Broughton won't leave and I cant see Pearce leaving either.

Suban may be available but I dont think we have many others players available to trade that you would be interested in.

I think Suban is worth more than Gumbleton, so you may need to through in an upgrade some how.

Living in a fantasy land.

Pretty obvious that the Dons are already planning for Daniher and life after Gumby. I'd be very surprised if he stayed with the Dons. I think if he could get himself fit he'd be a good fit at Freo considering he's a West Aussie and Freo don't have many key forwards coming through.

It's a tough one. He's reportedely very popular at the club, so I can't see him walking - not after all the club has done for him. However, if he gets a good offer, he'd have to consider it.

Despite his injury history, I'd be shattered seeing him in opposition colours.

And what is that exactly? You drafted him, he got injured, you paid for his medical and rehab.

Same as any employee of any company in this country. He doesnt owe you jack. You kept him on contract not because you wanted to be nice but because you thought he might come good and give you some return on field. This stuff really annoys me, like the club voluntarily paid for his medical and voluntarily paid the guy just be good citizens. If you didnt think he was worth it you would have cut him without a second thought.

I think this is a relatively win-win trade. Both players fill a void and would be afforded more opportunities.

Gumby strengthens our KPP stocks and Suban gives you a classy ball user. I've said it before but Subes is best suited as an inside mid, has the mongrel and the booming kick to send the ball forward with great effect.

That said, I do have a soft spot for Suban and he too has been cruelled a bit by injury. With some continuity and a consistent role I think he could really be something quite special.

Sure the Dons kept him on because we wanted a return. But the club could have delisted him this time last year and his career would likely be done.

Who would have picked him up last year after undergoing even more back surgery?

I don't mind the idea of Pitt for Gumby. Both fill a need and both are high risk / reward prospects.

Tell me more about Pitt - liked him as a junior but hasn't seemed to kick on. Injury or form reasons?

I am not aware of many other clubs that have shown as much faith in a player than Essendon has with Gumbleton. 6 years, multiple hamstring and back injuries, modest output when played. The club has been EXTREMELY patient and supportive of him the whole way through. If he was to leave to get an extra year on his contract elsewhere, it would be a slap in the face. He should show the same faith in the club, as the club has shown in him. If we hadn't, he would be on the AFL scrap heap. No one would have gone near him with his record of injury.

Has showed glimpses of class, brilliant kick, but needs to develop his inside game. Still far too skinny too which has resulted in him getting pushed off the ball or struggling to stick tackles at times. He probably would have a got more games at Freo but there are quite a few flanker / mids ahead of him in Hill, Pearce, Duffield, Broughton, McPhee, Spurr, Ibbotson, Suban, Roberton, Crighton and Sutcliffe.

or TLDR:

Pro's: Great skills
Con's: Needs to improve his workrate / spend some more time in the gym.

I'd give up our first pick (I think it's 18:confused:) for him, I think he's worth the risk and we would probably just end up ****ing up our first round pick again anyway and landing another diamond in the rough at pick 40 or something.

Far too injury prone to offer a first rounder (they've been good the last 3 years), yet Essendon would be unwilling to accept much less. Hope we make contact with him anyway and suss him out.

With Ryder, Crameri, Hurley, TBC, Daniher and even Carlisle he sits quite far back in a depthy tall forward list. Kicked 10 goals in the 4 games he played forward this year. No doubting if he can put a full season together he kicks at least 30 plus goals.

As others have said, I think a straight swap for Suban would be fair and would probably work well for both teams in terms of need. Pitt hasn't come on and I don't think would be wanted by the Bombers at this stage.

I think the reason the Bombers have only offered the 1 year contract is that a two year contract make him a restricted free agent in two years. By then, he's either finished for playing good footy and can walk for little compensation. Essendon are better off with a trade now or in a years time if he is surplus to needs. Less risk, more reward.

Would Dons fans consider a reunion with McPhee? He has been in very good form all year and wants to head back to Melbourne for family reasons. Could get a couple of years from him as he is in good nick. Would allow Heppell, Melksham or Hibberd to play midfield full time. Would need some steak knives tho.

I know it sounds like Essendon get massively screwed over but in reality they would more likely get more games out of McPhee than Freo would get out of Gumby.

Thanks but no.

urrgggh, why does my mouth taste like vomit?

Subes is a bit pricey for me (but I rate him more than most Freo supporters on BF).

If Essendon weren't into Pitt, preferring a more reliable but less skilled young mid, I wouldn't be horrified if we parted with one of Pearce, Ibbo or Roberton.

All hypotheticals obviosuly. But I'd imagine if we traded for a player, we would want one ready to play their best footy, not a future prospect. Pearce seems to have flourished under Lyons game.

I rate Suban but think he's a bit wasted in the spot we are playing him in. Can't see that changing anytime soon and that's why I see it as a win win trade. Essendon need mids who will at least try hard and have a bit of outside speed last time I checked so I think he would do well. Pearce might suit but I would prefer to keep him.

Gumby doesn't owe Essendon shit. He was a pick #2 FFS, of course they were going to persist with him. Had they delisted him, someone else would've taken a punt.
