apart from the back half of last season, hadn’t he been at Park Orchards for a few years?
He was originally a Mooroolbark junior and then played 118 senior games with Wandin 2011-2016 (key player in their 2015 flag) before joining Park Orchards 2017-18 and Vermont 2019 prior to returning halfway through last year.

For some reason I thought he was at PO for more than 2 years.
iirc his first year at Wandin was 2006 (definitely wasn't at Mooroolbark as he didn't play in our U18 premiership)

You are right about him playing at Wandin U18s in 2006, I just checked a footy record and he is listed there. The League website only goes back to 2009 with player records so didn't pick up on that. The newspaper article must have referred to junior football as U10s or U12s at Mooroolbark. I just remember him being a very good player at Wandin for many years and he will be a loss for them.

I played with him from U11 to bottom age 18s at Mooroolbark (so '99 - '05).
Think he played mostly seniors at Wandin in '06 then Box Hill reserves '07-08, Norwood '09, Croydon '10 then back to Wandin for '11

Agree, Premier division needs 10 clubs and Wandin needs to be one of those teams. If they do struggle next year, as Healesville did this season, then they will drop to Division 1 the following year. They still have a strong core group. It would be unprecedented to allow a club to drop a division after having a 7-9 record and just missing finals.

I have concerns about valley clubs being able to compete with the SE suburban teams, particularly with depth in Reserves, but now that the merger has taken place we need to see it through the teething stages. I am impressed with the way that Woori, Upwey and Olinda have embraced the challenge and Wandin will have to do the same.
If you still regard the glaring issues with what’s happened as “teething” problems then we are looking at vastly different scenarios.
Also “impressed” is not a term I would associate with The current state of any of Wandin/Olinda/Upwey or Woori. They are effectively non competitive below senior grade and are barely competitive there either. The gulf will only become greater in 2020.

Just on Berwick, who's coaching them in 2020?

My mail on Berwick and not sure whether I like it seeing my club will be playing D1 EFNL next season but the votes at the AGM will most likely vote Berwick in this time.If the vote is yes to have Berwick in and the EFNL want to retain a 10 team grade which I like I presume 2 teams from D1 would be relegated at the end of 2020 or the premier of D2 in season 2020 will not be promoted.Lets hope my mail is wrong.

On the contrary, hopefully your mail is 100% correct.
A suburban football club playing in a suburban league. Common sense.

Hopefully they get voted in,they are a well drilled team and not only that, there in very good physical condition...that's why they flogged the yarra valley sides.... division one will be a good starting point for them.

Not sure you would call Berwick a suburban football club but YVMDFL had a great competition before these other clubs from outer east were allowed in and my thoughts are with the old clubs in the YVMDFL competition.

Berwick is a suburb. It’s absolutely a suburban football club, as is Narre Warren and Doveton and Beaconsfield etc. Like I said, it’s common sense.

Is it an Eastern Suburb should be more relevant?
Technically speaking it is a suburb and it is east of Melbourne although it is no longer the Eastern Districts FL but just the Eastern FL. The Eastern FL actually started life as the Croydon and Ferntree Gully League. Berwick is no further out than Balwyn is in from the original catchment.

Coldstream is roughly 38km east of Melbourne (and not suburban), Silvan is 41km (country, the other side of Mt Dandenong), South Belgrave 39km and Berwick is 42km approx.

Surrey Park to Coldstream is a 48min drive (according to Google Maps)
Nunawading to Silvan is 41min
Whitehorse Pioneers to South Belgrave is 41min
Vermont to Berwick is 31min (about the same as Glen Waverley to Chirnside Park at 30min).

About 80 years ago, back in 1939, Berwick were in the same competition as Ferntree Gully, Springvale, Noble Park and Clayton. The roads have improved a bit since WWII.

I think they would be a good fit for the Eastern League.

The EFNL wish list is 5 more teams to have 5 divisions of 10.So lets say they bring in Berwick and how about they approach Wandin,Mt Evelyn,Yarra Glen and even Olinda all ex EFL sides. If this did happen I would not be happy if I was a YVMDL person as the current new structure has stuffed up your good competition.

What exactly is your point? Berwick is a big part of the problem, if they are gone then they are no longer a problem. Hopefully quickly followed by a few more clubs. Not sure the EFL sympathy you are looking for will be found here. You might be on the wrong forum.
