Re: Scarlett reported for striking

No, should have hit him harder.

If you are gonna do it, do it properly.

Yeah for a brain fade Punch to the jaw he didn't go very hard.

You going to cop 3 or 4, get in a good one at least

You wonder what Scarlett's teammates will think of him now (didn't they used to think he was a douchebag anyway).

He let Ballantynes gamesmanship get under his skin and probably cost his team the W in a tough away game in Selwood's first game as captain. The hit and resultant goal really galvanized freo imo.

I think the senior players at Geelong would have to be pretty dirty with him, especially as it leaves them short a good defender for next week's big game v hawthorn.

Will it result in the team stumbling and breaking Chapman's vow?

And to say that Ballantyne is 'gutless' and 'wanted to fight Scarlett and lost' is just stupid. His intent was to suck Scarlett in and Scarlett just couldn't help himself, it's smart more than anything. I doubt Ballantyne really wanted to engage in a fist-fight in the middle of Subiaco.

No. Ballantyne is a gutless cheat! I think the mrp will take that into account.

Re: Scarlett reported for striking

Intentional, high contact, low impact. Plus any loading, carry-overs.

As a geelong supporter i'm just glad there is footage of this one, so will make it harder for the MRP to apply the "Geelong loading". Convenient there is no footage of Ballantyne on Chapman. Will he get the Selwood treatment?

Geelong loading - comical. Blaming the victim of an off the ball hit again ay?

As for Ballantyne's diving, if that was a reportable offence, Geelong would not have fielded a side in 5 years.

Re: Scarlett - How many weeks?

One week.

Barely clipped him, was meant to be the chest.

Ballantine should gt fined for diving and dobbing as well.

Sick of players provoking each other then screaming and pointing to the umpire when they cop it in return.

Pretty sure what he meant to do will have absolutely zero bearing on what the tribunal rules.

He'll get the Jake King/Adelaide treatment... the worst will be assumed and he'll get weeks.

Re: Scarlett reported for striking

Ballantyne gets a deserved clip on the jaw ... Scarlet gets a month for stupidity ... win win all round .. I lol'd ..

The amount of bleating from Geelong supporters about staging on here is beyond ironic. If Stevie J wasn't a footballer he'd be over in London in a couple months competing for Australia as an Olympic diver.

Re: Scarlett reported for striking

I'm surprised Scarlett punched him in the jaw, usually he goes with the old kidney shot or dropping his knee into his opponent, not to mention the defenders staple the miss timed spoil.

Or goes for the cheap 'sack tap like he did against Waite(?) last season.

Re: Scarlett reported for striking

If a sling tackle is worth 3, Scarlett should get 15. Punch to the chin which floored his opponent...anything less than intentional/high/medium will be perplexing, but I expect to be perplexed.

Great entertainment though. :thumbsu:

Re: Scarlett reported for striking

regardless of whether he got him good or not, it's a dog shot against a midget.

we've gone past that crap in footy.

Dog shot? What about all the goading that little pr!ck was doing to bring it on... Too bad Scarlett didn't make better connection - might have made Ballantyne think twice about pulling that sh!te he does..... I do agree that this should stuff should be *out* of the game.

Re: Scarlett reported for striking

It wasn't much more than a wristy bitch slap to that serial pest...

Expect him to get Intentional (3), High (2) and Low Impact (1) => 6 activation points => Level 3 offence (striking) => 225 points

He'll get a 10% loading for a previous offence and a 25% reduction for an early plea => 185 points => 1 week holiday

Well, it didn't really floor him. It was a nice little performance by Ballantyne.

Intentional and High Contact are indisputable. Depends on whether contact is deemed Low or Medium Impact. That'll be the difference between it being 1 or 2 weeks. Probably deserves more, and the AFL hate incidents that make the game look bad. But I'll guess at 2 weeks with early plea.

Re: Scarlett reported for striking

Should be six to eight , will get four. (unless he has recent form)

Re: Scarlett reported for striking

Reduced to 2-3 weeks , hardly hit him .

The Umpire noted an incident where Chapman was down for a while , if it was Balla , i reckon Geelong players might squeel on him ;)

Good game , Ross Lyon has made an impact already

Dunno.

For 2012, the Commission approved the following recommendations:

- change to Tribunal guidelines around impact to ensure that any reckless or intentional strikes which are inherently dangerous and/or have the potential to cause serious injury will not be classified as 'low' impact and will be given a higher impact rating than other offences

If the impact is graded as low, the AFL is effectively saying punches to the head below Barry Hall force aren't dangerous. But we all know their interpretations are flexible, depending on the desired outcome.
