You raise a good point mate, and given the exodus pre-2018 of umpires back to the EFL etc, it leaves us all (and in particular the new umps boss) with a big problem. Not the ideal time to be walking into that job, recruitment is difficult at the best of times. There will need to be new incentives to attract umpires, which will put more pressure on clubs (if you know what I mean)
Southern Umpires Association(in conjunction with AFLSE) are apparently going to have or maybe already have had discussions with Yarra Umpires regarding servicing the Home games of the former SEFNL Clubs.
Have heard that some SUA umps in the SEFNL area are going to SFL!
SEFNL Clubs have had full complement of umpires in all grades for more than a decade, it will be interesting to see how they transition in this regard!
Surely the saving$$ will outweigh the weekly struggle to find volunteers at most former SEFNL clubs!
