Should Kernahan Stay As President?/Contact The Club If You Are Unhappy

Gee Sticks sounded pi**ed when he was interviewed in his car today. "They've been fined $5,000, but that will be the least of their worries when i'm finished with them on the 4th January"

I'm tipping a bake to end all bakes, and then they'll be flogged on the track!

:thumbsu:

Was listening to Mark Allan on SEN before, and he made a very good point. Back in the day, say when Sticks was playing, after almost every game and training session, the boys would have a couple of beers, and do this right throughout the season. Fast forward 20 years, and the players are almost robots, and they don't drink through the year, so when they do get a chance to have a drink, they go way overboard.

Is there a link to that interview?

I want to hear it, yet I can't find anything on Carltonfc.com.au or the news sites.

The useless Ian Coutts should be ****ed off ASAP.

They are lucky this did not happen.

I can't find anything either TG, but I heard the interview on SEN, and then channel 7 had the vision of him backing out of his driveway. You might have a little more luck than me.

One thing is for certain - i'm going to training on the 4th.

It doesn't look good on you and makes your arse look big.
Only because it is.

I honestly dunno what the answer to this whole culture problem is, but I just pray to heavens that this decade be done and dusted, cos it was one to forget and one that makes me sick, esp with the way it has ended, things must change, and change quickly

Who cares?

That was then, this is now. Now you need to extract every single bloody 0.05% out of your body that you can if you are to get to the top of the mountain. Instead our players go out and get wasted numerous times during the year whilst other clubs' players work hard, treat their bodies like temples.

Good going boys!!

I think we can contrast our situation with more professional clubs such as Sydney and Geelong.

Sydney have an end of season "social get together" from what i gather where they book out a pub and close it off from the media and keep everything inhouse. Once they finish at the pub the night is over, there is no wandering off to nightclubs and city locations.

Geelong - we never hear of these type of activities out of Geelong (Johnson aside over 3 years ago). THey had something at Scarlett's farm - but again it was not an out of control crazy party.

We can contrast that to Carlton's situation:-

1) this "piss up" is way after the end of season..only a month or so until the start of a new season. Should an organised "social get together" be happening so close to a new season?

2) the lack of controls/monitors etc from the president of Carlton to ensure that no bad publicity occurs. Did the president know about this cruise?
why weren't there organised taxis or organised pick ups after they got off the cruise so you didn't have people half comotosed going onto nightclubs etc?

If Kernahan knew pre event about the cruise then i think he should step down as it shows a lack of judgement on his behalf.

I think this episode proves we have a way to go to be as professional as other clubs.

This is what I would expect on the Richmond board.

Lets not throw the baby out with the bathwater !

I'm not sure if Sticks is the right man for the job or not (not sure whether he thinks he is the right man or not).

If not, then let it play out at the AGM at the end of the year.

But now is NOT the time for this type of sniping and instability.

Its December - the players had one night out on the piss. Yes, they will pay the price but there are three months before the season starts. Nothing in 2010 is lost at this point.

In fact I would argue that, given the fallout from this, Carlton will be on their best behavior (at least for 2010), there will probably be a player-led ban on drinking, some players could be playing for their career and the result could be a sensational season.

Apart from a few idiots, we have a fantastic bunch of young blokes to lead this club up the ladder - Judd, Gibbs, Murphy, The Tractor, McLean, Jamo...the list goes on.

Don't get sucked in by the flogs on Big Footy - there is no need to panic. Calling for a new president and dividing the club is exactly what opposition supporters want us to do.

We made the hard call to get rid of Fev ... their will be some hard calls on Jan 4 I hope (salary sacrifice ??).

But the important thing is to stay united.

I rarely start threads here and I know this is already being covered in other threads, however I wanted to discuss one thing and suggest another.

1. Topic For Discussion
Should Kernahan stay as president? Can the culture of the club change whilst he is president? He is old school Carlton and I don't think he has what it takes to turn things around (if indeed he thinks there is a serious problem).

I have serious doubts about him as president and think it is time for him to move on.

Ratten I am still in two minds about.

2. Suggestion
I don't know about others, but I have had enough of this crap. I don't want to see my club's name dragged through the mud by irresponsible idiots who don't realize the privilege they are enjoying by playing for Carlton.

So I will be writing to the club in the next week or so letting them know what I think. I would suggest that others who feel the same way also let the club know, whether by phone, email or letter.

The members need to let the club know that things need to change.

Sticks should be nothing more than a figure head .. he filled a short term need and now it is time for someone educated to take the roll. Sticks could be head of the social committee and maybe on the board.

The hard call to trade Fev is looking worse by the minute.

Great...more half baked suggestions.

Im not glossing over this weeks occurences, but in any large organisation, especially a professional sporting organisation, these issues are going to come up. The mark of a man is how he deals with the issues he is confronted with. I would love to hear what Sticks has to say to the playing group on resumption of pre-season training, but I dearly hope I don't. Our issues should not be fodder for the media...the only people who need to know the severity of the repurcussions are those in the firing line.

Sticks was prepared to support what must have been an extremely difficult decision to move Fev on. You might say why did he get so many chances, but ley's not forget that our recently departed saviour was seemingly one of Fev's greatest backers.

He has played a role in settling the most dysfunctional board in the competition. He has played a role in settling what was the most dysfunctional and poorly resourced footballing department in the competition. He was a catalyst in Dick assuming the presidency and setting us on the path to financial security. He was also the man willing to step into the breach when Dick's position became untenable.

It's far fom all his doing, but Sticks has been at or near the helm throughout the period that Carlton stopped the embarrasing freefall, and started the long, slow fight back to prominence.

In terms of his contribution on and off the field, he is without equal in the history of the Carlton Football Club.

I sincerely hope people are judging him fairly...it would be abhorrent to think Carlton supporters are forming opinion on the Big Footy consensus that he is 'old school' Carlton and a twenty year old youtube clip. If the key indicators (on-field success, football department resources, financial security, board cohesion, membership) suggest we are not tracking well, then by all means lets see if their is a man more qualified for the role. If not I think threads like this should die a quick and painless death at the hands of a fairminded moderator.
A very mature and excellant response.
All you say is correct and I give you credit for seeing "the glass is half full"
Too many on this site look at everything as "the glass is half empty"

He has done his job now time to move on.

The question I ask you is would any other club or listed company try and poach sticks?

The answer to that question will tell you why it is time for him to step down.

Sticks should be nothing more than a figure head .. he filled a short term need and now it is time for someone educated to take the roll. Sticks could be head of the social committee and maybe on the board.

WTF? Sticks is a successful businessman in his own right, perhaps he isn't as wealthy as a Pratt or a Mathieson, or even a Fitzpatrick, but that doesn't mean he isn't educated.

The fact is Sticks was thrust into the presidency role, on a temporary basis, due to the charges brought against Pratt by the ACCC. The deterioration in Pratt's health & his subsequent passing saw Sticks' role become permanent. Now there are a number of well credentialled individuals on the club's board & I certainly haven't heard or read anything to suggest there is any dissatisfaction within the board with the job Sticks is doing. Rest assured if Sticks was doing an ordinary job, there are enough healthy egos on our board who would be making a noise about this.

Just out of curiosity, do these guys have psychologists.
Maybe an idea is for the club to have a full time psychologist at the club, in which whenever a big outing is planned, such as a cruise with free drinks or the brownlow, the players have to go by the psychologist.

I dunno, i guess that's just another half baked idea
a pysch is not reqd when people handcuff a fresh player and force them to do things against their will
sticks says "wait til I get my hands on them"
I look fwd to seeing what this entails
