I do not know where you are getting info on the draft, there appeared to be none picked up from "nowhere" - maybethe document I looked at is wrong, but of all the picks they came from TAC cup, the WAFL and SANFL, TFL etc, I did not see one from a suburban league. Even the VFL only had 1

Isaac Smith was playing with Redan in Ballarat Footy League until mid year. Ended up playing in a VFL premiership after 8 games and being in best players.Drafted to Hawthorn first round.
I would say that is coming from "nowhere".

That may be the "one" Sportguru was talking about.
Still only one, though.

Redan isn't "nowhere"! They are one of the most successful Major Country League Clubs of recent history.

He has previously coached Montmorency Under 19’s to five consecutive finals appearances including a premiership, Diamond Creek Under 19’s, Panton Hill Seniors and was the Diamond Valley Football League Under 19’s Representative Coach in 2004. Ian’s vast and successful experience coaching Under 19’s football will be an asset to the club’s young and developing list of players.

cheers for that!

May be some kudos for playing there, but then is it that far removed from playing with a top local team such as Woori or Upwey? Why send a talent just one step up a long ladder?
Troutman is real quality and should try VFL first.
(Selfishly hope he stays with the Bloods, tho.)

If he plays at Woori or Upwey he is only going to be playing around 6 - 8 competitive games a year, the other 12 - 14 games you are queuing up with the rest of the team to get a kick in a one sided blow out, at least at EFL (Div 1) you are playing in more competitive games week in week out.
As for the VFL, Casey Scorpions came knocking last year in the YV, did they not come this year?? and if not I would wonder why not considering Riseley and Cleven both played ones at some stage. Get the kid to roll up and have a crack, surely someone within the YV can make a call to Casey the kids that made it last season wouldn't have found their own way over! So someone at league level must have the contact

Sorry Cheese Head. Didn't explain myself too clearly.
I was referring to the kudos or self-worth the player might feel at a top YVMDFL club.
I guess it would be similar to playing Div 1 EFL, but I take your point about the quality games thingo.
Still think EFL is a sideways step.

Ironically, the EFL forum is full of guys bleating about how insane the 'meat market' has gone in their league. They seem to have little idea that kids can only put themselves on the market if the clubs create the market in the first place!
Victims of their own ambitions, methinks.

Maybe off the pace of Woori Upwey and Gembrook last season but would still would have accounted for Yarra Glen and Yarra Junction. Silvan would have been competitive against Yarra Glen.

Finger - recently you got stuck into the older blokes playing Reserves at Monbulk, Warby etc but you promote Silvan and Wandin who also have several older blokes helping out in the Seniors. Are they too preventing younger players from getting games or are they just doing the Aussie thing and helping our their home club?

Well said 1Rumour!
- Warby always seem to be talking to players pre season. That is until they head up there and realise they drive past another 6 clubs before they get there!
- Every team has over 50 blokes on the track (Even Powelltown)
- Wandin are in talks with EFL players who stuggle to find room on their postage stamp ground
- Woori are losing all their players. The names that are always thrown up are King and Sharp. Two guys that have spent nearly their whole lives playing for the club. Then Sharp comes out has a blinder and takes out another League B & F
Sneddon(woori) training with another club

you realy dnt think yg will make any impact on divvy1 next yeah do you?
hopefully they do well, would be great to see.

Bing Bang, Finger's opinion means little - if you read through his posts he rips into nearly every club with out much clarity.
Yarra Glen's coach Deano is well aware of the step up and I am sure during 2011 Finger will have moved onto bagging other clubs. Yarra Glen would not of entered Div 1 if they thought they would be straight back down. Again I am tipping they will make finals!

They would want to recruit a heap of players then. The side that won the Grand Final with the little depth Yarra Glen has would struggle to be competitive let alone make finals.

Looking at the top 5 in both FL and YVMDFL, they look very similar in Wins and losses and in Points for and against, so in Div 1 EFL there must also be a number of one sided games

so does it mean that when YGs seconds make the GF and u18s featuring also in finals, you have no depth? silly comment, not that disimular from olinda in 2009 and im tipping they to will have a greater impact on div1 in 2011

Sports Guru I think the bottom 5 YV and bottom 7 EFL tell the true story, any way I am not in a this comp is a better comp than that comp argument. I still believe if Troutman was to go he would be involved in more competitive games at the EFL, but the real story is someone from the YV needs to talk to Casey (if the kid wants to play higher) or someone should take him over and introduce him to Gotchy. There are currently around 80 training if you look at the Casey website and from what I have been told and read Troutman could make the grade, don't let being shy or not invited stop him. If you have a dream you should chase it regardless of hurdles.

Olinda werent a bad side when they got relegated. They would have won more games first divy than any other relegated side the year they went down. They also have had fantastic unders for the best part of ten years. You cant seriously compare the depth of both clubs. Yarra Glens depth ends at about player 10 in the Seniors.

Olinda won 1 game in 2008, so I think that makes them a pretty ordinary team at that time. However, they have done pretty well with their juniors which should stand them in good stead for some time to come.

I see that Silvan and South Belgrave play each other in round 1 next season; no coincidence there I'd say!

Maybe a claytons YVMDFL second divvy game;)

Sth Belgrave will be off to a flyer then.:thumbsu:
Since moving to the EFL Sth Belgrave seem to have gone from strength to strength, compare them to Belgrave who used to be the big brother and is now the poor relation in every way, hell even a long standing former president of Belgrave is now involved with Sth!! What's that say about the 2 leagues??
