Should Dangerfield have won the MVP??

What you don't realise is the Geelong football club lacks soul!!! It took me a while to pinpoint this. I speculate its a regional cultural thing born from dependency.

This explains why they got close without winning it with good teams with G Ablett Snr even though they were up against it versus Hawthorn zoning efforts!! They only started win after acquiring a ridiculous amount of talent via Wells and losses to Sydney from Davis's goal spree late! It probably explains with Ablett Jnr left and his recent behaviour apparently wanting to come back!

The fact is when Geelong becomes a real football club thats when Billy Brownless punches Gary Lyon in the mouth in public and then kicks him in the balls!!! SO it is not going to happen for a good while yet!!! For example Geelong could never win like the Pies won in 1990 versus Essendon!

this is another reason why Geelong are so reliant on Dangerfield. They do not believe in themselves enough with their own flaws they need to look to Danger for inspiration!!!

What you can't see is Danger takes less so better individuals can come in and play with the other players, teamwork has nothing to do with it at Geelong!! Then again Brisbane in particular was a good team of individuals to and hardly a gun team in terms of teamwork with individuals like Aker running amok and why Voss failed so badly initially as a coach!!

What a load of utter, utter shit.

We finish top 8 year after year despite haemorrhaging talent due to age. When we play well, which is by no means always, one of the primary reasons (aside from Dangerfield obviously) is that we play greater than the sum of our parts.

We have two legitimate stars, two or three relatively elite players behind them, and a group of solid Afl players. No more, no less. Like the swans sides pre-Buddy, we have stayed in the mix because we have a group that by and large play for each other and are unselfish.

While you haven't stated it expressly, I'm guessing you think Richmond are some sort of heart and soul team, probably because the supporter base stays massive throughout a barren 37 years.

Reality is your club has had talent dotted throughout its roster since Richo was in his prime but had delivered three fifths of f*** all for the precise reason that not one single member of the group has been able to get them to pull in the same direction for more than a few weeks at a time.

Suddenly getting your shit together for the first time in living memory doesn't instantly erase that.

Actually I think players should be independently rated money wise making up the salary cap for the club from the consensus of a wide ranging committee and market. For example if another club wanted Danger for 1.5 million regardless of him staying at Geelong for 800K that should be the salary price to stop organisations being player ponzi schemes and returning back to being competitive clubs!! For example assume all players are freely available each year on open market which players go where and who makes up the club mix based on market value. So if Dangers real value is 1.5 million that club who pays that what do they pay to each player relatively speaking making up the rest of their list??

For example Golden State Warriors win the NBA simply because of players accepting lower salary fitting a better list in the cap!!! First that had Curry on a lowball contract, now they have Durant lowballing

I can't imagine how this wouldn't constitute some sort of restraint of trade law.

If you want to purchase something for a nominated price and the seller is willing to take that price, as far as I'm aware you can't block the transaction.

Players block negotiations between clubs all the time based on their preferences!!

BS, like Sellars said, without Dangerwood around bottom 4 for Geelong!!

lol , how can Richmond get any talent with next to no father sons and finishing ninth all the time???

Do you think Richmond is where we are now on just ability??? Dream on!!!

Possibly the biggest load of shit I've ever read. Thanks for sharing.

1. Selwood had 18 touches last night and no impact. So really it was just Dangerfield against the form team of the comp - and he didn't play on the centre for More than 20 minutes. To flog the living shit out of Sydney the rest of the side must have been doing something right.

2. Where did I say that Richmond are only where they are on ability? I said that for the best part of 20 years they've had ability, but less heart and soul than a f***ing sanitary pad, and the fact that their brilliant meeting of minds has finally led them to actually play like a team for one season doesn't erase that.

I wouldn't have a clue how they're supposed to do better. You have one of the richest football clubs in the competition and every resource in the world to figure that out so why would I give a f***?

Opposition camps can only keep using the father son thing for so long. We only got 4 players out of it, one of them was Mark Blake, so we actually lost out of that deal. Another of them has been very good but hardly the driving force of our success (Hawkins), another hasn't played for us in 8 seasons and the other hasn't played in 5.

We've never finished lower than 12th in our history so you can't throw that as an excuse for why we do well. The fact is we are well run, generally play as a unit and have done since Thompson nearly got the arse, and we've managed to find a way around most of the hurdles in front of us.

But no, because we lost a few grand finals in the 90s (with top-heavy sides but absolutely no second tier i might add) we lack heart and soul.

Tug it a bit harder mate and you can ice the cake.

I ****ing hate geelong and this post as well as yourself is utterly shit

This promised a truly spectacular rant, and I have to say you really delivered. Baryshnikov would have struggled to pull this performance off with such panache.

I'm not sure how on earth we lack "soul" - we have a pretty clear identity as a football club: we play football that's good to watch, and we're the club for regional Victoria, we're the only one-team-town in the AFL.
This explains why they got close without winning it with good teams with G Ablett Snr even though they were up against it versus Hawthorn zoning efforts!!
Yeah, or maybe we lost because while our forward line was spectacular, our backline of Schulz, Malekellis and Darcy were beaten by Brereton, Anderson and Dunstall.

They only started win after acquiring a ridiculous amount of talent via Wells and losses to Sydney from Davis's goal spree late! It probably explains with Ablett Jnr left and his recent behaviour apparently wanting to come back!
There are only four players in that Geelong lineup from 07-11 who I would describe as ridiculously talented - Hawkins, both Abletts and SJ. Most of the players we acquired through Wells' astute recruiting who became champions didn't become champions overnight (Selwood the exception), or, to be honest, through having terrific natural gifts. You can't just punch people in the head any more to win games (and you seem to omit that we started off 1989 by running through Brereton and busting Dipper's lung). Besides, 2009 was probably, physically, the toughest GF of the modern era and we won that one, too.

Three recent flags indicates that we're doing ok.

this is another reason why Geelong are so reliant on Dangerfield. They do not believe in themselves enough with their own flaws they need to look to Danger for inspiration!!!

Yeah, Danger does take less so that he can play in a better team. If only he were as selfless as Dusty, trying his hardest to make sure that new recruits don't come in and upset the apple cart.

Except both queensland teams.

I would have thought the result yesterdays result against Sydney replacing their whole forward line typified its about Dangerfield not Dangerwood and really Dangerfield should be on 2 million a year and is he rorting the system carrying a lessor salary???

Your English teacher must cry him/herself to sleep at night.

NO

He might have flashes of brilliance. But he also has flashes of inconsistency.

He was also suspended this season (and he's had more than one act which would have been suspendable if it were Joe Blow and not Danger)
Flashes of inconsistency? Gee you post some dribble.

The bloke averaged 30 touches and almost 2 goals a game this year. Very definition of a consistent footballer.

If it wasn't for Dangerfield's suspension I think the result would have been a lot closer. Dangerfield's season is beginning to become really underrated. It wouldn't shock me if he comes incredibly close to winning the Brownlow count.
