Not again we really need domestic sides to pick their spinner, they are not helping our search for the next spinner.

Tasmania 5/149 (59.2 overs)

Wells, Doolan and Bailey all got 30's. While George, Duval, Cleary, O'Brien and Cosgrove all with a wicket each for the Redbacks. Sounds like a good bowling performance all round, probably helped out by the conditions a bit.

As for leaving out Bailey and not helping the search for the next Australian spinner, until the states actually have an incentive to pick spinners, they wont. The conditions don't suit spin, and they wont at Adelaide Oval at this stage of the season. So why would you pick a specialist spinner?

In the Futures Cup, the teams get extra points for each wicket taken by a spinner. Perhaps that is something they'll look at bringing in to the Sheffield Shield competition.

Rain delays seemed to help the Redbacks today with 3 or 4 players getting starts and falling just before or just after a break.

Important first session tomorrow for the Tigers.

Tas 8 for 177 now another season and our batting again is poor, Players getting starts and not going on with it. Hopefully our bowlers can gets us back into the game.

Massive case of deja vu from last season. Top 6 making starts with none going on. Regular collapses including losing both bastman from a solid partnership in quick succession.

At least the young boy Jones has steered us past 200.

Hopefully there is a bit in the pitch for Geeva to rip through em!

can you inform us re: jones. I see from the cricket australia commentary he's wiki for Kingborough but do not know much else about him.

seems to have a bit of go about him :thumbsu:

Jones was 2nd choice keeper at Kingborough in 2006/07 behind David Dawson. in 2007/08 Dawson agreed to move to Clarence so that they could both keep for their respective 1st XIs. Now that Dawson has left the state, Jones came straight into 2nd spot behind Paine for Tassie duties.

I think he is about 20y.o. and has worked his way through State U/17s, U/19s and 2nd XI cricket. He is currently still on a rookie contract, but will likely be elevated next year (surprised he wasn't this year).

Pretty aggressive batsman, and probably will rise above Krejza and Geeves in the order once he gets a bit of experience under his belt. Was primarily selected as a wicketkeeper rather than as a wicketkeeper/batsman.

From 13 digs last year in the TCA he averaged a touch under 30, with a top score of 98. So he is definately going better than form suggests.

I know it's Game One of the season but under no circumstances is it acceptable to have bowled a wide and nine no-balls inside the first dozen or so overs.

Good to see Duval getting some wickets, Cossie grabs a 2 fer not bad at all.

Smith is in good form, hopefully he goes on and makes a biggie.

Why has it taken until til around the 30th over for Butters to get a bowl? Aside from Geeves, he has been our main wicket-tacker in 4 dayers with his swing and tight bowling.

Low and behold, he comes and gets the breakthrough.

He should have been bowling first change with a relatively new cherry...cmon Bailey...
