Who appears to be on the outer at St.Kilda at the moment and out of contract ???

Now the immediate thought one would have is no, we have already a star-studded midfield, however I would argue with the treatment/roughing up of Chris Judd in recent weeks, and the poor form of Nick Stevens all year, and the fact that Murphy and Gibbs aren't really in and under type players, Ball is the type of player that would be a great asset for us, and would take another hard 'tag' away from Judd, certainly I'm a bit dissapointed at Murphy and Gibbs' unwillingness to get their hands dirty, especially in comparison to Judd, and Luke Ball is still a very good player, even if his kicking skills aren't that great, his ability to extract the pills from packs, and clearances, is second to none.

Salary cap wouldn't be an issue/problem either, Fev goes on the Veteran's list next year, and plenty of room to afford a player of his calibre under our cap.

I would honestly give up our first rnd draft pick, if we could get both Ball and Matt Maguire together in a package (and we can offload Fisher to the Saints as well whilst we're at it :D)

I hope people can consider Judd's health and the impact heavy taggers are having on his body as a major consideration as to why recruiting Ball would be a good thing IMHO.

Saints won't let ball go, he would be handy for his hardball getting and tackling, but def lacks speed, which we desperately need, I think McGuire is a realistic chance of being traded, he would be handy as well

Have heard he is on $600K from a few reports now which is massive coin for quality mid who has obvious limitations. Unless he's willing to slice a third off his wage I cannot see him representing any sort of fair value, let alone what we have to potentially trade to secure him.

And aside from that he's played with the same guys for a number of years, he strikes me as a good club man and they look to have a pretty exciting year or two ahead...why would he even contemplate leaving?

do u think aluke ball is the answer at the moment or getting s.o.s.(full back of the century ) making the peace and learn defencive skills e.g. saints

Would rather Maguire, would give our second round pick for him in a heart beat

The only gripe i have with L Ball is his kicking and ball use. He is an excellent worker when the team is not in possesion and very accountable and great tackler and pressure applier.

Look at it this way if you put him and Nick Stevens in the same body you would have a VERY good footballer. Where Nick is bad Luke is good and Vice Versa.

Not really worth what the Saints will ask of him IMO.

Agree.

If we could, by a perceptive miracle manage to nab him from st kilda
i would just be rapt
he would be the daniel kerr of west coast, i would throw the roof at him, tough as nails, good skills, natural leader. He would block for judd and murphy and those likes of players, and just be another level headed experienced player that takes pressure of judd and simpson to lead
he would progress us to be contenders months earlier
if by some miracle luke ball allowed it. Go get him carlton!

If he didn't cost the world, both in picks and money, then yes. Would improve our side immensely by not just adding his won ability but providing space/grunt for others.

Seriously doubt it would ever happen though...

ball would be a great pick up. it would free up judd to play his prefered role. we could move gibbs onto the hbf and maybe murphy to hff. im all for us trading for good player from the 2000-2003 drafts because we draft so badly in this time.

im not to sure if we need maguire he is a 192cm kd and be already have austin (193), bower(192), jamison(193), thorton(192) and even waite (194). we need a kd that at least 195cm to play on guys like tippett (201), hale(201) and J.brown (195). we need a monster. what we do need in our defence is a hbf and a back pocket with pace, good skills and hardness.

NO, NO, NO, NO.......
the reason why he is not in the saints best 22 is due to the fact his body is broken down and cant endour the rigiors of consecutive AFL games anymore, i would throw a bone at maguire, but not the world, securing another key forward is our main objective
