For BBQ shapes, I think they've altered the current 'original' flavour recipe from the original 'original' flavour recipe to make it less palatable so people move to the 'new' flavour.

You know, I tend to agree. I've got no evidence though. I've heard you can buy a 1kg mixed bag of just the seasoning for $1000 from the factory.
