I don't see how it's the same old predictable shit... Chad kicked 9 goals in 5 quarters in 2 SANFL trials to Salter's 6. On form, you'd go Chad, plus he left the 3 debutants in from last week.

Hmm....Chad's 32, had 3 years worth of injury issues, had an epidural during the week and couldn't hit a barn with a high powered rifle.

Salter's 23, fit, a dead eye dick from anywhere within about 60 metres and got a truckload more mongrel ( and ability to back it up ) than Chad.

Yeah, I reckon Chad's the better option given the long term focus

Let's be +ve though. No Motlop. That's got to be good. Although Davenport for Hitchcock would have been a good move considering West Coast are his bunnies. Even if the only benefit might be the comedy value I get from my missus making comments about his ' Spandau Ballet ' hairdo.....

Irons, Pittard, and O'Shea earnt their chances last week. Salter did not.
Salter had a few games late last year and failed to inspire. We do not need another Damon White who scores 6+ in the SANFL and can't get his hands on the ball in the AFL. On top of which Salter is not even performing well in the SANFL.

As a defender. His one game where he spent anything resembling a significant amount of time forward was against Richmond at home in a cyclone.

You're almost on the money here but allow me to fill in the gaps...

We don't need another Damon White played out of position leaving no doubts as to why he can't get his hands on the ball in the AFL...

Why do our coaching staff continually take our best tall forward options and try to metamorphisise them into running half back flankers? I really fear for John Butcher's development, given our track record with tall forwards.

May i ask why Surjan hasnt featured at all this season? Always rated him as a small defender. Is he injured? Or is it just a case of younger players coming in and taking his spot?
Injured. Late last season. A long way from being replaced, he is a key player when available. Our version of Hurn, except less liable to suspension.

What do you guy think of Hitchcock, thought he was terrible last week....
It was a different sort of terrible. Subbed on, fought ferociously. Didn't measure up in strength or awareness but a good learning experience. Smart, motivated kid and will shine this week.

Worst possible choice for sub... ever !!

sub should be KPP or someone versatile enough to play multiple roles ... not a one dimensional forward pocket. How many weeks will it take for Primus to work this out?

Shocking call. You can't just use the sub as a 'ooh, in the off-chance a tall player gets injured this guy can play there' guy, that's negative coaching. A guy like Hitchcock can come on and show some energy and cause massive problems for the opposition. Impact players as substitutes FTW!

*didn't notice the shit-stirring of gopower, as it was too subtle :p

The definitive comment on Chad and should pop up automatically every time someone suggests putting him in the team. I am amazed he has earnt his spot, but earnt it he must have and that deserves respect. After 8 previous team selections Matty has not given a senior player an unearnt spot yet so I'll wear it.

I hope you at least got Salter's age right. If we want ineffective mongrel why don't we redraft Shattock?

Too true, though I don't think even Choco would have selected Mots this week.

Not a bad point. We could forget Davenport is on our list.

Tell Betty its the New Romantic look

Yeah, I think its pretty clear the club will never play Salter forward, and he's a maybe a depth defender for us

Very sad, was never given a chance

I'd like to think its a ploy for this week, but I don't think Primus will do that with his "earn respect" thing

I hope he kicks 50 at his new club. I am sure other clubs are licking their lips at the prospect of a trade.

Small Warrior, when does his contract expire. I'd love him to be a free agent signing for another club- IF he doesnt get a game for us.

IF so We'd have deserve it on this one, sheer arrogance on our behalf

Primus has already proven to be a coach that focusses on structure - he is going to attempt to replace like for like whenever possible.

One glaring weakness in our squad has alread been exposed at the selection table this week, if indeed Primus is intent on playing the kids.

We needed to replace Schulz at full forward and the next best option was Chad, a bloke who has probably one season left in his body and who hasn't played key forward for years.

Sadly I think this speaks volume for the predicament we are currently in.

Correct me if I'm wrong - but weren't Spandau Ballet part of the ' New Romantics ' era of the late 70s early 80s? :D

I've seen it posted earlier in the thread about Chad being a ploy to bring Nick in as a late inclusion. I'd like to think so but I doubt it. But look on the bright side, there's a positive. There's a possibility Chad will have about as much impact as an ashtray on a motorcycle, similarly there's the possibility Nick will boot a bagful against South.

Going to a new club and booting tons of goals against us is a double edged sword though. Great for the kid's morale but a sour feeling in the belly having had a few good chats with him and having a good idea of what sort of bloke he is.

What about we trade him also to GWS for a flanker, then we would have 2 new flankers next year....you can never have enough of them ya know:thumbsu:
P.S I wonder if they come with Wafers!

So anyone have any word on Hartlett? Is he out becuase the knock he got last week for West? Were they concerened he didn't get enough 'match time' before coming off injured? If that's the case I think he'd still be a better sub than Hitchcock. Something seems to be going on that we don't know about.

PR on 5CC said HH was sent back to SANFL for match time and as he only played one quarter he is at the same point as last week , ie needs more match time.

PR also said that Hitch or Irons likely sub this week. Also said club's thoughta are one player as sub for 2 weeks only (if he only got a quarter and was not subbed-in for injury, like last week) then he would need SANFL or into the 21 for an AFL game?

Salts named at CHB for Eagles!

Mark Williams can have him, Motlop, Matthew Westhoff, we'd get pick 15 from them. We're pretty good in the drafting/ trading business you know

I'm very pleased to see last weeks debutants all retain their spots in the side. Also, why the panic if Primus has committed to playing a fit side given some of our regulars are running fitness back through the twos?

This was always going to happen and I have no issue with that selected side.

Couldn't have said it better myself

Cut you whinging port fans this ain't the same old

Last week's emergencies were Pettigrew ( traveled to cover for Carlile) Chad and Banner. Does this mean Salter is realistically one step closer to getting a call up. Who is he a cover for - a backman or a forward??

You would think Ebo and Hartlett are in next week if hey get thru SANFL games without any worries.

Happened to read a bit of yesterday's paper and saw the Capel article on Ebert. First four words: "Port Adelaide's forgotten forward...". He's only missed 2 premiership matches!!

Purely fitness. Don't forget how fragile he is, taking the aggressive approach didn't work in the past.

If Chad kicks straight then there is absolutely no one with half a brain that could pick Salter ahead of him. Chad is the superior player at this stage of there careers, there is just no doubt about it if you take off your Salter coloured glasses.

The issue is totally will Chad kick straight?

He kicks 1.5 and it's better to have Salter in there kicking 2.0. However it appears Chad's kicking has been pretty good at Glenelg so if he can keep that up then he deserves the shot.

If Salter was the future, which he isn't anymore (he's missed his critical development years unfortunately thanks to Choco), then he should've been picked but he isn't. Salter is now a depth player, and so is Chad, so if you are choosing between depth players you pick the best one and Chad is it.

Ultimately we should be picking Butcher but he isn't ready and we need to leave him at the Maggies to continue improving.

We're really in a no mans land aren't we.
