This was real staging.

Joe Daniher, Brisbane Lions, has been charged with Staging, during the second quarter of the Round 15 match between the Brisbane Lions and Geelong Cats, played The Gabba on Thursday, June 24, 2021.

In summary, he can accept a $1000 sanction with an early plea.

The one constant with all these incidents is poor umpiring.

Hope it's not the case on the weekend. I'm confident it won't be.

Might be a radical view(and it wont happen) but if Harris and Darcy are playing injured and it manifested in the way they played last week I'd be leaving them out and selecting fit players, which would result in total changes something like this >

Outs- Harris Andrews(inj), Darcy Gardiner(inj), Daniel McStay(conc), Tom Fullarton(omit), Nakia Cockatoo(managed), Grant Birchall(omit).

Ins- Jack Payne, Ryan Lester, Connor Ballenden, Callum Ah Chee, Dev Robertson, Tom Berry.

Ryan Lester, Jack Payne, Brandon Starcevich.
Daniel Rich, Marcus Adams, Keidean Coleman.

Oscar McInerney, Jarryd Lyons, Lachie Neale.
Hugh McCluggage, Zac Bailey, Dayne Zorko.

Charlie Cameron, Connor Ballenden, Lincoln McCarthy.
Tom Berry, Joe Daniher, Callum Ah Chee.

Jaxon Prior, Mitch Robinson, Dev Robertson, Jarrod Berry.

O rucked 90% of the game last week so he is carrying much of the load anyway, Fullarton offering very little.. Ballenden should be able to cover his role quite easily, if we want to play someone who could be able to play as a 3rd tall I'd go McFadyen in for Prior.

Bringing in four players with less than 15 games experience for a semi final would terrify me.

In all honesty I’d take Gardiner/Andrews at 70% if that’s what we can get them at.

Replacing them with much weaker defenders against the Western Bulldogs would result in a 50+ Point loss. No debate.

Yer probably and as I said it wont happen... I just think if Harris and Darcy are as down again against the Dogs to the level they were last week we are no chance, plenty of players play injured but if it is affecting your form as much as it appeared to v Demons you're IMO better off with players who can at least play with intensity and pressure.

If we have an Andrews and Gardiner of last week I'd take a fully fit Payne and Lester every day of the week.

A mental reset for Andrews will do fine. He won't be at his best but even that is great. As long as he covers the fundamentals. Adams has stepped up at the right time so Gardiner off a bit can be covered there. The problem is Naughton is a good mark. His reach calls for Andrews, but if he is just going to let him run it won't be good. I forget the height of players Adams has been playing on recently.

Hopefully, too, Lyons and Zorko (and Berry?) will be more attacking in the mid. And if Neale and Big O bring their same level of game play that should be good.

Tackle hard, work for each other in the forward line, and be steady in the backline and I reckon we can win it. The boys will be angry at themselves and wanting to show us that they deserve to be there. Lets hope they can :)

Hmmmm.... against Naughton? I mentioned the 'reach factor' the other day. Andrews has had his hands full with him every time they've played. I really don't think anyone else on our list would come close to stopping him - at least Harro will give us a competitive chance.

Love Harris but he along with Darcy were ordinary last week, both looked slow and almost disinterested, that Harris would get slaughtered by Naughton IMO... also how deflating would it be to see Schache kick a few on him if he went to him and Adams took Naughton.

Fully expect Harris and Darcy to play so likely a moot point anyway.

...but that's just it, he wasn't very competitive at all, which is the concern.

I think in an ideal world, Andrews would have had another week or two rest. Warmer weather + home game might lift his spirits and help him feel a little better? I think he was struggling with some mental demons last week as much as he was physically.

There's merit in the discussion of Lester and Payne for Harris and Dizzy, both looked abysmal last week. Dizzy's been down since coming back and Harris has been up and down this year but still hit great heights. I have not seen him play like that for maybe three years. His positioning was so poor. He likes to play in front but he gave so much space and he simply didn't adjust either. It was really strange. Didn't help that it was one way traffic in the second quarter and there was no pressure up field.

I'd still back them to turn it around though. Neither would be happy with how they played. I think our hands might be tied. Unless Harris absolutely is not fit enough to play we really don't have another defensive match up for English. With no Harris Payne would be our best option for English and even with strong body work that height difference would be an exploitable match up for the Dogs.

Adams far and away our best option for Naughton but also our best option to fill in for McStay. I'd back Adams and Gardiner to turn their form around, Payne gets first shot on Naughton but if he gets off the chain we swing Adams back and put Payne or Lester forward. Robertson in for Prior to add a bit more tackling pressure

Starcevich - Andrews - Gardiner
Rich - Payne - Coleman
Berry - Neale - McCluggage
Bailey - Daniher - McCarthy
Cameron - Adams - Fullarton
McInerney - Lyons - Zorko
Lester - Robinson - Cockatoo - Robertson

Out: McStay (Concussion), Birchall (Knee), Prior (Omitted), Mathieson (Omitted)
In: Lester, Payne, Robertson

Especially when they haven’t played a competition game for 4 weeks .

Just checked the ticketmaster site and you can now go through the map and there is a multitude of seats lower tear inside the 50's.
Better off just getting the tickets when it goes off the members prority onto general public.
Totally wrong if you ask me.
I tried to get tickets there and kept getting too far back.
Live and learn I guess.
So much for these tech heads of the world , morons.
Just having a b*tch about the system, but at least I stuck it up them with cheap seats, they would of got another $80 off me if my prefered seats/sections were available.
I am glad to have a seat but it doesn’t seem like too much to ask for members to be able to view a seat map when purchasing

I expect Andrews to play, but been saying since Sunday unless there is a massive improvement with Gardiners injury I would bring in Payne, but Lester appears to be in. I know others disagree but In his last game against the Hawkes, apart from a silly 15m attempted kick to Andrews, and the pass to Linc in the final quarter when taking on the corridor, I thought Payne was reasonable against the Hawkes. Twenty something disposals and he came on and played the last quarter with a knee injury that kept him out for the next few games. Slap him around a bit in the sheds and fire him up, he seems pretty robust.

Lester has previously played forward at AFL level so he could play forward, and maybe could lockdown Bailey Dale, with Payne replacing Gardiner.

A poster mentioned Tom Berry to put pressure on Daniels and shut down some of their run, I like that idea, don't think Cockatoo is fit enough yet.

I agree with everything except I think Gardiner will be out (injured) and Birchall is selected (I probably wouldn't select him but hope he has a big game)

If Harris and Darce play the same as they did last week you wouldn't want them in any match . Fagan in his presser made out the forward entries were too much ,they're proud guys, yadda yadda , they'll come out fighting.

Even my missus who doesn't know a goalpost from a point post said what's wrong with that ( those ) player a few times. They obviously weren't right. You'd think we're doing all we can to get one or both up for this week . If it's not a huge injury issue then it's just an aberration. If it is then we've got problems.

Which of the 4 free kicks did Weightman actually stage for?

I dont think him staging (though he did for a couple) is the major issue, they were mostly just wrong.

The Draper one where he headbutted his shoulder was not a free.

The head high was probably there but they get let go more often than not, he ducked and did the arm shrugg thing Matho style.

The holding was arguably there, but he was falling back into the Dons defender who's arm partially wrapped around his waist incidentally for a split second, 50/50.

The the one over the boundary line was a joke.

Maybe you pay 1 or 2 of those, maybe. Charlie, would be lucky to get 1 of those frees.

In a final, in the rain, in front of goals.. it was an absolute farce, it was comical how many times the whistle went off with soft call after soft call.

They got a procession of frees againts us in Ballarat in the first half earlier in the year, I think the got 4-5 goals directly from frees - several were dubious. I was there and even Doggies fans were laughing with me at how good they got it. It became a running joke on the hill.

It is a genuine concern going into the game just how good of a run they will get, it will be a factor no doubt.

I also don't think umpires "favour' them, they just play an active style that draws frees and.. I reckon umps get a bit caught up in the whole 'young Doggies' hype.

Down and out in Melbourne checking out the Ticketmaster site and seeing all the great seats I could get - whacking them into my cart and then deleting them when reality sets in. Good luck to all you fabo supporters who get to go - wish it was me. Hope we bring in Payne as I think he brings some size and can use his body strength and experience more than Ballenden. Everyone says finals football has a different feel and goes up several notches -so having less experience for a major role is tricky if we choose him I think. Will be watching and cheering and wishing and hoping. Go lions!

I'll cheer extra loud for you Lachie.

Feeling embarrassed about my ticketing rants when it's clearly a third world? Third state? problem.

Covid sucks, I want the world to go back to what it used to be the years ago.

Stay safe, there will be a return to a functional and fun life. And we will look forward to hearing your stories of embracing the fun.

It appears the Brisbane Public might have given up on the lions and written them off.
There is still a crap load of tickets left.

The dogs fanbase can't travel - would be very hard to sell a game like this out.

Seriously? What mental demons could he possibly be having in a high stake QF final with preliminary final berth on the line?

Plus the price increase for finals rules out a lot of the casual fans - they're usually made up for by the travellers.
