Outer East Football Netball wish to provide the following update on the competition structures for Division One and Division Two for season 2023

Throughout the preseason, the Yea FNC and Outer East Football & Netball have been working together to explore all options for the Yea FNC to field senior football teams in 2023.

Despite their best-efforts, Yea FNC have advised Outer East Football & Netball that they will not be fielding senior men’s football teams in 2023.

More recently, discussions have been held with Yarra Glen FNC in relation to their position in a senior football sense, as they had been experiencing low numbers of footballers on the back of the September 2022 floods, rendering their off-field club facilities unusable for the majority of the first half of the season.

Due to this fact Yarra Glen FNC requested a move from Division 1 to Division 2 for season 2023. This move will involve both senior football and netball programs.

The Yarra Glen FNC’s request has been approved by the Outer East Football & Netball Board and Yarra Glen FNC will fill the position Yea FNC occupied in the Division 2 fixture for the 2023 season.

The transfer of Yarra Glen FNC from Division 1 to Division 2 for the 2023 season now leaves a bye in Division 1.

From a football perspective this means, Yarra Glen FNC will replace Yea FNC in the Division 2 fixture. In Division 1, a slight fixture change will need to occur to fill the place of Yarra Glen in the Football fixture. This alteration will be confirmed once we have consulted all the Division 1 clubs.

From a netball perspective this means Yarra Glen will now field 5 grades of netball in 2023 being A, B, C, D along with 17&U in Division Two. Yea’s Netball teams will play in Division 1, filling the fixture slot left by Yarra Glen. This allows all their Netball teams to remain together on a Saturday, which is important in keeping the club moving forward toward 2024 and beyond. Other fixturing options will also be considered to assist with the extra travel for both existing Division 1 clubs and Yea. These will also be confirmed following consultation with all Division 1 clubs.

The Outer East Football & Netball Board, in considering the Yarra Glen FNC application and the Yea FNC advice, have begun discussions in relation to conducting a complete review of our competition structures and other associated matters for season 2024 and beyond.

Further details of the review will be forthcoming once finalised.

Outer East Football & Netball have committed to support Yea FNC and will work closely with the club to put in place plans to return to field with senior football teams in 2024.

In closing while disappointed we must advise of these changes, we firmly believe that this option will minimise the impact structurally on both Division 1 and Division 2, with a focus overall on the long-term club sustainability of clubs across both divisions.

If it is good for everyone else to travel to Yea, it is good for Hallam.

No one has ever forfeited because they don't want to travel there. If Hallam don't like it, they can forfeit and be held to ridicule.

I know of 2 junior teams (won't name them) who chose not to travel to Yea a few years ago when they fielded an U14 girls team. Both teams did the maths and realised they wouldn't lose ladder position if they forfeited and saved all the other parents a long trip. Was disappointing because it wasn't really in the spirit of kids sport.

No reserves. Powelltown lost by 8 goals.
Your not bad aren’t you flog, who’s next on your list to attack, you started with the league, moved on to Yea and Broadford then started on Yarra Glen now you have Powelltown in your sights, you’ll not be happy till we all have to merge like the cricket league had to, your nothing but a parasite preying on everyone, do us all a favour and don’t post you flog

Legend of the field pretty harsh on ChristianBoy
Don’t think he has ever wanted any team not to be part of the league.
Think he has called as he has seen or heard, Yea was never going to play.
Not sure he has ever really mentioned Broadford and stated that Yarra Glen were struggling for numbers, which has proven to be true.

So is his information about Powelly not having enough numbers to field a 2’s side today?
If so that’s a massive concern seeing how many players they brought in over last few years, are the locals over not playing due to imports?

Powelltown struggled to field a reserves all last year and didn’t win a game in the 2nds till about round 9 they have a population of around 150 and been bringing players in for the last 30 years to keep their reserves playing nothings changed just the flogs like him who say they play in the league potting everyone they can to put unsubstantiated doubt on the league and everything that’s made it great for the last 30 years, is a flog will always be one and that’s the truth

If you read any of my posts my concern re the league has been the survival of traditional YV clubs. The five team comp only jeopardised Powelltown Warburton and Yarra Junction. All of which have to soldier the burden of travel while trying to retain and recruit players.

Legend of the field maybe it’s the blokes who have sticker by the club and then being over looked for finals stop playing and then it all drops away.
Must be frustrating for those that due bust their arses and then get moved to the side with all of the recruits that have to be brought in for the club to survive, it’s a fine balance?

So why didn’t they have enough for the 2’s today and will they have enough for the season?
