The Road so far:
Second Qualifying Final - West Coast Wonders 13.10.88 defeated Fighting Furies 11.7.73
Second Elimination Final - Ophidian Old Boys 12.13.85 defeated Dragons FFC 8.5.53
OOB

First up, let’s take a look at the away team. Coming into this final series, the Old Boys finished on 36 points, with 9 wins and 7 losses and a 98.7 percentage that should have certainly been healthier. However, with 5 wins on the trot heading into finals, the Ophidian Old Boys are certainly a team that the others don’t want to see in this year’s finals race. The Ophidians made sure to assert their home ground dominance over the Dragons in Week 1, rushing out to a 31-14 lead at quarter time and never really letting the dragons back in, leading at every change and running out 32-point winners, courtesy of some @Elton John’s Wig magic.

The Ophidians come into this season desperate for some finals success, with a litany of off-field drama hampering their last few weeks in the SFA. Credit where it's due, the side managed to put drama aside on game day, continuing to show that the roster is chock full of talent and can beat anyone in the league, on any given Sunday. Any sort of finals success will quell talk about folding the club (for now) and who knows, may open the door to reconciliation between arguing parties. Who in their right mind would leave a team that just won a flag anyways? Wosh

FURIES

Now, for the home team. The mighty Fighting Furies. Finishing with a flurry in S35, the Furies won their last 3 games and had the best percentage in the league (118.1%) bar one team, their eventual conquerors last week in the West Coast Wonders. While some tried to argue the Furies are the North Melbourne of the SFA, they have put the doubters to shame, winning 10 games and locking away the precious double chance. After being within striking distance and then letting the Wonders kick 7 goals to 1 in the penultimate quarter last week, the Furies get to travel back to the hippodrome and will aim to play the free flowing, high scoring football they love best.

This team knows how to kick scores, and big ones at that. Expect Shueygod and crazywildhorse to link up and don't count the dangers or not marking up on Pickitt and SplintWhisky. In a different way, the Furies have also been maligned for many a season, yet under new and maturing leadership, the list, their quality and performances continue to grow. Some might say the loser or this game should FOLD (not me, of course) but in this match-up we may very well be looking at the start of two teams who plan on being relevant at this of year for some seasons to come.

Last Time They Played

Fighting Furies 20.11 (131)
defeated Ophidian Old Boys FFC 9.6 (60)
Weather: WARM

PLAYERS TO WATCH:

Fighting Furies: Sab22
Ophidian Old Boys: <none>

This game shaped as a season setting match for both these clubs, with the Furies (3-3) having had their bye and looking to build momentum at home against the Old Boys (3-4). The Furies were able to get off to their now patented fast starts, built off the back of some quality scores from turnovers as the Ophidians struggled with the rebound capability of the young Furies. With a 34 point deficit at half time, Turbo threw some magnets around the room but it made little difference, as the Furies would pile on 3 goals to 2 in the third, and then a whopping 7 goals to 2 in the last, to comfortable run out 71 point winners. JyeDye was unstoppable with 5 goals and combined with omgfridge for 13 tackles in the game. The OOB hopefully won't be seeing ghosts when they visit here for a second time this season and can make this edition more competitive.

Key Matchups

natural disaster v @Elton John's Wig - No one needs to give either of these two massive ego's a boost, so let's keep it simple. Despite the huge outing last week, in their previous matchup, ND simply stomped EJW. We shall see what Round 2 gives us.
  • In a resume-material performance, NaturalDisaster was easily the winner in the clash with Elton Johns Wig. - 50m from 0 to 50.
ShaunDuggan v BRAB - Last time out, BRAB was his pesky self, matching up with Scythe94 and easily having his measure. Although the Furies outlets to goal are many, this shapes as a key matchup if the OOB are to keep the Furies from scoring at will.

James Colorado v kenneyswarriors - In their last meeting in Round 8, kenney had the displeasure of playing on ND and, at times, had him well held. This is a match-up you could expect the OOB to deploy again, although ND v EJW is the more likely scenario, anything is possible over the entire length of the Qootball game.

Frederico_WA v Robertio - Easily the MUOTR (Match-up of the Round). Fred wasn't playing in this last match but has added a layer of depth in the middle that will be a fascinating watch. Robertio and Ligma have been confidently going about tag-teaming people like they enjoy doing this season, but Expect some pushback on that front from the Bovo-Freddy duo, as they aim to win those center clearances and make sure that Qooty camps in their front half.

If you had any other plans to be elsewhere this weekend, cancel them. This game shapes as a cracker from the bounce. The OOB play hard, tough and competitive footy, winning it on the outside and forcing teams to play to their style as they patiently build up and deliver. The Furies, will make you pay on the counter, young and quick, they'll run over, under or just straight ******* through you and keep on going. It will be a finals game that will stay in the memory bank for a long time, even if Bonz has lost a step. Make sure you sign in with your QR code to get your gameday face paint and really show your true colours!

Game Prediction: Fighting Furies by 12 points sorry Mobbs

Captains, teamsheets in by Thursday 11:59 or philreich and I will submit them incorrectly for you
Edit the apostophe out of Johns and my tag might work, you doofus. (nice OP)

You deserve it, trying to subject the rest of us to that rubbish.

There's a reason I call my Spotify mix the Bi-Polar Bear Hits.

From Slipknot to Dua Lipa and Elton John to Falling in Reverse, I don't discriminate.

Much.

**** country music.

Gotta be honest ... there may be a camp tent setting up in my front half if I get tag-teamed by Robertio and Ligma

Between Finals, Gather round and a couple of times during the season, it feels like we've spent half the year with this mob.

Can't wait to be lectured over moisturiser again
And stay off the lawn
