Thanks for the advice, i wasn't being personal i was attacking the argument as its stupid. 3 kicks, 30 kicks doesn't make a difference now does it?

If you call a person's argument stupid, you call that person stupid unless you take pains to say otherwise, which you didn't. Poor form.

Besides Jeans and Blight's short rein - when did Saints have a coach who had won a premiership as a coach at another team?

Reckon positive with McPhee is that he's such outstanding development coach, so with such young list he can really develop the kids into what he wants (if that makes sense). He's more or less doing this in VFL and with his time at Saints now anyway.

Develop players/gameplan/coach and everyone be on same page once 2015/2016 comes when we are ready to attack premiership again.

Also think fact he's coached his own side in WAFL & VFL puts him ahead of alot other people. Whilst the jump might be seen as big, I dont think its that much when you consider how many assistant coaches have never coached their own side.

Exactly my point. We are in a development and rebuilding stage McPhee has the experience in developing players which he has been doing in the VFL. Also has a proven record of success in the WAFL.

Personally would prefer our next senior coach to have been successful coaching their own team then an assistant who has never sat in the hot seat themselves.

McPhee was a bit of a nobody when he got the Claremont Colts job. When Claremont imploded under Roger Kerr (Daniel's dad) no one imagined they'd appoint the under-19s coach to the senior job. But they did, and they won premierships. He might no be the rank outsider that people imagine, he clearly has form for interviewing well and coming from the back of the field.
As Brendan McCartney has showed at the Bulldogs its about coaching ability not high profiles that are important. McPhee has shown he has coaching ability even though he may be the rank outsider.

I heard that Choco is after 5 years, with the Saints pushing for 3. He is happy to accept this, provided the club increases the salary.

Time to go cap in hand to AFL HQ. There's no way we can afford to sign a coach on for such a long period of time as 5 years.

Do a deal for 4 years...

The more I think about it the more I really see McPhee as perfect fit for where we are at. Bonus is he already has such strong connection to everyone as he's coached 90% of them.

Be interesting if Williams overplays his hand on the money, or contract length issues and he misses what may be his last chance for a senior position. If this is true maybe the passion isn't quite as strong as we have been led to believe.

Exploiting us a bit because he knows we're between a rock and hard place, having sacked Watters so late? To be honest, there's not really much we can do about it.

this. theres a high probability its career suicide for a coach to take the saints right now

I have been thinking about who we need to coach us quite a bit (surprise surprise) l got up this morning and it was crystal clear.
I remembered before Choco won the flag at the Power he had about a 2 year feud with "Allan Scott you were wrong" a sponsor who was reported to be tipping in about 5 mill a year.
He won the battle and then the flag so his ability to play the politics and coach the side is exactly what is required right now.
l hope the Adam Kingsley thing is not about finances as going for a cheaper option is will be false economy.
Choco will be worth every bit of the reported 600k and l am now well and truly the Choco Bandwagon.

Not entirely correct. To my recollection, Scott made the comment post 2003, so the "feud" lasted one year til choco's "you were wrong" at the Grand Final, and to say he won the battle, when what actually happened is that Scott's started winding down their sponsorship despite us just winning the flag, led to our revolving door of sponsors that went for 4 to 5 years and our dire financial position in 2011. Choco plays politics about as well as Joseph Stalin

Also no one blames Choco, more our incompetent board members, but the contract fiasco of 2009 and the "parting ways" less than a year later also left Port in a financial hole. Do not cave to his salary demands.

Will we end up like Brisbane, if Choco walks out?

Currently Chocko vs no-one.

They're gonna interview 2 further current AFL assistants but they are not Rob Harvey, Ratten, Richardson, Goodwin, Tudor or Burns - but who's left?
Michael Gleeson's article in today's Age says we've interviewed Williams, Kingsley and McPhee, but that there is one final pair to go, who are both current assistant coaches. He then rules out Rob Harvey, Richardson, Goodwin, Tudor, Ratten, Burns, Voss and Eade; so who the hell are the other two?
I understand Crocker is one of the other two?!

Hiring McPhee would mean that there would be big wraps on him, the club would be well aware of its image at the moment and would want to make its choice as next coach the best possible decision it can.

Hiring McPhee would be interesting because we fired our coach due to the review of the football department. If we are then going to hire someone internally to be coach it would suggest that the review really rated what McPhee was doing as his job as development/with Sandy. And then to beat out Choco for the job would further elevate his standing to the club.

And I don't buy that he will be a 'yes' man because he has never been a senior assistant coach or coach at the AFL level, his previous experience means nothing on his character.

Mate, this is the big leagues, Macca is a way off it yet IMO, especially where we are at in other areas of the club. I think it's too big an ask for him whereas Choco has a big personality and loves the limelight and will eat up turning the Saints into a force again.
