I pay out Sydney because I lived there for 18 years but, yes, the train from the airport was a massive improvement.

That said, there was something remarkably folksy about catching the SunBus from Tullamarine to the city. The first (and only) time I did it I found it quite enjoyable. It was also a Good Friday, so there was not a lot of traffic around.
