Traded Shai Bolton, pick 14 & F3 (Rich) traded to Fremantle for picks 10, 11 & 18

You seemed quite big on him when his name was floated as part of the Bolton trade by someone.

What’s the thinking potentially letting him get taken by another club? Or is he just really a plodder?
No, I'm a massive fan and think he'll be very good, I was hoping Reidy would leave

He takes up a senior list spot is the reality. Of the 7 players we've let go (Corbett, Taberner, Hughes, Kuek, Williams, Emmett, Stanley), Corbett and Williams didn't occupy "real" list spots, and Stanley and Kuek were already on the rookie list. That leaves 4 additions to the senior list (Bolton + 3 draftees) and only 3 senior list delistees if we don't do the Knobel move.

For the 42 "main" list spots, clubs can do 38 Senior List + 4 Cat A Rookie list, 37 + 5 or 36 + 6. Freo pretty much always try to go with 36 + 6, presumably because of the benefits of rookie listing on the salary cap. Doing what we've done with Knobel was the only path available for that.

Now the dust has settled, how are Freo fans feeling about this trade? Or do we need to wait until he shows your first hand how transformative he is gong to be the Freo side.
Good trade for both clubs. What Ive reached the conclusion is that we basically turned Shultz and Henry into Bolton minus a 3 pick downgrade of our first pick. It complicated and approximate equal because we traded seconds to get the POrt pick and we gained two later seconds in the Henry and Shultz trade plus the Collingwood 1st while also gaining the future Richmond 3rd so approximately even all up.

That was so confusing, but it appears we agree that is was a pretty fair trade all in all.

I agree.

He’s perfect for Freo. If he can reach anything close to his potential then Freo have one of the best match winners getting around.
Sadly Shai Bolton didn't play round 1 as he was injured.

I don't know what Richmond got for picks 10,11 and 18, but I was happy with what we got for picks 14.

That Murphy kid kicked 4 goals in a 3rd quarter vs the cats

Taj Hotton, Jonty Faul and Luke Trainer. Trainer is going to be a star and big araps on the other 2 but yet to see them with Hotton coming back from an acl. Reid was the one player I wanted, looks really good and family was mad tigers as well. Still you can't have them all.

Did you watch the Freo vs swans game today?

That game brought my worst fears on this trade. Bolton has been Fremantled he is now a dud

I disagree. He had a 'nearly' game today and thats expected after coming back from an injury. I really like the move of Brayshaw starting at half forward and Bolton starting in the centre square but then the two swapping roles after the centre bounce so in open play.

You've just summed him up.
He has been a "nearly" player his whole career.
He has the potential to become a A grader but man he is frustrating!

Yes,

But, lets wait a few weeks and reconvene.

Shai gets better the better the team he plays in is

He is a cream on the cake player, but it kinda looks like the cake is more of a flat pancake at Freo

He is a player that will make a team from good to great, but you gotta be good first, and freo atm is not good at all

Hopefully he will not waste the rest of his career in a mediocre team, because it looks like Freo has the players, but coaching? not so much

Agreed 👍.

Justin Longmuir needs to go

Nothing wrong with the way he played yesterday. Yes we all want the superstar that's going to have 20 and 3 every week but the pieces of brilliance yesterday showed me enough to suggest he is going to be more then handy.

Just a shame he has soo many shit teammates.

If you're looking for a consistent star who will grind away every week producing consistent results, you're going to be disappointed.

If you're looking for someone with X factor who will pop up and do the amazing (and potentially swing a game), then you got your man.

Assuming you're OK with the latter, they you got a good deal because he'll do that more often than most players like that...and even do a little bit of the former as well to help round things out.

Just give him a few weeks before you just him.

“Nearly game” exactly sums it up. Quite a few times where he just didn’t get that clean first touch, or took a second too long….

Can put it down to a case of the First Game Fumbles, hopefully it will click better for him in the next few games.

We over paid for him just like eagles overpaid for Liam Baker

Only if you don't become a genuine contender. He is absolutely the sort of guy who will be huge in winning a premiership. But nothing much in grinding out games in a mediocre team.

Freo should be contending this year. If they do not then that isn't down the Shai.
