Analysis Should we be pursuing a secondary market post-Hobart? If yes, then where?

Serious? Make a holding statement. Simple. They will announce this deal like it is the second coming and the saviour of our club. It's been in the media almost three weeks. This discussion has been had earlier in this thread so I know some do not agree. I think they should have made a comment to members confirming this is an option being looked at and that they would advise members what was happening when appropriate. They have no surprise announcement to make now - they will tell members last.
I know negotiations were still ongoing as late as last week and while it had been publicly reported nothing was finalised. I understand your point, but where do they draw the line in terms of public comment. Their view rightly or wrongly is that they don’t want to update supporters until they have all details finalised. There were similar stories in August regarding the NT and a comment wasn’t made it that instance either.

I hear you - I disagree. I think it is poor PR. No secrets now. Everything is in the media.

Is your frustration because of public perception, or because you’d like to be kept in the loop? If it’s the latter, I’d strongly suggest reaching out to the club directly for comment in the future. Accessibility to key staff is great as we are a small club, and they are usually able to share more information in confidence then they would be able to share through any media release.

Once it hits the media there is no secret. I have spoken to the club and they have said what you did - nothing is locked in and when it is they will tell members. I understand that, but given the discussion over three weeks in quite significant detail the club should have made a holding comment. Now they will trumpet this deal but they didn't' tell members first - plenty of people in the media did. I will bow out of my convo now as I understand the other side. I just think when it is something this significant the club has handled the PR poorly. Just my humble opinion.

I love when you do this shitcan the club then immediately go uwu I'm just smol bean thing

if we play 2 games in Tassie , there’ll be about a thousand ppl turn up
I heard a few years ago we had 1,500 members in WA. Seems like plenty of North fans at all our games there.
At least it's a win for them.

Not everyone over there likes the two perth franchises

Sorry I have an opinion different to you. Already discussed this in detail.

Apologies if I missed if last time, bug what is the "simple" holding line you would have deployed?

As for just having a different opinion:

It's irrelevant. We are not doing these games for attendances - that should be clear by now. It's just about the cash.

Same. It's irrelevant. Good for them and all, but let's not kid ourselves - the club wants the cash and that is all it is and will ever be because we keep moving every 5-10 years. There is nothing sustainable about how we do this.

Selling Home games to avoid Away games in WA.

That's clever.

Agree. This is part of the reason that the mixed home Tas model never got up - the other clubs didn't want us getting a Collingwood equivalent level of Home games (albeit split over two bases). Reading between the lines the AFL might have come to the party for a couple of reasons:

1. The gather round precedent makes this a more arguable result
2. More importantly, IMO, the AFL knows that with another new team coming to Tas they will have an even bigger argument trying to push non big 4+ Melbourne clubs into cosy return arrangements and minimal travel. I read this as them facilitating WA paying us big $$$ as hush money to help us accept the ongoing poor fixture that will only get worse when we (Dogs, Saints, Melbourne etc) are playing Tas twice and they're trying to hide low turnouts from Rich / Ess / Carl / Coll etc.

BTW main board should be fun, get in there and enjoy it once official. The other clubs will hate this deal as it benefits Fremantle, West Coast and us at the expense of every other club. Should be entertaining to watch.

It will be a bit rich if fans of the SA clubs ark up after the absurdity of Gather Round.
