I laugh but also find it incomprehensible some of the stuff I read on this forum re: admin and the league. First it was the head-to-head outcomes if ladder positions are tied, now an umpires boss jumping on the ground to chase a player with a card and who could forget last year fixturing 3 divisions when there was only 21 teams in the competition including putting in Kinglake who had notified the league the year before they had left. I’m not from this league but do follow it and have attended games in the past. It used to be good but now I would say it would be close to the worst ran league in the state!

It very much a case the more the clubs pay the less they get these days. Far more admin at HQ than ever before for far less return.

Too quick, talented, and polished the dogs today. Woori looked clunky, old and without answers to be honest. Next week will be interesting, one game in a month for NW and a few sore boys is the whisper at Officer today.

Forever gracious in victory are Wandin.

Never change.

Not sure about Greenwood, but pretty sure Edward’s played with Simon Gordon in a masters comp somewhere.

Greenwood is good friends with a couple of people involved at Healesville. Edwards does know Simon Gordon. Both will be there in 2025 I am informed too. Congratulations to Healesville FNC on their premiership win.

Saturday’s umpiring, again with the ear pieces was an absolute joke. The umpiring situation is a debacle. 😒

Haven’t heard anything positive about the whole set up. An umpires boss that believes any body contact is a free, down field and at times a yellow.

Another embarrassing MRO decision with the young Wandin player getting handed 2 weeks. Shouldn’t have even been sent off let alone a sanction. Entering a melee and you miss a Grand Final.
Total clean out required.

The problem is the league think they have had a brilliant year.
If the umpires boss hangs around there will be no umpires left.

They are miles off the mark. Seville player given 5 weeks with nothing but grainy footage to go off. No engagement with the players involved or the clubs. They then get told it was an accidental head clash and they are almost disappointed.

No shock that the Wandin player was last night cleared. Embarrassing that an head umpire from another league gave evidence that made AFLOE mro and umpires look stupid.

Can you elaborate on this? Why would an umpire from another league be involved?

As an impartial spectator today and it was really disappointing to see the quality of umpiring. Two quality sides in a GF and if that’s the best we have then we are in trouble. Shoulders was atrocious and the 11yr kid shouldn’t have been in that situation.

Disappointing that clubs work their guts out all year and that’s the umpiring dished up. Someone needs to instruct them for starters that not every tackle when a player goes to ground is a sling.

I’m sorry but the state of umpiring is best described by a 15yo with limited experience umpiring the senior grand final. Good luck to him in getting the game but he realistically has umpired one year of senior football. Whilst we have all discussed the virtues of the senior coach (no need to go back there) surely a teenager needs more time to develop and gain experience to be appointed to these games. Exposing him to that level at a young age may see him walk away from umpiring for good due to a bad experience. That’s not good coaching or development.

Umpiring is in trouble everywhere unfortunately. It is a tireless and thankless task and they work in a primarily negative environment and they are realistically never correct. It is easy to ‘bag’ them but rarely people come up with a solution. The poor quality of coaches everywhere is due to many not wanting to do the job due to the time commitment, constant criticism and poor remuneration. I know of a number of really good people who would do the jobs if the conditions were better.

Why can clubs pay players a fortune and often way above market rate (and ability) but scream when an increase in wages for umpires/ better coaches is suggested. Then they complain incessantly about having to pay more to their respective leagues to try and improve the situation. What then happens is the loudest/ majority wins and umpiring continues to suffer the same issues.

This is not just an Outer East situation, it is everywhere. I am told the umpiring in the Eastern premier grand final was poor too.
