As opposed to Adelaide, who develop decent players only for them to leave at the first opportunity.
Salary cap means we wouldn’t keep them all anyway, too good at developing and identifying talent. Equalisation means talent needs to be spread around the competition.
Adelaide will replace McGovern with another gun youngster, Carlton will continue to turn gun youngsters into ok players.

I'm not hanging shit on Adelaide FC, but you guys are losing more of your fair share of good talent though, more than you would if it was just salary cap. The club is definitely great at developing talent, but you've lost Cameron, Lever, now McGovern and possibly Crouch, within two trade periods. That's a lot of pressure to get those young kids up and running in a short period of time.

Don’t put Crouch into your argument.

Adelaide have also attracted Jenkins, Lynch, Gibbs, Betts, Seedsman, Stengle, Jacobs, Cheney, Hampton, Menzel on top so it’s not like it doesn’t come back the other way.

As an example, look at how seamlessly we replaced Lever with a committed, ready and excellent talent in Doedee. Runner up in the Rising Star, a far better first year player than Lever and has recommitted to the club. Imagine if Carlton had some idea on how to develop some of these 'left field' picks rather than just relying on SOS's strategy of raiding the GWS bin and relying on his relationships with those players. The well is dry there.

Equalisation...you haven't won a premiership for almost as long as us...

No it's not a waste of time. It drives all the areas that a club needs to grow membership, revenues, merchandise and general engagement.
There's a reason no one wants to watch Carlton play on a Friday night.
So you're saying Adelaide's priority is to grow membership over winning premierships?

An AFL insider has just told me that SOS and Shiel have a gentleman's agreement, SOS has told Shiel he will do "whatever it takes" to win his services, if that means pick 1 so be it, ( which will go to the crows ) but SOS wants 'something else in return'. Shiel is just pretending to shop around to buy some time for the deal to be finalised.
Shiel has NO intention of playing for any other Victorian club than Carlton.

Might get a bit expensive flying him to each game via private jet :D
