Shaw open to move - GWS the nominated club of choice post #1927

While we are talking about idiots, Damien Barrett said just before Terry's dumb comment that if it's a fair deal for GWS to trade us their first round pick and Adams for Shaw. Tbh I did LOL as soon as I heard that and that LOL turned in to a double face palm when Terry Wallace said he is worth a mid second rounder.
It's interesting that Barrett would even think of that. I wonder if he is on to something? Perhaps not directly, but maybe we are looking at Adams and pick 9 or 20 for shaw and another player?

Wherever Shaw ends up, as his management have stated, they will be fully aware that deal can be done to satisfy us.

lol @ Terry Wallace thinking we will just accept pick 28 or thereabouts.

This was the same guy who thought Wellingham was worth WCE's pick 30 something last year and that Dawes wouldn't fetch a first rounder.

For a guy who calls himself the "list manager", he has NFI.

Dawes didn't fetch a first rounder. We got pick 20 for him.

Nope he just despises the Pies and isn't honest enough to admit it.

Keep him. If we want to win a flag in the next two years we will need Shaw. He has been pretty much our most consistent big game/finals player over the past 7 years.
The only place we should consider trading him is GWS. Anyone else and we immediatley make them stronger and us weaker. If pick 10 and 11 next year turn out to be Ollie Wines/Jagaer O'Meara in their first years, that still wont get us to a flag. But an AA half back year from a fired up and repentent Heath Shaw might. We have to challenge while Cloke, Pendles and Swan are still around.

I agree with this with the key being a repentent and composed Shaw who can be thrown into a different position when being tagged. But would be ok with a deal to gws involving Adams, pick 1

Given the choice I'd like him to stay. Sort his shit out with Bucks and have a big year.
That being said, if he does goes I hope we get Adams or someone of equal level, and don't help out a competitive team like the cats.

Have I missed something?
Who is suggesting he will stay?
His manager did indicate it is still possible he may stay if Collingwoods demands can't be met. He was very clear in saying, that we have made it very clear to other clubs what we'd want for him to be traded and the clubs in the mix, apparently have what we want. Whether they're willing to do the deal, we'll soon find out.

Listened to Barrett and Wallace yesterday. FMD. What a pair of clowns? Barrett said the club has gotten good service out of Shaw and due to the club wanting him out, should move him to his club of choice and that would be pick 28, if his choice was carlton. WTF. Like carlton did with Fevola??? Not. Totally forgot that he is contracted and if he's been offered in the vicinity of $700/$800k per year from GWS, I'd say they value him highly and would be worth considerably more. Barrett then suggested a fair deal would be Adams and pick 19 for Shaw no Wallace nearly had a heart attack figuring We'd have to pony up a 3rd round pick in the 40's to even the deal out. GWS won't be using a pick that late. They'll be done in draft day after using 3 or 4 picks. They already have a truckload of young high draft picks. I was laughing the whole way through their discussion as if they'd tee'd it up to spark some discussion in an otherwise very dull day. There is zero chance we'd trade Shaw to carlton. I very much doubt he'd want to go there. Collingwood is in his blood and going to the enemy might even sting his dad.

Ok, thanks for the update BP :thumbsu:

I'd be pretty surprised if Shaw stayed but I guess it's always an option if there were no decent offers. You don't miss the B&F, shop yourself around, have the club say they're willing to trade and then go back to the club.

The only failed trade I can remember like this where the player stayed was Ryan O'Keefe and the whole time Sydney wanted to keep him as there wasn't any bad blood between them.

Yeah it was. But Wallace was absolutely spot on.

I assure you, Wallace's rubbish couldn't be further from the truth.

As I said, you don't go around offering players 4yr contracts if you aren't seriously intent on landing them and Heath Shaw will fetch a pick greater than pick 30 something.

Wallace was shown up last year when he thought Wellingham and Dawes would fetch pick 30 somethings.

He has NFI.

I wasn't actually questioning whether Wallace knew what he was talking about, I was questioning your comment saying Wallace was wrong when he said Dawes wouldn't get us a first round pick (which he didn't).

I expect Shaw will get us either a first round pick this year or Adams, so I agree that Wallace seems to be undervaluing Shaw on the market. But only time will tell us if we are right or if Wallace is right.

Swan has ruled out Carlton wanting him.
GWS or Geelong it is.
If neither offer what we want, keep him. He's to good of a player to get rid of for a half eaten sandwich and a packet of chips.

Wasn't pick 20 a first round pick?
If it wasn't the AFL needs to change its record as it has Broomhead listed in his bio as a First Round Pick?

Pick 20 was 100% a 1st Round pick last year.
Dawes was traded for a 1st Round pick.

yeah it def was. WC first round pick that netted us Grundy was 18, ours was 19. Adelaide's was originally 20 and 21 was what we got for Dawes. So by that definition there was still a few more picks in the first round left.

EDIT: MML beat me to it

Sydney's 1st Round was pick 22, because of the GWS first 3 1st Round picks & other compo picks pushed the 1st Round back to end with pick 23 (2nd Round only commenced pick 24)

Greater Western Sydney got three first round picks through trading though, so that didn't push the list down.

However, yeah, it appears that pick 20 was technically a first round pick, so I am mistaken, and Wallace was wrong. Apologies HFF.

Having said that (and on a side note) I would still object to actually saying that someone who was drafted in the 20s is a first round pick, when every other year (outside the expansion years) they are second rounders. Just be extending the number of picks in the round doesn't make their quality any better.
