If the River Pigs make 8th they should be proud of themselves. Olinda are a quality unit, and barring a shocking day for a GF, were well clear as the best side in 2nd Divvie. Its a big step up and to back YG into finals........ Warburton smashed second div and couldn't make an impression when they came back up.

Agree there Enrico but i think the standard of first division has plateaued whilst the standard of second division is slowly improving, that's just going off results though as i don't get to watch as much footy as i would like.

Spot on. The standard of second division has improved a lot over the last few years especially up the top end of the ladder.

LOL Only people involved in Second Division believe that. The bottom teams last season in first division would of made finals in second div. If anything the standard has gone backwards.

Based on actually watching games there is no doubt that 2nd Division in 2010 was stronger than any of the prior 4 years. My only view of 1st Division was in finals and there is also no doubt that there is a big gap between top Div 1 and top Div 2. I think Olinda of 2009 may have been a little better than YG of 2010 and they needed to top up to make Div 1 finals. YG will also need to add 4-6 Div 1 standard players to push for finals They won't lose many (if any) this year and had only 2 or 3 players over 30, so their current list can still improve.

YG have had good numbers at training and this has included some quality new players, but I don't think any have signed as yet.

That is probably the most stupid post I have ever read. Monbulk and Warby Ones did not even make finals in Div 1!!! I have no doubt they may do ok against the bottom sides but not against YG, Seville, Junction or Kinglake!

Id say that shows the depth in First Division that Monbulk didnt make finals. The standard of First Div Reserves finals was at least the equal if not better to Second Division. A lot of players running around in the reserves would get some good coin from Second Division Clubs.

Have to agree Finger, Monnies 2s had some handy 1st divvy senior players running around in the GF, and 4 or 5 solid 2s players missed out, and i reckon Warby weren't far behind either, but its a topic which has no answer or proof either way

Take the rose coloured glasses off clarkey. Just the style of play from the first division sides would make them more than competeitive. Lets be honest a lot of the senior players running around in 2nd division are First Division twos players that have left for coin.

So if Yarra twos beat any of the mentioned sides - Olinda - Warby or Monbulk surely your argument looks ridiculous or what if ones beat these sides and twos don't- does this mean your mentioned sides stack their twos? Dont agree with your statement about Reserves beating 2nd divy senior teams, however your above point does have some merit. It is amazing how often div 2 teams comment on your average div 1 player and dont rate them. However when the same player drops down to div 2 they are all of a sudden a gun!

Oh well here some stats for ya: 11 out of Monbulk 22 that played in the Ressies flag this year played more than 3 games in the seniors (thats off the head)
9 Ressies players have played in at least 1 1st Div Seniors GF Wins 13yrs - They maybe past it... Some definitely are!
This is what I do know from watching, playing & coaching Seniors & Ressies over the last 10 yrs. Yrs 05-09 The Ressies was super strong in 1st Divi @ the top end - not so sure this year. (This also goes for the Seniors) This year the comp was more even but between 05-09 – Upwey, Healesville, & Monny, Warby & Mt Eve (at times) were miles ahead. These teams especially the top 2 from each of those seasons would have beaten sides in the bottom half of the Seniors Comp in 1st Div of those yrs – no question. That’s what makes Olinda’s rise even more impressive. As I clearly remember watching games where both their sides were smashed by us & Upwey. My gut feel is Olinda’s 2nds now would have pushed those sides during that period.
Whether that’s good enough to beat the Top Sides from Divi 2 I’m not sure, as I think Top team or 2 in Divi 2 by year end are better than the bottom 2 in Divi 1.

Still dont know who you play for finger but your club must have loads of numbers. I would think that a lot of the old boys would love to give it away however when the middle of winter comes around and the numbers drop right off, the names you have mentioned would be the first called to help out. With out a lot of the old boys playing I am sure 80% of the clubs Ressies would play short!
