Toast Scarlett, Enright and Kelly selected in All-Australian team

Remove this Banner Ad

With Round 24 wrapping up the home and away season it means it's time to talk All-Australian chances.

Is it possible that Geelong may miss out altogether this year? Hard to believe as a 19-3 or 18-4 side.

Not sure if I can find any probables.

My possibles:
- Enright
- S Johnson
- Kelly
- Scarlett
- Selwood

Re: Geelong's All-Australian chances

Enright, Kelly & def Scarlo - what other FB is there that's anywhere near him?!

Selwood would have been a lock if he had of come back with form after his 4 match ban, but he has been too hot and cold to gain selection - I am hoping he is saving his AA form for next week and the 3 after that!! ;)

Re: Geelong's All-Australian chances

I will go fully nuclear if James Kelly is not only listed but starting.

Outstanding year. :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

Other to be included
Joel Corey. - 2009 form :thumbsu::thumbsu:
Corey Enright - enough said.:thumbsu::thumbsu:
Matty Scarlett - justify him NOT being there...

Might get harder from here

Go Catters...

Re: Geelong's All-Australian chances

Depends how they look at games missed through injury/suspension. That could hurt Corey and Selwood.

Kelly and Enright are locks I would have thought. Scarlett a probable.

Re: Geelong's All-Australian chances

Kelly,Enright and Johnson should be certs.Scarlett will be on the fringe simply by reputation [he's had a good year],although has he actually been our best tall defender ?
Selwood missed too many games, plus take into account his Rd 1 game was over in minutes and the couple of weeks after he returned from brushing Yeah Yeahs ear were quiet.

Re: Geelong's All-Australian chances

You guys have had such an even year. When I did my AA team I had a couple, but a team that has gone 19-3/18-4 you would expect at least 3.

SJ should be in. I had Kelly/Enright on the bench.

Re: Geelong's All-Australian chances

At least one of Enright, Scarlo and Kelly will probably get a BP/HBF position and another one might get a starting or bench spot.

There are too many elite midfielders for Kelly to be selected to a starting midfielder spot. If one of Kelly, Selwood or Corey had been clearly our best player they probably would have been selected but they have been pretty even and there have been better midfielders.

Johnson will probably be selected as there is a real dearth of good non-KP forwards atm. AA selectors will be more likely to remember his dominate games than his terrible games and if they want to make sure the Cats get a few selection he is pretty easy to pick.

My guess would be:

Scarlett BP
Kelly or Enright HBF/Bench
Johnson HFF

Re: Geelong's All-Australian chances

kelly has a great year back l cant see him being picked as a mid in front of p'berry, priddis, boyd, gazz, fyfe, mitchell, judd, murphy etc as above prob on bench or HBF either way if kelly and enright make it one will be on the bench maybe even both.

Could be another omen for us if we miss out:

In 1990, Collingwood won the flag. In 1991, Hawthorn were considered too old and too slow, had no players named in the AA side, yet won the premiership.

In 2010, Collingwood won the flag. In 2011, Geelong are considered too old and too slow, and we mightn't have any players named in the AA side. Hopefully history repeats with the last part! ;)

Re: Geelong's All-Australian chances

Enright, Kelly, Johnston Selwood and Scarlett should be in the extended squad. But will they get in final squad?

I'd back Enright on HB, Selwood in midfield and possibly Scarlett on the bench.

Agree, some definite nominations, but this year, zero consistently outstanding. Maybe SJ gets in, but so what? Scarlett DOES NOT play FB.
I'd go for Enright hbf, and Kelly unlucky to miss

Re: Geelong's All-Australian chances

Too many in form mids so Corey will probably miss. He has been great though!

Kelly SHOULD get the nod. I will go f**kin postal if he doesnt.

Boris, Scarlo a lock

SJ either forward or bench

Re: Geelong's All-Australian chances

I recon they'll slide Scarlett or Enright into a back pocket just so we have at least one rep in the team.

Kelly will win our B and F but there's been too many other good midfielders that will get picked.

If I was picking a team I probably wouldn't have any Cats

Re: Geelong's All-Australian chances

SJ no chance, front runner of the highest order. Enright is probably the only one for mine

Re: Geelong's All-Australian chances

Enright, Scarlett and Harry Taylor.

Selwood? Don't make me laugh, terrible year overall, though I suspect he knows his reputation depends on what happens in the first final. Needs to banish the Miss September tag with a best on. I have always felt his poor September form was an anomaly rather than his game.

Re: Geelong's All-Australian chances

Scarlett wont get in. Jamison has him covered, as does Gibson.

Enright might scrape in.
And although I agree that Kelly won't knock the topliners out of the midfield (Judd, Ablett, Murphy, Pendles, Swan, Dal Santo) they'll find a spot for him.

That's about it.

edit: actually H Taylor isn't a bad selection. Who else is standing up as a CHB?

It's funny this has come up as I was trying to think who would have the most brownlow votes right now (we will have plenty of votes) and I couldn't pick a leader.

Re: Geelong's All-Australian chances

Enright and Scarlett should be in the backline.
Kelly would be our only mid who might make it but I think he probably won't.
Johnson is a slight chance with the lack of any great mid and small forwards this year.
Selwood won't make it. Sure he has played some good games but has missed way too much.
Taylor is beaten by Reid and Mcpharlin for CHB

Doesn't matter. Small forward (along with the backup ruckman) is the easiest position to take a spot in the lineup and that is why Steve Johnson is our most likely. No walk-up starts, but I'm sure with 18-19 wins, they'll find a spot for one or two Geelong players. Seeing other supporters whinge about their players who 'have' to make the AA team takes me back five years. I really couldn't care less now.

B: Matthew Scarlett, Luke McPharlin, Leon Davis
HB: Heath Scotland, Ben Reid, Brett Deledio
C: Marc Murphy, Gary Ablett, Dale Thomas
HF: Nat Fyfe, Travis Cloke, Adam Goodes
F: Steven Milne, Lance Franklin, Steve Johnson
R: Dean Cox, Scott Pendlebury, Chris Judd
I/C: Todd Goldstein, Scott Thompson, Sam Mitchell, Nick Dal Santo

Why is there a perception that Selwood is no good in finals?

He was one of only two Cats to receive Norm Smith votes in 2008. He more than played his part in the 2009 Grand Final. He was disappointing in last year's qualifying but bounced back with a BOG performance or close to it the following week.
