Danger & Co did a fantastic job of recruiting Bowes to the club. The way D'orazio described the pitches and $$ from the Hawks and Bombers made it seem like we were coming from a ways back. Danger & Stewart sold him on the club, it's history and his place in it should he come. Great stuff.

Also very impressed with Bowes first outing today. Looked fantastic.

How about the way that flog D'orazio then called Dodo and the boofhead from Hawthorn all sulky and was like "Geelong printed out some text messages from June, wahhh".

Just watched it.
Question is… How do I get that 90 minutes back of my life.
what a complete waste of time.
utter rubbish tbh.

Agreed, thought it'd be more Geelong based given that Instagram post. Just a bunch of player agents jerking each other off.

These player agents or whatever they are have to be the most obnoxious, unlikeable flogs on the face of the planet.

That said, I did enjoy the very brief moment where we saw Bowes pick the Cats. His agent seemed p*ssy about his choice. The fact Mackie / Danger printed out texts saying how much they liked Bowes as a player seems somehow both dumb and clever and it worked. Hilarious.

Bowes's partner seems lovely. Nice to see Danger chatting to her during the tour. The club getting around the partners is just one reason why our culture is elite, so I have no doubt she'll make friends quickly down in Geelong.

This doco sucked though.

Yeah, spot on. I wonder why his manager seemed annoyed he picked us? Does he hate Geelong? Or was it a case that the Hawks had clearly offered more and he stood to gain more comission if he chose them?

What I found most bizarre was how uncomfortable the manager was in informing the Hawks and Bombers they were unsuccessful. You could see his facial expression and body language and he was really nervous and uncomfortable. Managers have to do this all the time, it shocked me how uncomfortable he was having those essential, difficult coversations - because that would be a regular part of his job. Clubs miss out on players all the time, it's just the way it goes. That's the business and they all know that.

The former. Other clubs would have offered bowes more $ than us (to get pick 7) and therefore manager would have got a better commission.

just like buying a house, the agent would have a private word with the bidders and basically tell them how much to get over the line, he obviously had similar dialogue with bombers and hawks but had to go back on what he said

It was so immature. Being worried about telling two list managers they were unsuccessful in bidding for his player??

Bowes doesn't owe them anything, they were competing for his service and wanted pick 7, they can be disappointed but it was just weird that Bowes manager was all stressed about it.

You don't even owe them an explanation but if you felt obliged, say exactly what Bowes said "he felt Geelong had his best interests at heart" (which is probably accurate) catch ya later.

Likely lacking the context of him buttering them up behind the scenes saying he would definitely get the deal done for them if they offered $xyz. He mentions in the doco that Bowes wasn't even swayed by the difference in dollars.

My thoughts exactly. Maybe he's good mates with them and couldn't separate the personal and professional elements?

He does seem like a bloke that likes the be everyone's best mate and a people pleaser. The way he speaks to some of his players, over the top to friendly I thought.

Sometimes you just need to be more professional in that role

I think you're right. He needs to learn that you can be mates with people and still just be professional and honest, they will respect you more. If I was Jack Bowes watching that, I wouldve felt a bit odd.

In the first interactions they showed with Hopper, he was deadset keen to come to Geelong. Then the next we heard about it, he was signing with Richmond. We know Richmond offered him more money, and I think that's the other side of managers they didn't show. They made out they were all about their clients, but if you get paid on a commission basis, it's in your best interest to have your client get the biggest contract possible. The more money they get, the more the manager gets. That's why D'Orazio was bummed Jack chose Geelong above Hawthorn's substantial offer. D'Orazio was thinking about his income, not what Jack wanted.

But I agree, it was not a very good show and I just found these men a bunch of sleazebags mostly.

i think they said mackie increased the monetary offer to compete?

According to what ive seen that was the hawks increasing their $ offer to compete with essendon. Bowes picked us even though we offered less $ than both of them.
