Just having a guess
Don't think wandin would really care but would you give up home ground advantage in a game were winner goes straight through

The YJ oval was ruined as well and I doubt any ground would have coped after the rain we had.

Junction was very good, Warby was the best ground in the comp 30 years ago, every other ground has been improved dramatically, Warby is still the same, just not up to modern standards. The change rooms are also poor, the visitors room did not have hot water after reserves game, so not sure how those mud encrusted players in the Seniors went, probably heade off to there own rooms for a nice hot shower.

The league does have to do better, and I am sorry but Warburton cannot host finals any more

Hot water has been a issue at every ground and still is to be fair hasn't been an issue for us this season until Saturday apparently. As for the rooms they are being done up over the summer which will be good as they are one of the remaining older style club rooms.

As for the ground yes it would be nice to get a hand out and have a heap of work done on it but alas we haven't received one as yet. In saying that the ground was fantastic on the Wednesday but the 75mm of rain it copped in three days knocked it around.

Still remains the best ground for atmosphere.

ATTENTION - DERBY 103 - aka STATS GURU

Hi mate, got a question from Sid Snott (right up your alley as well)

We want to know the history of finals played between Monbulk & Olinda Ferny Creek (inc Olinda & Ferny Creek Clubs)

Given the fact we are 2 minutes from each other, and consider each other as "traditional rivals", we think its only 4 finals with the last one being the MDFA Prelim of 1953 which Monbulk won by 4 pts, after the week before was a draw.

We think Olinda on its own never met Monbulk in a final, and that Ferny Creek and Monbulk were 1 win each.

Can you help here ?

Cheers

Tim

Hello Tim (and Steve)

Good luck for the weekend.

Yes, you are quite right. Monbulk kicked a late goal to draw the preliminary final in the rain at Monbulk on 22/8/1953. The next week, a chap called House had a shot to win the replay for Olinda-Ferny Creek but didn't make the distance. Monbulk won 10.14 to 10.10. So, there were seven days between the first and second Monbulk-Olinda FC finals games, and by Saturday there will have been a gap of 22,652 days between the second and third Monbulk-Olinda FC finals matches.

Olinda and Monbulk merged for a season in 1939 and played in two finals as a combined entity.

Ferny Creek and Monbulk split two finals in 1922-23 (as you said), but the excellent Monbulk FC history book tells me that Monbulk played Ferny Creek United in the 1912 grand final. That game was played on the Olinda ground and was won by Monbulk, 5.9 to 5.5 (the scores being very close to exactly half of the 1953 replay scores). The 1910 - 14 period was the only time that the Ferny Creek and Olinda clubs existed simultaneously and played against each other in competition, although they were both included in the 1934 fixture before Ferny Creek folded.

Didnt go to the game but looking at valley vision looks like we have very very different ideas of "Very good considering"

what a disgrace.

edit- Just watching the final quarter cant actually tell whats happening and who is on what team

Yet the umpires got it right! They did a top job in conditions that could easily have seen the game go belly-up!
One of those 'nobody deserved to lose' matches!!

Sad news yesterday as we regretfully advise that well respected and well liked boundary umpire Luke Hollier passed away yesterday. Luke is well known to most clubs (especially his home town of Mt. Evelyn) and recently reached his 200 game milestone a few weeks ago. Luke was never really going to be whisked off to the AFL in a great hurry which was our gain as he was one of those characters who seemed to have a cult following at all his games. He will be a big loss to our umpiring group and indeed the league. Many of our young boundary umpires spent time with Luke learning the basics as football was a big part of Luke's life. Was a tough night on the track last night as I know it is with his family and other friends. RIP Lukey.

Those pics were awesome! Removes the 'athletes' & reintroduces 'footballers' to the contest...hard on the spectators and the umpires (especially if they have to report anyone) but the players still somehow know who is who

Hey Footy, maybe you could post those photos on the aflq big footy forum, might shut them up about wet weather footy up there! Pussy's don't know how good they've got it.

Sorry mate but that isn't football. It was just a crappy mud fight.
Not everyone's cup of tea but I personally remeber showering in full kit at half time during games and going back out to some real tests of character games...you don't want it every week but it can be an extremely galvanising contest for the winning or losing team... not the desired 'regular' spectacle, I would have loved to see that game though.

Mt Ev and Upwey always bog holes

But nothing compares to Sevilles shit heap

How long since you have been to Upwey? We purchased a Super Sopper a few seasons ago and use it regularly to keep our ground in good knick.
