SEASON 2025

I think the days of clubs dictating to EFNL clubs where they want to start are over given the issues with the entry of clubs recently and the re-jigging of the competition structure that it prompted.

Prospective clubs that nominate a division publicly in the future would probably get a cool reception and a likely rejection, with very few 'yes' votes from Division 1, 2 and 3 clubs as they are the most affected in these cases.

Having been back at EFL past 2 years I can see they would be a good match in D3. Also means they would travel to Fair Park, FTG, UFTG, Knox, Scoresby and Silvan. Good opportunity to start some rivalry rounds in the future. Another reason I think the league would be keen on grabbing Belgrave as well.

If I’m Belgrave it would be a no brainer to be playing these clubs and your local rival.

Hypothetically if Pakenham leave then Belgrave are the odd ones out in Div 1. All the other clubs are an hour plus away from them except Seville who are every chance to be promoted next year.

I think you’ll find they’ve already been told their starting point and it was stipulated it’ll be a couple of rungs lower than Div 2…….
Don't believe that's correct. Have it on pretty good authority that the EFNL has asked them to go div 2, and Upwey were sussing whether to go div 2 or 3. Only reason they'd go div 3 would be the rivalries. But im quite confident it will be div 2 they will go to.

Agree, they would pants sides like Silvan. Div 2 would be a good fit to start and then find their level from there on. Might also start others on the boundary looking at options as the outlook in this competition doesn’t fill you with any confidence or optimism.

Interesting to see the ad for Umpire Coaches on the league Facebook page. I'm definitely armchair expert status having being childishly culled from the YRUA Facebook page the night I announced myself moving back to EFNL but that's another story. The people who I still speak with all tend to agree that someone was lined up when the previous incumbent was called in for tea and bikkies. The Assoc president had even said to people to expect an announcement very soon. The fact that a month has gone by and pre-season is only about 5 weeks away - and that a plea has now gone out for all coaches, I'm wondering whether the next in line has got cold feet at last minute? Usual process would be to appoint the new person and then have them form their own coaching panel. The fact that league have now advertised for all positions makes me wonder whether Plan B is in action??

Woori Yallock -

OUT: Bailey Syswerda (The Basin), Kynan French (Lilydale), Joshua Neal (Mooroolbark), Baylin Spencer (South Croydon), Jak Ryan (Mooroolbark), Mason O’Neill (Seville), Jake Calvert ( Doveton)

Thats a lot of outs, I know they've obviously bought in another Monkhorst but it seems like Woori have had a terrible off season unless they've recruited players and haven't mentioned it on socials..

I thought with Easter being later this year the league might have considered some teams playing on Easter Saturday. I’m sure some teams in tourist towns such as Healesville and Warburton would pull a big crowd. I see Warburton play round 1 5th of April have a bye round 2 on the 12th then Easter weekend so they play 1 game in 3 weeks.

Pigs, Mt Eve, Belgrave getting a Vets up. Pigs have already talked to EFNL, if only netball changed to Saturday would be a smart move for most valley clubs. Outer East hanging by a thread

From my sources Belgrave aren’t interested in any way shape or form participating in AFL OE vets if they get it up and are going EFNL.

100% correct

Outer East need to pull the pin sooner rather than later. They are stopping clubs from trying to grow and improve . At the end of the day you have to look at the demographic of Vets players. EFNL play Friday nights which for young Dad’s is perfect after Auskick. They then get the weekend for kids sports and to themselves.

OE would be best spent managing their core business rather that spending time on a vets competition.
Would be nice to review the strategic plan that they put in place 3-5 years ago and reflect on how far a miss they are from what they set out to achieve. Assuming that one’s been binned so eager to see what the next plan looks like if it fact there is one.

Which current clubs are getting relegated to Div 3 and Div 4 to make room for them in Div 2?

EFNL clubs have just been through a big divisional shakeup to allow Berwick and Beaconsfield in. It cost Croydon their spot in D1 and Park Orchards their spot in Premier. And as both will tell you, it is very hard to get out of those grades and back up, it’s extremely competitive.

I think Bulleen and the Ashwood rumours were both D4 entries for a reason - the clubs are over this shit of handing their spots to new clubs.

Well with Nunawading and Forest Hill potentially folding, there would need to be a fair shake up anyway to try and fix division 4.

There are more than the two aforementioned clubs that are in trouble at the moment with poor numbers, struggling to form committees and low volunteer numbers. As mentioned, the EFNL focus on expansion and bringing in new clubs (who in my opinion should never have been allowed) and not on the health of long standing member clubs is now seeing some of these in vulnerable positions.

This is not a League decision. The Clubs could have requested to play games at Easter but chose not to. Logically it would be hard to fill teams and get volunteers to "work" over Easter. Games in some tourist areas are gangbusters, massive crowds (MPFNL in particular). Worth considering but clubs, not the League need to initiate

League in panic stations about Upwey from all reports
They should be. This will be the start of other Valley teams thinking about where is best foe there clubs future too. Outer East league has shot itself in the foot with the merge of the 2 leagues, ruined its rep as a quality league and now loyal clubs like Upwey want to move on and I'd imagine a couple others will look to follow suit soon enough as well

Mt Ev were in discussions about 2 years ago. Belgrave and Upwey both have itchy feet.
Demographically besides Upwey, the only teams I'd imagine that the EFNL would let in due to being close enough to other teams in the league would be Mt Ev and also Belgrave. Otherwise, it's going to be a tough ask for any other clubs to try move over if they want to because they're just too far from the teams to justify coming over I would have thought. Really sad because I do love this league and don't want to see teams leave, but ive been apart of recruiting for a club here and it does make it a tough sell to get quality players over sometimes due to the failure of the merge being a success.

Those clubs would probably point at Silvan as a reason they should be let in though.

Valid point. I guess it just depends on where the EFNL would decide to draw the line in the sand. I imagine all the clubs would start voting no once the league gets the desired amount of teams. Can't see them saying yes to the likes of drives such as Woori yallock, Healesville etc.
