Yikes if what I just heard is true this is one sick prick better off the streets.

I definitely believe it's the same Patrick Stephenson currently being investigated by SOCIT.

Good grief.
How can we verify its the same person? It's a fairly common name. Someone probably needs to attend court?

I would assume he came onto the police radar via phone ping data placing him at the same location as Samantha.
If that's the case, some of his movements, before and after, may be known to police. For example, if he was out and partying the night before, he may have slept it off in Canadian. No reason to turn his phone off, so this would produce usable data (in theory).
It's also possible that a third party has come forward to police which connects POS to the crime - may have been observed acting strangely, may have said something, maybe injured or damaged clothing or vehicle,...
I believe the police must have (at least) some reliable evidence connecting him to the crime scene. How they consider to have enough to charge him with murder, I don't know, but it's possible they have some other evidence (maybe a discarded murder weapon, clothing etc.?)
The thing about pings is that (unless the analysis has come a long way) they don’t provide a particularly accurate location. You’d think there might be quite a few people in the vicinity.

From memory, with Adrian Bayley it was the fact their phones were hitting various mobile towers at the same time etc so maybe it’s something similar here (ie he moved her body with the watch or phone). Something similar happened with Borce Ristevski.

There must be something else in it for them to be as assertive as they have been about it being a deliberate act. The rumours about someone dobbing him in might be it.

It's not that common that the same name, same town, same cop all involved in the case?

I'm near the Maggie court but he likely won't even be in attendance?

If not in attendance, they appear by video link on a big screen in the courtroom.

So defence lawyers don't pay shrinks to provide testimony in support of mental health claims?

Of course they do. But psychiatrists don't just make up a diagnosis to suit the lawyer's wishes.

Same name as in same FULL name? And how do you know the town and the cop? All I can see on court lists is the name of the defendant, the magistrate and the court?

I’m very curious to know if he engaged in his normal routine, work, socialising etc.

I’ve attempted to come up with a timeline but I cannot vouch for it’s accuracy.

3/2 Reports/rumour the accused was at The Deck until 3am?

3/2 House sitting in Yendon no 2 road?

4/2 Eureka St 7am SM leaves home

4/2 Approx 7km away from SM’s home an incident is alleged to have occurred between SM and accused in Mt Clear at around 8.00am

4/2 5pm “last ping” at Buninyong tower?

5/2 Buninyong Search Area declared

21/2 Reported that Specialist units from Melbourne have been assigned to the case

6/3 Arrested at 6am at address?

7/3 Accused charged with murder

It was reported that police had him under surveillance for the fortnight prior to his arrest which imo means he was under surveillance from the 21/2 which is when police announced they had specialists coming to Ballarat to assist in the case.

I’m assuming Sunday he didn’t have to work. He is a 22 year old man who was rumoured to be house sitting with his girlfriend.

So from 8am (incident) to 5pm (phone ping) he really could have been free to go anywhere.

He could tell his parents he was with his girlfriend and his girlfriend he was with his parents.

Perhaps there was an argument with his girlfriend on the Saturday night?

And from Monday did he keep his normal schedule? We don’t know but the police will.

Please correct me on any errors or feel free to make any additions.

All of this is imo, as I do not know the facts of the case and I’m getting this timeline information from various media reports

I was told on the weekend;

He had been on a bender and was assaulting his gf in public
SM witnessed the assault whilst jogging by and tried to intervene
He turned on her.

Seems plausible.

Any idea if he targeted her, or if she was just in the wrong place?

Where can you see the court listing for the 15th of March? How likely is it, that it is the same Patrick? Wouldn't it have been mentioned in the news, they've only ever mentioned the August date.

You really think all shrinks behave ethically?

If that was the case, then his girlfriend would be missing too....

I'm sure there are some who don't. Like any profession/occupation.

But we're talking about a psychiatrist diagnosing an accused murderer for trial.

The prosecution would cross examine the defendant's psychiatrist & likely call on their own psychiatrist to interview the accused & make their own diagnosis. You can't just make up/invent a diagnosis. There is specific criteria to meet.
