband tried to ring her when she didn’t come home at the normal time from her run and her phone was turned off

I guess it's possible her phone set off a notification sound (like an appointment reminder) - and it would not necessarily need to be connected to the network if that happened. It would need to be powered on though. If there was a data transmission, like an email or IM received then that would be logged as a network access, not just a ping. It's possible the offender did not know (or had forgotten) they had the phone until they heard a notification.
I just think, if it was the offender with the phone, the smart thing to do would be to immediately disable the phone, then drive it a long way away before disposing of it. If the offender still had Samantha with them, the smart thing would be to disable the phone and dispose of it with her body at the same time. Stopping and chucking it into a random dam only increases the chances of getting caught.

I imagine they have had HIS phone for quite some time and the analysis has revealed his approximate movements on the day and places to search (when he had it with him).

So many crims these days take their devices with them when committing a crime. You'd think they would learn by now......

You're not throwing a phone in a case 30m and being confident in where it's landing.

Under stress and pressure, I don't think so. I think it has been put in there at close range, with anything else

The smart thing to do would not be to stay out all night on drugs and then kill somebody in the morning. The "smart thing to do" is irrelevant. IMO.

Or he's thrown it as if he couldn't care less.

It seems to be pretty open there and within view of big windows, he could have been seen if he walked her things in but maybe he did it at night.
