Should I buy a 360 or PS3?

Both seem prone to failure yet the xbox has a 3 year warranty compared to the ps3's 1 year. Leave it up to you to decide what the safer bet is

plus the PS3 costs something like $250 to fix. You could buy a brand new 360 Arcade with that money

To the OP, there is no right or wrong choice here. I've owned both consoles and I have had just as much fun with both of them.

The xbox is far more prone to failure than the ps3 though.
I do not actually personally know anyone that has had a ps3 fail.

the 3 year warranty would be nice, but i would rather a product with a 1 year warranty that is less likely to break vs a 3 year warranty that is more or less certainly going to be needed.
My 360 crapped itself but I sent it off and got it back in under three weeks. I got a brand new unit too.

I've gotta say that I was really happy with the service.

With the group of people I know the Xbox vs PS3 failure rate is 1 vs 1.

Both were earlier versions of the consoles and another reason why I never buy anything when it has just been released.

PS3 exclusives are higher rated on Metacritic than 360 exclusives.

I wonder which I'd prefer :).
Nope not quite.

It was discussed in another thread, where exclusives rated over a certain score were at a higher % on PS3 v Xbox360. This does not matter unless you buy every single game, so you are therefore more likely to have a better % of quality games.

The thing was that Xbox360 had a far larger amount of titles released in the same period. This meant that whilst PS3 had a better %, the Xbox had a larger total amount over a certain score.

So greater amount of highly rated titles or games to choose from.

Buy both if you can afford it but personally I prefer PC. My brother and I share consoles but twice I have opted for the initially more expensive option of buying a PC over another console (Alienware m15x and a desktop I built myself). They perform so many more functions and whilst xbla is kewl for old titles and indie games, I have saved buckets using Steam on my computers. Add to that all the other advantages like updates, mods and user made content for games, upgrading hardware instead of whole consoles, superior hardware and the multitude of functions a PC can be used for as opposed to a console.

Well.... yes quite.

The PS3 had more quality titles which is why it rated higher on average.

There's two ways to looks at it, the overall higher scores of the PS3 exclusives are higher individually (Uncharted 2 - 96, LittleBIGPlanet - 95 etc), or you could just go by MetaCritic naming PS3 gaming console of the year from the averages this year :).

Shit Kerrby you know how averages are worked out don't you?

You are talking about the proportion of quality titles to total titles. Not the overall number of quality titles.

I might dig around for the articles but they have been posted and thoroughly commented on before.

EDIT: What I was posting was in reference to the back catalogue not specifically 09.

My point still stands on the average, with the xbox having released more games for a slightly lower avg. The PS3 did have 10 games rated great as opposed to 7 from PC and Xbox in 09 though.

The question is will you look at buying games over 12 months old?

And which exclusives do you prefer.

I just edited my post Kerrby.

No it isn't but I searched that article when I realised you were only talking about 2009.

I was talking about previous years.

The articles I was referring to addresses the back catalogue of games because it would have been pretty hard to comment on 2009 releases before the year was even over;).

Anyway PC ftw.

lol poor old Wii. Actually, poor old Wii owners. With all the money Nintendo is taking in, they really should stop being such lazy shits, and start pumping out a constant stream of A grade titles like their resources would allow. They're gaming philosophy is almost as bad as Activisions these days.
