Choco has a big personality and loves the limelight and will eat up turning the Saints into a force again.
Have been reading about the pros & cons for different applicants including a couple of guys that I thought may be ok, but the above paragraph says it all. We need Choco for his coaching ability, personality & to get us back in the limelight for all the right reasons winning.

I think this issue with Pelchen & coaches to be totally overstated. While his departure from Hawthorn is still unclear, from what I understand it had more to do with the Hawks re-structuring their footy department & his responsibilities being cut back (& his salary along with it). Put yourself in that situation... would you walk?

CP stated during the Member's night presentation that he left Hawthorn & was approached by Nettlefold some weeks later.

The Lyon departure has now been re-written as he & CP could not work together, despite many of us accepting that the combination of Ross' precarious personal finances & a offer from Freo that he couldn't refuse. He of course also saw the much quoted 'end of an era' & was probably frustrated with the board holding out on an extension when he wanted it (at the start of 2011).

Whether RL & CP saw eye to eye with List Management issues & both were on board with what needed to be done is a mystery. I don't buy the 'Seaford isnt big enough for the two of them' or CP ran him out of town thinking.

As for Watters... well who really knows. By the sounds of the mail coming out of Seaford though, there was numerous staff that had issues with SW other than CP. It's obvious that they couldn't work together... who's fault is that? Probably 50/50.

So all this hand grinding about needing a coach that will purely be Pelchen's monkey boy is ridiculous IMO. To me the issue with SW was that he overstepped the boundary of what his job description was; to coach & develop the list. I think Nettles' quote about hiring Watters for his holistic approach more referred to how they wanted him to develop kids in the academy, both as footballers & people. They didn't want him to be sticking his nose is in areas that were not his domain.

Every man & his dog gives Geelong a wrap for the infamous 2006 review that saw Bomber survive by the skin of his fishlips & have his responsibilities cut back to what he should be doing... coaching. They got Balme in to run footy ops, Wells recruited & Thompson coached. A simple structure that was held in place by a very very strong CEO.

IMO we have a number of very key people in position already. I'm impressed with Summers (despite the much criticised press conference), I obviously rate Pelchen exceptionally highly as Head of Football, Trout & his recruiting department have done a fantastic job in the last few years with mid & late picks, & have some great development coaches that are fast tracking the development of our kids.

I am exceptionally excited with the impending appointment of Choco... he was my pick when RL left. An experienced, strong & respected coach who has the runs on the board to pull this club back together.

And of course the most vital appoinment for the club in a long long time... a CEO.

Can we get Andy D to ask Briza Cook if he would rather live in Portsea? It's a quick run up Peninsula link to Seaford from the playground of the rich.

Get excited kids... get your St Kilda supporting mates excited too. Get them to dig into their pockets & sign up now.

One thing is for sure, if you love St Kilda then the club needs everyone on board now more than ever.[/quote

Well considered and great post. Can't drive forward looking in the rear view mirror.

Not sure how I feel about that
I feel bloody great about; if he's as popular with the kids as he is rumoured to be, and can still be brusque and authoritarian like that where necessary then he's our man!

The reason I ask is when both clubs part way, will McPhee continue with Sandy or coach the Saints side
McPhee is a St Kilda development coach. He is the Sandy coach because that is the way that alignments work (and it's WHY they don't, but that's a story for another thread).

Judging by what happened when Richmond and Footscray dissolved their agreements with Coburg and Williamstown, the coaches of the VFL sides will leave along with the AFL clubs contracted players.

The committee selecting the new coach need to make sure they don't lose their heads like 14 years old girls at a Dumb Direction concert, the only reason we got stuck with Watters is that he pulled out the bells and whistles in his last interview and blew their socks off.

There is absolutely no way we can go for another green assistant in the state we are in, we need the experience Williams brings.

Go beg for some of that AFL cash and make it happen.

That's a scary thought, think you mean Simon

Mate, this is the big leagues, Macca is a way off it yet IMO, especially where we are at in other areas of the club. I think it's too big an ask for him whereas Choco has a big personality and loves the limelight and will eat up turning the Saints into a force again.
And watch lapsed members & sponsors desperate to get back on board..!!

ridiculing the kid like that only has the potential to backfire and i guess re-highlights the issues identified in the choco thread on the main board, about his antics during player interviews

i think we'll need someone strong around him as a senior assistant to keep him in check on a day to day basis

I reckon it's more letting the kid know that he's about to enter a man's game & he needs to be prepared to be challenged (even if is just about a dodgy beard).

Can't wait for Choco to discuss Josh Bruce's hairstyle with him!

I used to think stuff like that was pretty trivial but now I'm not sure. If you look at the Melbourne players who seemed more concerned about their little beard growing contest than getting smashed every week I think it gives you an idea about where their heads are at. And let's face it if they can't handle being told to shave they're not likely to make it

he's 18!!! training with an AFL team is confronting enough!!! pretty sure you'd pick up on that in your first day without the stupid ass ridicule

must be the beards, lets ignore the previous 3-4 years of being set up to fail and the blatant mismanagement of all areas of the football dept.... only to be replaced by a bloke who is on a head kicking mission

To be fair he does look like a dickhead -

Note - This comment will be totally redacted should he get drafted to the Saints ;)

Do you think that comment will be the worst thing they hear in their AFL career?

Have to agree with Defacto here. Those comments about appearance are completely unnecessary. If you want to criticise on football skills or athleticism, fine that's fair enough as long as it's done in a constructive manner but honestly who gives a crap about whether he has a beard or not?

So we're going to start ridiculing kids to build 'mental toughness' now? You wouldn't get away with it in any other work place

C'mon Defacto! Ridicule is a very strong word.

Choco is renowned for pushing the buttons of young players to see how they react. His interviews at the combine are legendary tales!

And he is 18. He's a young man & is tough enough to deal with a coach telling him to have a shave. Wait til Lennon had to face a group of teammates during a Leading Teams session!

By the way, Lennon is my hope for a top 10 rated kid to slide to us. Has it all.. Including a shit beard (that he's happy to cop shit about!)

renowned is one word to use i guess. not sure i like some of those tales. one of them included choco accussing stephen hill of being homosexual to the point hill stormed out of the interview. i sure hope for choco sake and ours that its bullshit

some of the other tales have players on record questioning his behavior

training with an AFL club at 18 would be an extremely confronting thing. there is absolutely no benefit from ridiculing him like that. for one he isnt a list player and two you dont know if you are going to draft him. what do you hope to achieve by doing it? what possible benefit would the player receive?

if you had a work experience kid from high school, would you call him a dickhead in regards to his appearance?

i cant wait for us to appoint a dress standard coach or grooming expert, surely richmond arent paying him to comment on a non-listed players facial hair
