Tiger G, It seems to me as though the Tigers had 2 players on the bench the whole game and the Pies had a strong wind in the last quarter. I wouldnt say they are back to their old ways. Pies are a very strong outfit and I am calling it now that no team will get as close as what Mayne did.

 I'm calling that you will be out by about 4-6 games...

Sounds like the coach put on his own display, esp if he was mixing it with the crowd. New to the caper isn't he?? Might be some wise heads at Magpie land that tell him to pull his head in very quickly bc they are a professional club with a well deserved reputation as one of the most professional clubs in the comp. Unfortunately it takes 10 years to build a rep, 1 year to destroy it as a general rule.

Didn't think he was that bad, but granted I only saw the 2nd half. He was a bit angry at 3/4 time, but I think everyone was after the little scuffle when the Magpies ruckman seemed to be singled out by the umpires despite being the retaliator (sp?), not the instigator.

Probably could have kept his calm a bit better at that point..!

Absolute quality individual. He coached the Magpie U/18's and was a credit to himself and the club, a huge contrast to his opposing coach.

The Mayne Coach and bench were into the umpires and opposition players all day. Just normal stuff for the first 3/4 but it turned very nasty late in the game. Singling out 16 year old kids and telling them they are soft c#nts and short stepped contests, then continuing the abuse after the match in which they were pretty soundly beaten.

Players from both sides behaved pretty poorly unfortunately, but Corrie did his best to pull his own players into line and also tried to calm the opposition coach down by suggesting a grown man shouldn't be throwing insults at kids from the sidelines, but to no avail.

2 players were yellow carded including the Magpies captain (which would have been very embarassing), and quite a few more deserved it. These kids really need to grow up a bit and learn how to play the game in the right spirit, both sides spent too much time mouthing off and not enough time just playing footy - although its hard to blame the Mayne kids when their coach is the worst offender, not much excuse for a few of the Magpie kids considering their coach is an absolute first class individual.

And we then sit around wondering why U18 numbers are down across the board??? Coaches are the leaders of the club on match day, their behaviour more or less is a barometer for what is accepted by their supporter group as a general rule. Pretty sad stuff. Have also heard what a quality person Corrie is - again hopefully ppl from Mayne do something about it bc kids (and parents) vote with their feet up here pretty quickly - I mean its not like there isn't anything else to do!!

When to see the Game between Western Magpies and Mayne,( Seniors ) on the weekend. A good rough game of footy. I thought Mayne had Western Magpies on the ropes until the 3/4 quarter explosion. If you get hit, try not to hit your opposition player in front of the umpires, not once, or twice or even a third time. No brains there!!! The 3/4 quarter time incident sparked Western Magpies to fire up!! So they blew Mayne off the paddock in the fourth quarter.

Coaches should know when to shut up!!! They should yell and scream in the training drills or when the team is not working together on game day. Not to the crowd, not to the opposition bench and not to the umpires. They are the leadership group of the team and the club. A disappointing display on the day. Stamp that out quick or there will be nobody coming to see the Western Magpies.

I think Mayne will win several games this year if they can run 4/4 quarters of footy. Some great goals from all over the field. Some magic tackles from both teams. I enjoy it!!

Best of luck to both teams during the season. :)

Agree that it was an outstanding game until three quarter time and then the magpies blew Mayne away. As a new qlder (third game I have seen, but I have only lived here a month) I was really impressed by the quality of play.
The tigers seemed to waste some chances in front of goal where the magpies capitalized. Both sides had some young players who look to have bright futures.
I have a background in sports administration and I am looking for a club to volunteer with now that I am pretty much retired.
Still looking around to find the right club but I am pretty sure that the league has found a new fan.
Great football played with real passion by guys who do it for the love not the money.
If every game is payed with that intensity and that skill then I will be there by the fence every week.

Also, having seen the tribalism that exists up here. Is there an Anzac Day type game on. If not perhaps it is something the aflq should look at for next year. Maybe a double header with four local rivals under lights.

Mayne U18's coach, I am pretty sure it wasnt him that made the comments that caused the issues.

I can guarantee it was.

Both sides players behaved poorly throughout the game, with a few Magpies players needing a lesson in learning to win with humility, particularly after the siren.

However, there was only one coach encouraging his kids to get on with the game and improve their behaviour, and that was Corrie. His counterpart was a major part of the problem, rather than anything remotely resembling a solution. His behaviour was as bad as I have seen from an official in any code of sport for a long time.

The yellow card was pulled out at 3/4 time and shown to the Maggies, but the umpires looked to be talked out of it.

You talking Seniors? If so, it did appear that way. Definitely looked to card a bloke, then change their mind. I think the AFLQ umpires boss was umpiring?

The whole issue with the player being carded in the seniors was strange. He wasn't the instigator but they never get caught. Thought the tigers ruck men should have been sent off as well for coming at players from behind. It seemed to definitely help the magpies but they had already kicked the last few goals anyway and seemed to have all the momentum.

Excellent. I will be there for sure.
Was thinking next year with the way Anzac Day falls on Friday that a double header on the Friday night with the northern brisbane clubs all involved. Would fill a ground, do some charity collection for legacy etc

Was doing some research into the league today. Can someone tell me what happened down the Gold Coast? How have Coolangatta improved so quickly?

It's round one, so not yet clear whether it's Cooly improving or Burleigh regressing

would imagine every single club in the comp would love an additional hand with the many roles needed to be filled with volunteering each week. would recommend finding the most local club and asking there. i know the club i'm associated with (springwood) would be very happy with anyone willing to help out, but i'd be staggered if there weren't 11 other clubs in this comp in the same position

Just seemed like a massive swing after looking at last years results.

I am based on the nort side of brisbane, hence going to the magpies mayne and now the sandgate Wilston game this week.

I am really after a strong community club that is looking to grow using local talent not one trying to buy short term success. Any ideas?

Lot of good banter on the boards, bit of a shame to hear about the coaches but round 1 games between the Maggies and Mayne have always been a big event, ever since those were the only games either team had a chance of winning back in the State League days.

Here are the footy tipping results.

Saw the game, completely new list at Cooly, hard to gauge where they at but will probably know after the magpies next week.
Having said that Burleigh were pretty disappointing..

Always exciting to see a side turn around. Good for the supporters no doubt after what would have been a long year.
Most other games look pretty competitive.

Wilston Grange play Sandgate Wednesday night at Grange.

I will be there, beer in one hand, pie in the other!!
Should be interesting, I also know that the Community umpires will be there for training before the match. See link AFLQ website.
Some sore bodies in this game!!!

Great to see there is a footy match before ANZAC day. Lest we forget.

Hi mate. I'm affiliated with a small single team club called the Woodsmen, and we'd love your services but given you're on the Northside I think a good club to get involved with would be Zillmere Eagles as they could really use someone like you. Just depends if you want to be dealing with Div 1 clubs, or a community club looking to grow.

Zillmere were a State League club only 5 years ago, fell apart due to debt (I think?) and have recently rejoined the competition in Division 4. They have a really loyal player and supporter base and are a great bunch of blokes. It's a been a great effort for them to pick themselves back up and get going again, and if they can attract more playing numbers and volunteers, I'd imagine they will move back up the ranks in coming years.

Danny Dickfos is probably the bloke to get in touch with, if you did want to help out down there. As an opposition club though, I really like the blokes they have down there.
