Yeha cost its not like Islam is a religion of peace? Just lets sit back and let them plot and kill. Is that you Ms Hanson Young?
Like with the other terror raids which turn out to be farcicals

Wait til the facts before accusing of terrorist acts

Did they just say they have asked to speak to Abbott live on air? This is basically an ultimatum, give us what we want or we kill hostages, blood is on your hands etc etc. Abbott speaking to them will kill someone for sure. Won't happen.

LOL at the expert on Sky News saying that the flag in the window is "associated with faith, as opposed to political violence"

Because of course those are two completely separate things.

Every media outlet should abandon coverage.

This is irresponsible.

It's news? Should the media not have reported September 11? Particularly for those of us with friends/family in that area, we need to know.

I dread the rise of Islamaphobia that will presumably follow this (and has already clearly begun) along with any cynical exploitation, but I think either side ("this is clearly the government's doing to get through their laws"; "clearly this is a sign that all Muslims are evil and have to go") should be condemned.

Ant_ is being kind by simply deleting posts taking advantage of quite a serious situation to further racist and political rants.

I won't be so kind. Future posts of this nature will earn you a thread ban - you've been warned - stick to the topic at hand and stop trying to derail the thread to push your personal agendas.

The terrorism expert on Channel 7 said that one of the reasons this is being done is for the publicity.

Channel 7 of course are conducting continuing coverage.

The media in this country is just so compliant.
40 years ago after a failed seige in lebenon alot of time and money was invested in a universal strategy denying these people what they want. Even the Russians worked with our military and governments in a concerted effort. The main thing these people want is the publicity, to create as much kaos. The main strategy to deal was to keep these incidents as quiet as possible. Not only does it rob them of what they want, it also stops them inspiring any future nutters to do the same thing. Another strategy was send in the SAS the moment they hurt someone.

Unfortunately, 40 years on from this universal strategy to deal with terrorists hostage incidents, Australia haven't adopted it. its as if we want to give them what they want.

Bear in mind that the warped ideals of a minority of idiots are not representative of Islam as a whole. Fingers crossed this is resolved peacefully.

Crap like this only fuels bigots.

This is the act of a few cowards, not the religion of Islam.

Yes it is.

And to all the apologists for Islam on this forum, I hope today wakes you up to the nightmare in our midst.
It's a nightmare indeed but these are the actions of a sick and cowardly few.

I'm not religious by the way.

While I agree with you, we cannot go all 'no true Scotsman' the other way and pretend that they have zero connection to Islam (not saying that you are doing that).

One can only hope that events like this make the more reasonable Islamic people question their faith.

These people don't deserve any notoriety for their cowardly actions, a shame they are likely to get it.

It's not a price we can afford to pay in the name of tolerance.

Is it too early to put forward the theory of this being an inside job, designed to help push ASIO's new "anti terror" powers onto the Australian people?

Not saying it is, just wondering...

mate... that is ridiculous

Anti terror laws are being introduced to stop people like this.

The Greek, Italian, Vietnamese, Poles, Czech all put their head down and a.sses up to make this a better country.

There has/is only one group who come here and dont fit in. their culture and religion doesn't work here.

Go home.
The local supermarket here opens from 5.30 am to 8.30 pm. Seven days a week.

Been run by the same family for the past 20 plus years. I know them well.

Oh, and they are muslims.

So take your bigotry and ignorance and stick it you know where.

There has to come a time when something isn't considered a false flag operation. It's pretty difficult to comprehend governments all over the world pulling off false flags in order to push anti-terror laws to combat terrorists who don't exist.

One can only hope any bogan would-be 'heroes' would bear this in mind. Sadly I don't expect reprisals to even be directed in the right direction.

Why should there be any reprisals against the community? Let the law handle those who break it.

Do they turn a blind eye when they find out sections of their faith are practising extreme ideals?

If they do, they are as bad as those extremists.
