When I was a kid (1978) (true story) I did an Elvis impression as part of my school's talent show. I told the school I did a pretty good Elvis impression and they never even checked if I actually could.

When they announced my turn, I walked out to the centre of the stage and lay on the floor with my eyes closed. (Elvis was dead, so it was pretty f**king accurate.)

Everyone laughed, then they started really laughing, but I couldn't see what was happening, a deputy principal had come out on the stage all upset and grabbed me by the hair and dragged me off the stage by my hair saying "NOT FUNNY"

Apparently he was a big Elvis fan and too soon springs to mind.
The audience thought it was part of the act.
