Sierakowski now a Roo!

We have a half back surplus now, but what happens in a couple of years when Guerra retires? I like Cheney in that spot but Sierakowski is a better kick and better overhead than him.

I see where you're coming from HP. The problem is we HAD to make a call on Sierakowski. It was either delist or upgrade to the senior list. I don't think it would have been fair to Will to upgrade him to the senior list, only for him to rot away at Box Hill for a few years until Guerra retires or we had 3 or 4 injuries to our HBF'ers who were ahead of Sirra.

Poor kid, he's about to become a worse player than he was. Players who go from Hawks to Roos get worse (Hay, Piccioane, J Rawlings ultimately. Thompson possibly broke even), while Roos who come here get better (Gibbo, Hale).

This is true but we do have a good track record with Box Hill players though;)

Sorry to intrude on your Board but what part of the Sierkowski family is he from. He is not the son of Brian who lives in Perth and had a son that played for St Kilda and the Eagles

Well it's awful trading because he was good enough to become part of the next generation in our backline. He's 21 and has great skills by foot and overhead, would fit right in to our midfield or defence in the next few years.

Meanwhile Riley Milne is safe . . . how's that, Riley Milne stays and Sierakowski goes. Yeah, nice trading again, Hawks. Well done

Safe to say that only in a parallel universe would Riley Milne be safe from the chop.

Had potential, but it was him or whitecross, and experience comes first
What?

Whitecross had nothing to do with it.

He was behind a number players, and took the opportunity and 2yr deal elsewhere.

Look out for the name Langford next year he is similar type of player with no fear written into his heart.
Exactly my thoughts.

If anyone was putting pressure on Sirra's spot going forward, it's Langford.

Apparently we were after Matt Campbell. So if that is the case then why didn't we go for a straight swap??????????

Not a bad player Sierakowski, Its good to see other former hawks doing well ( Josh kennedy for example) and I hope Siera does the same.

And your correct on Langford. He is a jet and is gonna be next years Savage I think........

Sirra had a great start to the year and seemed to fall away, dunno if he got injured. At AFL level I could see him holding down a wing, dunno what his tank is like.

As a third year rookie he was not bashing the door down to get upgraded. If Sirra is Pick 58, Dave Mirra should go early second round.

a) why would he want to wait to be a part of the next generation at Hawthorn, when he could be a part of this generation at another club?

b) We have Ladson, Gibson, Ellis, Burgoyne, Birchall, Guerra, Murphy, Stratton, Cheney and Langford that can all play a similar role to him.

c) who's to say Milne won't be delisted?

d) who says opposition teams wanted to trade for Milne?

Mate you don't keep a HBF on a list who won't sniff a game before the age of 24. Even then from the limited times i have seen him i rate him as a 30% chance tops of becoming a good league footballer.

Win, Win for everyone involved.

He was going to be delisted due to, as many posters have said, surplus of his position but we were able to get a draft pick for that soon-to-be delistee. North Melbourne got a player they were after without losing a high draft pick.

As for the poster who suggested a straight swap for Matt Campbell, Hawthorn (with their quality late drafting ability) will get a better player with #58.

Lol:p

Anyways happy enough with the Siera trade, won't be much quality around at #58 no matter how good "your quality late drafting ability" is.

Pick 58 in 2010 was Podsiadly off the rookie list. Then there was Puopolo at 66 and Duigan at 70. Not much around huh? Let's wait and see.

Just because North drafts crap, doesn't mean everyone else does.

I don't know why people are getting angry about this trade. I liked Siera, but he is well behind Whitecross, Puopolo, Ellis, Suckling, Guerra, Smith and Cheney as players that can play small-mid defensive runner.

He should go okay at North. He's a reliable kick, good runner and relatively clever player. My one knock on him is that he is a touch soft. Not a snowflake, but there are question marks there.

Can someone tell me a bit about his weaknesses?

Cheers.
If I was to be harsh, these would be the three:
- Very one-sided. He has a reliable left boot but the tends to struggle on the right, and does that thing left footers tend to do when they should use their right but try to square the ball up on the outside of their left.

- A touch soft. He's not as soft as a Nathan Lonie type, but he certainly isn't the type to throw himself into contests like some of his competition at Hawthorn.

- What his his position? He plays as a running HBF/wing at Box Hill but his defensive skills are not necessarily a strength. He manages to play the QB role at times at Box Hill which suits him, but he wouldn't have that luxury at AFL level.

He's not soft.
